This is Savings?

Wasn't Daley just bragging about a week ago about how smart the City was locking in salt prices at something like $40 a ton as opposed to what the 'burbs were paying nowadays (something on the order of $130 a ton)? Hell, with the purported half-a-million tons laying around, Chicago could sell some to the outlying municipalities for $100 a ton and put the difference toward the budget holes. So what's up with this?
  • City officials pulled 184 snow plows from Chicago streets at about noon today but said they are monitoring weather conditions in case they worsen. Officials also said they are keeping an eye on another storm system that could dump more snow on the area late Sunday.
We always thought that the layer of salt that eats away at our cars also served a purpose by being crushed into the blacktop - it started the melting process quicker than the plows could get out during a really bad ice storm. It was a good theory.

We have to say that the streets are about the worse we've seen them in decades. Not just the ice, but the obvious lack of maintenance and half-assed construction. Pot holes are in full bloom and the number of broken and leaking water mains or hydrants defies our efforts to count on the way to, from and during work. Years of chronic mismanagement at Streets and in crooked contracting is truly coming home to roost.

SCC,

the city can't sell the salt to the suburbs.

What it can do is sell the salt at $20 a ton to someone related to the Mayor.

That lucky relative then sells it to the suburbs at a substantial profit.

The relative of the mayor will of course use city pension funds to finance the salt purchase at say 1.25% percent annually.

In the 009th district today, we chased some little jagoffs tagging a garage and later we chased a banger with a gun. Unfortunately, everybody got away and me and my partner were big time pissed. Why they got away, I'll tell ya. The streets in 009 are a sheet of glass. We were sliding everywhere. We coudn't get any traction and we almost hit several parked cars needless to say we got stuck in an alley and had to rock ourselves out of a spot. WTF

You want to talk potholes. Come visit 433's beat. Alderman poop aint doing shit for the taxpayers. Drive down 130-131 Brainard, 130th Bridge to I-94, 128th Crandolet Tracks, Avenue O from 130th to 118th (landminds from last winter), a long list after that. What kind of hours does Ald Pope work 8am-9am then he's off the rest of the day. Why don't you do something about us having no police patrolling our neighborhood alderman poop?

RICHIE DOES IT AGAIN!!!!

Daley has created a new fee for homeowners. Since he intends to pull his salt trucks off the street as much as possible in order to conserve on both salt and drivers' overtime, there has been a run on salt at the home improvement stores by city residents. GREAT!

The streets were pretty bad Thursday, what happens if some kid gets creamed by a sliding car? Will shortshanks save any money after a multi-million dollar lawsuit. Why should a driver or an insurance company be liable for the cities failure to run a legitimate city.

There has to be some sort of negligence on the Shitty's part for not doing anything. The streets weren't even salted around the schools...all day or the next day.

I'm sure the reason that the city is not salting the side streets is because Daley did sell the salt and some how the money is missing! This is just the sequel to the "Hired Truck Scandal." When will the Feds list the indictments for this corruption scandal . . . and what catchy little name will they title this one?

As Attorney General designate of the United States, brother Barack has told me that the integrity of Chicago Mayor Richard M. Daley is above reproach.

Mayor Daley will be given unconditional and free reign "to conduct the business of local government" without Department of Justice oversight or interference.

Indeed, Mayor Daley will be Barack's ad hoc confidant on urban affairs.

Mr. Patrick Fitzgerald's replacement must pass muster with Mayor Daley.

The Mayor, President-elect Obama and I agree that our primary mission in Chicago will be to prosecute the racist, jackbooted facist police who continue to murder misunderstood African-American youth.

Maybe you should send the mayor more real estate taxes or move north near Daley's donors so you can get salt. Salt is bad for streets and bad for cars. Things are pretty bad when we can't even get the bad stuff on the streets.

I'm so fuckin sick of these "old timers" telling people to do no work. You know what, you came on in '91. You're not some dinosaur, you're a dog. Your mini-generation has done nothing to mentor the younger officers with less than 8 years. You cry and bitch and are a bunch of wanna-be "back in the day" story tellers.

You're the police, not some IOD coward. Don't write the city charge if you don't want, but DO patrol the motherland and keep the gang bangers ineligible to become future police. Locking people up is more fun.

But you're too scared of lawsuits? Please, it's just court time my brothers. In this economy, people need to go to jail.
In the words of a true mentor, J.M., "you have a life sentence one day at a time."
