Wait a Minute....

Spending money at an airport the City doesn't even operate anymore? How is this possible?
  • Chicago's Aviation Department could spend as much as $18.5 million more to keep runways clear of snow and ice at Midway and O'Hare this winter, due to the higher price of de-icing solution.

[...] Chicago was able to secure enough de-icer for both airports, but at a price three times higher than last year, according to Aviation Department spokeswoman Karen Pride. The fluid, potassium acetate, cost the city $3.81 a gallon last year -- compared with $11.49 a gallon this year.

Why isn't the airport consortium that purchased the operating rights to Midway supplying de-icer? Is this one of those things that lawyers stick in the contract to make it more attractive to the buyer? Kind of like those CTA bus shelters where no one but the JC Decaux company knew that they were going to be allowed to install a few hundred extra units, low-balled the competition then made out like bandits when it came time to sell advertising? Did the taxpayer just get screwed again?

Since Chicago has realized it has diverted all its money into the politicians pockets, salt and plowing now becomes a HUGE economic issue??? Unbelievable. No mention of gas and oil use in the past when gas was almost 5 bucks a gallon. Chicago has to plow and salt maybe six-ten times a year if that, and there is no money to do so? Unreal!

When do the taxpayers NOT get screwed by this city, county and state's various 'combine' connected administrations?

According to AL Gore, global warming will take care of these problems i.e. snow, ice etc. BHO will take care of the rest.

First of all, I don't think the new company is in control yet, also, the cost of de-icing fluid is up due to a strike in Canada, it should be down soon

It gets better SCC! Wait until the investigation is completed into how the female Lt (I have no clue), uses money designated from the TSA (Homeland security) budget is diverted into regular salary! Also how she uses the money to help her friends with special employment, even though they are not badged to enter restricted airport areas! Then she has swat work days when they want at the higher pay rate as a favor to Leo so swat can recieve overtime monies again from TSA budget! The circus faces change but the stage remains the same! Like my Brother President Elect Obmama stated "we need change we can believe in," was he also talking about the sold airport? TSA has launched an investigation as well as another news source coming soon to a screen near you!

Not to change subject, but does anyone have any word on our contract. What should we expect and when. How about the insurance issues.

Why is the city claiming to fork the bill for deicing when the airlines are responsible for it? It is up to each airline to deice a plane before takeoff. A pilot can even request deicing if the temps are above freezing if he/she so feels it is necessary. They are also responsible for the collection of the runoff in the alley where the planes are deiced.

Why is king Richie crying about an expense he doesn't pay? I smell a rat!

If the city IS paying for glycol you can only imagine what they are charging the airlines. We are getting screwed!

I believe that this topic is about de-icing runways/taxiways, not the aircraft.

If I am not mistaken, both airports are pretty much "self sufficient" as far as budget is concerned. The airlines foot the bill for almost everything.
