No Favoritism?
Mayor Daley said today he helped move one of Chicago’s oldest homeless shelters from a “decrepit” facility in Greektown to a state-of-the-art building in Lawndale to help the shelter — not longtime mayoral pal Michael Marchese.
Although the deal cost Chicago taxpayers at least $13.5 million and paved the way for Marchese to build 212 luxury condominiums, Daley insisted there was “no favoritism whatsoever.”
That’s despite the fact that the city’s decision to funnel demolition funds to the Chicago Christian Industrial League excused Marchese from a city requirement to set aside 20 percent of the units for affordable housing.
Another $13.5 million given away and we still don't have a contract for a year and a half. Isn't this the same Marchese who bought the old CTA land in Lincoln Park for $1 after the City cleaned up all the old fuel oil contamination to the tune of $6 million? Saved Marchese a bunch of EPA work there, but we're sure that wasn't favoritism either.

...which are exactly what is needed in a housing crash/depression. The more expensive they are, the funnier they look dark and empty. Granite everything, web-enabled titanium refrigerators, heated towel bars in the two-story bathrooms...bring it on! Trees are starting to grow up through some of these half-finished, unsalable projects.
Ask Neumann Homes. Oops...they're already gone. Customers with front doors seven feet off the ground because the tradesmen picked up their tools and went home right at that point -- no stairs for the likes of you!
Ask Zitella, if they're still around tomorrow morning.
Maybe Marchese will lose it all and take himself on a "last ride" out to the forest preserves like real estate speculator Steve Good just did.

I am a police officer and have worked with recovering alcoholics for many years . I did a lot of work in the old Halsted street "shit hole". I believe I helped people. This screw up hurts me because you don't need a multi million-dollar facility to help people. It's talking, listening, one on one, not a "green" facility. Nothing is being said about the loss to the community. Is Marchese going to lend his time to these people?
OK, you have unsellable real estate, but when the Charity goes broke and disappears you will lose another worthwhile Chicago institution over corruption and money.
Latest news is that the CHICAGO CHRISTIAN INDUSTRIAL LEAGUE cannot afford to keep their fancy new homeless shelter open.
WHY?
They hired Patti Blagojevich and her firm as fund raisers, (or is it fund raiders) and they didn't raise very much.
Maybe there were some of her calls recorded.

This is a glaring example as to how things work in Chicago and Illinois, to the detriment and at the expense of the average citizen. It's got it all: a well connected non-profit religious organization, favored friends and developers as well as the wife of Blago. (Reportedly, Patti 'Bleepin' Blago, got her job with the Chicago Christian Industrial League thru a business partner of Roland 'Tombstone' Burris, who is on the CCIL Board of Directors.) It's unbelievable, outrageous and unfortunately never ending and it's all 'on the back' of the taxpayer. This way of doing business, coupled with our wasteful, over sized, bloated City, County and State bureaucracies , is why 'it is what it is'! Boy, do the 'people' need to wake up!
What's the address of this new shelter? The homeless population in 016, 017, and 025 need a place to go. Please let us help our homeless Polish.
The new facility is only functioning at 50% capacity. Why didn't the Chrisitian Industrial League build two smaller facilities in two of the neediest neighborhoods?
Did anyone do a real needs assessment to look at how to effectively use the funding? Obviously a pure political deal.
And hiring Patti B as a development director to bring in grant money? Does she have grant writing experience? A degree in not for profit business administration?
What in the world was the Christian Industrial League Board of Directors thinking? Gambling the future of a not for profit social service agency by dealing with shady politicians and their minions?
Shouldn't the Attorney General and the Feds be looking into this?

Coppers sell themselves rather cheaply. Years ago in the 013th District it was common knowledge that the management of Marchese's Como Inn preferred not to see uniformed Chicago Police officers dining inside the retaurant. That was understandable. After all, most Italians cannot go beyond their first cousins before encountering some outfit neanderthal from Grand Ave, and therefore they all share the same visceral disdain for policemen. Anyway, if you parked in the alley and entered the kitchen through the rear you were treated to a generous take-out dinner (generally soup and bread) for free. And much of the deadWood from 013 did just that. Fuck them, and fuck the coppers lacking any self=respect who crawled on their bellys for the freebie. In contrast the little Polish restaurant at Division/ Ashland/ Milwaukee always greeted policemen warmly-and still does. And you'll never have to share space with the like's of Spina, Lombard, or Daley.

It was perfectly legit. there was no favoritism involved. It was all fair and above board. Shortshank said so. Right, and the check is in the mail.
I am praying for the day when Richard M. Daley gets indicted. I hope Fitzgerald is saving up for that one. I trust Fitzgerald will have so much in Daley's eventual indictment there will be no possible way for Daley to squirm out.
I will take off work so I can attend court on that one, just to see Shortshanks sitting in the accused seat, just once.

OT. Recently I responded to a call of a suspicious person in Mt. Greenwood neighborhood. Upon arrival a M/1 subject was moving into a house around midnight. Neighbors thought he was breaking in.
This individual ended up being a Detention Aid for the police department. This POS informed me that his baby's mama and his children are moving in. I just found out that the baby's mama is getting goverment welfare checks and obtained the house through section 8.
This is the kind of bullshit that has got to stop. You want to move into a neighborhood fine buy into it, but when you scam to move in there don't expect a warm and fuzzy reception. While the rest of us work it is assholes like this that pisses off the rest of us.
A city lock-up keeper makes over 50k a year plus benefits. His "Baby's Mama" is raking in probably about the same with her scam going on. This kind of government stealing needs to stop!!!!!!
And the charities president claims they now cant afford to operate the new facility, beacaus eits to high end, Great

That investigation lasted 3 years, so there is still hope....
its great that we have all these shelters in the city for those that need help. but the majority of our citys homeless refuse to better themselves and will soak the system their entire lives. you see so many of them refusing to live in the shelters because their are rules such as you cant come in high or drunk and you have a curfew and you have to take classes, etc. all you bums on the corners and window washers and beggers. if you can stand on your feet for 16 straight hours and take on the weather elements then you can get your lazy ass a job.

Not to worry. They are on it. But remember, they don't catch criminals and stop their crime spree like the police... thats only the point where the Feds start their investigation! They then allow the bad guys to victimize more people before their very eyes in order to strengthen their case. Maybe dozens more, or hundreds!
In three or four years though, they'll put the bad guys away. Or maybe, in the case of the mayors friends, NEVER! Something doesn't smell quite right between US Att Fitz and Daley... Does it really take this long to catch a dweeb?

Great rant about the Como Inn, dead on except the fact that Marchese didn't own it, Marchetti did and his kids took over when he died and ran the place into the ground.
Marchese owns the HIP mall in Norridge, a present to him from his father when he turned 21. He and Daley have been close since they were kids, have dinner with each other on a weekly basis. Marchese is business partners with recently indicted Cellini and is also tight with state rep Jimmy Deleo. Also the recepient of numerous sweethart deals given to him by the city.
Indict them all.

I am with you in PRAYER! We got blago who is going insane, now get daley he is insane! This just in looks like 35th street is looking into problems with certain c/o at midway, and labot and management affairs is not to happy! Why oh why is she sending memos to exempts asking to have them return their blue badges, but yet is giving leos swat team members cart blanche, getting them all blue badges and then allowing them to work all days off at time +1/2. No regards to any seniority! I am happy i am retired, but keep in contcat with friends at 35th street, is fop looking into this? Why not? Morale is the lowest there that is has ever been, but just another reflection on the entire dept. Keep promoting people with no people skills this is what you get in return! Garbage in=garbage out!
