Death by a Thousand Cuts

  • Sun-Times Media Group intends to eliminate 12 suburban weeklies next week as part of its campaign to stem losses by eliminating up to $55 million in annual operating expenses, sources said Thursday.
  • Earnings reports released by the New York Times Company in October indicate that drastic measures will have to be taken over the next five months or the paper will default on some $400 million in debt. With more than $1 billion in debt already on the books, only $46 million in cash reserves as of October, and no clear way to tap into the capital markets (the company’s debt was recently reduced to junk status), the paper’s future doesn’t look good.
But the future of information looks better without the NYT.

These Liberal rags will get a bailout from Obamas Dems. Without them to control the minds and attitudes of these sheep, what would they have, the truth....

Well, they don't make buggy whips or button hooks anymore; add newspapers to it.

The age of killing trees is over. I get my news from SCC, with an occaisional peep at Fox News. (Love those blondes!) Their incessant arguing often leads me to turn off the sound, and watch the tape at the bottom.

I get my books via Sony E-books. All my old ones go to the local library for passing on.

Those self-important ragmongers may have to find honest work. The sooner the better.

The NYT and the Sun-Times both screwed up alienating conservatives.

The average Dummocrat gets their news from Comedy Central, People Magazine or some other celebrity rag.

I don't get it.
Y'all cheer when the newspapers and TV news lay off staff and close down, but you keep clamoring for investigative reporters and such.

Good Riddance, get rid of Mary Mitchell and Neil Steinberg, and maybe I'll subscribe again. But then I'm a paying customer... what would they want with me?

I'm skeptical of the report about the New York Times. They've continued paying a dividend on stock shares. They aren't in much danger.

Sorry guys, but NYT and WSJ are the last two in-depth newspapers left to report news. Furthermore, though one is considered "conservative" and the other "NY liberal", there coverage is remarkably similar in content.

The NYT is teriffic newspaper.Their international and national coverage is the best.Yes they have a liberal slant. However, with that knowledge one can still be well informed by reading it.Trust me they will not go out of business. They will adapt, like they already are with their online edition.

The only bad thing about the loss of the print newspapers is their ability to conduct investigative reporting. I just do not believe that you will see good investigtive reporting from the internet providers. The corruption in government will go on with no one to expose it.
