008 Search Warrant (read ALL Updates)
From the comments. Search Warrant in the 008th District last night. Cops grabbed a bunch of guns and upwards of a kilo of dope. There might be little problem:
- An occupant of the condo started dropping her mother's name;
- mom might be on the lease papers;
- mom is a cop;
- mom's nickname is "The Bartender"
God help us.

A search warrant was executed last night at a home owned by a high-ranking Chicago police official, and drugs and weapons were seized, according to a police source and tax records.
The search was conducted about 10:15 p.m. on the Southwest Side.

Here's an interesting observation: If there were no SCC, would a man at the scene have been arrested? Would drugs and guns have been recovered? Would the incident have been covered up to protect the brass? I believe it would. But there are comments here every week from people talking about "professional courtesy", complaining when they don't get professional courtesy, and virtually no one bitches.

I'm sitting here reading all the comments and thinking of something witty to say but can't. I'm just so totally disgusted with the department. What a mess...What a complete mess. God help us.
"B" I know gets bashed alot, but she has always been good people with the CPD officers. If you have ever worked for "B" you would agree. It is messed up that she is being judged for what her adult daughter does. I know alot of coppers who have messed up kids. "B" did not try to interfere with the arrest, so she should not be condemned by us. You would not want it done to you!!!!!!!!!!

A man with a long arrest record was taken into custody after drugs and weapons were seized in an overnight raid at a Southwest Side condominium owned by a high-ranking police official.
Casey Crawford, 28, had been living at the condo in the 4500 block of West 56th Street with the daughter of Asst. Supt. Beatrice Cuello (lower left). But authorities said the daughter did not appear to be involved in any illegal activity. Cuello does not live at the condo.

Don't know about anyone else with kids, but I can absolutely guarantee that I would know if my daughter's boyfriend had a "long arrest record". And while I may not be able to force an end to the relationship (although watch me try), I can absolutely guarantee that said boyfriend would not be living under any roof that I own! One source I read said that Aunt Bea was under some delusion that this guy was legitimately "self-employed". Wow, I don't even know where to begin! If you can't keep the dope dealers from operating UNDER YOUR OWN ROOF, how can you be trusted with helping to lead an entire police department. What a damn joke!!!

Let’s be fair about this. HAVE THE FBI INVESTIGATE. If a problem involving a 14 year old can initiate federal scrutiny, why not have the FBI investigate a more serious allegation of criminal activity that may even involve a HIGH RANKING POLICE OFFICER, one capable of manipulating the Internal Affairs Division or anyone else investigating within the department. (investigators who can be lied too, unlike the FBI)
Consider this scenario:
You have a son or daughter. You try to help your son or daughter out and be the best parent you can be. You purchase a condo for your son or daughter and try to be a good parent. Your son or daughter lives in the condo.
You find out that the condo you purchased for your kid was hit with a search warrant and that your kid has been dating an apparent goof. Dope and guns are recovered. As a parent you are livid and pissed off. As a police officer, we would all be livid and embarrassed that our child subjected us to this.
This type of incident has happened before with the children of police officers and will continue to happen with children of police officers. We cannot control the lives and behaviors of our grown children. Shit happens, yet we continue to jump on the “blame bandwagon” just like the media and want to throw our own under the bus.
When I came on the job, we didn’t throw each other under the bus. We defended each other. Anybody who is a police officer, who thinks this shit is funny is a complete asshole and police hater. We are a family and should act like it. Everyone and their mother wants to see bad press on the police and thrive on it. Apparently, we have become just like the media and left wingers.
And by the way, when narcotics and guns are found in a building or premise that anybody owns, the Department and city must show “owner knowledge” to hold the owner of the premise accountable, so get your facts straight.

Here's an interesting observation: If there were no SCC, would a man at the scene have been arrested? Would drugs and guns have been recovered? Would the incident have been covered up to protect the brass? I believe it would. For all the complainers and naysayers ragging about this blog, its existence forces superior officers to play shit straight or risk exposure on this SIGNIFICANT website.

Possible but very unlikely. Going through that much work for a warrant and then hitting a house, possibly with SWAT, and finding all of that stuff leaves way too many onlookers to just walk out because it's someone's daughter.
This is sad.
But nothing will happen to the exempt and already it is all being put on the boyfriend.
A 14yo can play police and whos heads end up rolling... ours.
Officers being written up for missing name tags and other petty shit. Having to take a day and lose money.

We all try to raise our kids well, and then they grow up and make dumb choices. That's on them. While I'm no fan of Cuello, I wouldn't wish this mess on any of us. Just to clarify... The condo in question is in fact owned by the Assistant Superintendent, and the amount of narcotics was in the multiple kilo range.

She may not have been the greatest street officer, but she wasn't bad at that either.

Funny thing happened at the city council meeting while they were grilling weis. One alderbitch complained about rapes on the south side not getting the media coverage that the north side ones get (uhhh, not the police dept.s fault, talk to your media lackeys) and was very upset as to the lack of women present and even said "i dont see beatrice cuello here, where is she"......(insert cricket noises)...... LOL.
Based on the questions and comments at the hearing look for the P.O. and her sgt. to get nailed. South side alderf%@ks specifically stated that they do not want the D/C or the W/C held accountable (go figure) despite finding out that the door (which was probably functional) was just left open habitually and ignored by them as well. They are more concerned with the P.O. with 2 years on being duped by a young man in a uniform who was in an area where only police officers should be (unsecured station is not the P.O's fault!!) and the sgt. that had her on his log.
I will agree that there is a lot of blame that could be passed around. But the first head on the block should be the person who is in charge of the whole building for allowing her station to be constantly unsecured.
Oh and they also wanted to know the proper procedures for processing female prisoners. Seems a "certain" female prisoner was cuffed to a wall for 7 hours and was not put into lockup and they feel that was not right. Im sure they would be complaining if she was put back there too.
After watching one of these meetings, it is amazing that anything ever gets done in this city.
You guys better be nice to Aunt Bea. She just secured her spot as the new Supt. once J-Fed gets tossed on his ass! I hate this city...........

Asset forfeiture, there has to be prior complaints on the house with the owner not living there. Cuelo, I believe was promoted way beyond her abilities but thats on j-fed. She is a nice person. Ed is a level headed boss with lots of common sense and hes reasonably intelligent. The only thing I totally agree on in these posts is that Bea's kid should be just as culpable. If that had been my warrant, the whole house would have went. Blue shirt, white shirt it doesnt matter the kids a piece of shit with trash friends But is an adult that doesnt live with mom and dad. The one post brought up hamiltons kid in the popes. Crosset (father lieutenant) and Art (uncle sergeant) were ashamed of those kids. The one brother even had a conspircy going to kill his own brother over gang shit. They were grown and didnt live with the police relatives. Uncle and father were great coppers. My own kids dont live with me and most of the time I have no idea what they are up to. All you can do is hope you raised them the right way. Although my kids would be afraid I would kill them if they brought something like this to my door. Just try to put yourself in their shoes for a minute. I would suffer a lot if this happened to me because I would have a hard time looking the police in the eye, and I havent done anything. Worst case is I failed as a father.

It's ashame how this department has transformed into, it really is. Remember when you could count on your brothers and sisters in time of need? Now it seems that the city is so quick to throw you to the wolves and try to seperate the person in question. Anyone on this job with more that a few years on has been confronted with a situation where a friend or family member has done something precarious and you name was dropped or requested. We all came on this job to help, in some way, it's in our nature and job description. It's also a terrible thing to be judged by your peers, the very people that you have relied on for help. None of us, not one, are free of faults. The new generation is quick to point fingers and be void of responsibility. Harry Truman had a good point, "THE BUCK STOPS HERE".
That's what happens when Jody comes in and has no idea about people's history and has one interview with the person, then promotes them. To run a police dept and make promotions that high, you need to know everything about the person and where they come from.

Her duaghter has always hung out with bust outs and anyone working in 008 knows that. mommy has gotten her out of many a jam. That being said shouldnt mommy be held accountable for what goes on in HER building regarding HER duaghter. Makes you wonder what else little princess got away with because mommy helped. Has Aunt Bea been called down for a drug test, relieved of her police powers and sent to call back pending the investigation? Trust me, in the past officers who lent their cars to a relative and a street stop found dope in the car, the copper was put through some changes. So, IAD - are there different rules for bosses? There better not be, kids.
J Fed just announced on FOX 32 that it will take several more weeks for the investigation into the 14 year old to be finished!

Take the 4th dist., (naw, I don't want it), on nights, the temperature reaches 85-90 degrees and people open doors to let in cold air, in the summer, they turn off the air (to save shanks dough) and they have to open the doors for fresh air because it's steaming in there! And that ain't the only building doing that, there are dozens of them with the same problems. The District Managers, Commanders and Property Management Supervisors have no business in running a building, they are all political hacks!

He had two claims to fame - executed a guy at 26th and Cal holding a judge hostage and locked up Ed Kelly's kid and wouldn't back down. Easy man to work for? NO! Cuz he wouldn't cover for anybody, including his kids. At least you know where he stood.

All eyes will be on the Sup to see how he handles this especially after what he did to Cozzi. If he fails to take action I believe that what he witnessed last year in reduced activity and increased violence will seem minor compared to what he will see this year. I'm sure Bea spent time with her daughter thus time with her felon boyfriend. Against G.O.'s. To claim ignorance would be just as bad as knowing. She should step down and the Sup should be the one requestng it.

Im sure the tact guys wanted to lock her up, the daughter knows whats going on and im sure they both used that to there advantage when it came to there drug dealing i could see her driving around dropping off packs for her shithead boyfriend and using her mom as a scapegoat, but im sure some ball less boss thinking of his own future made the decision not to take her, we all know what happens to coppers careers when they fuck with the politically connected. two occupants in the abode 179 grms of cocaine multiple guns, and they made the determination she had no knowledge or involvement, sounds like a career save move. im sure the guys in the 008th wanted to do the right thing but some boss pulled the plug.
A credible department would dump or suspend Cuello.
Daughter was there and her names on the lease, period. Even if there was no cover up (yea right like what if there is a big foot), you have to take action.
Otherwise the rank and file will see it as elitism and Cuello will lose further credibility (if thats possible).
and the department will see its morale plunging further as the big shots once again take sides with the bosses over PO's doing their jobs. PO's have been suspended for less.

...or the fact the 8th district tact team actually did a search warrant....a positive one at that!! Now that in itself is newsworthy!!!!

He said he is not placing Cuello on leave pending the investigation.
"There's no reason to do that at this time," he said.
When asked whether Cuello could be held responsible as landlord of the building where drug activity was taking place, Weis said that he doesn't think Cuello has responsibility because of her daughter's boyfriend's actions.
I'll bet a dozen donuts nothing happens to Cuello. (1) she's a boss, (2) a female, (3) Mexican she has all 3 in her defense thay can't pick on her As for the gangbagger daughter she lives with a guy who has 4 guns, and dope but she never knew a thing about it. Well, here's the real problem. No one thinks that Cuello is involved, but those are not facts and should be investigated...at the very least. You can't have someone privy to sensitive Police/FBI information and their daughter is in a gang and supplying drugs and weapons to the gangs. The daughter and boyfriend both should have been arrested if they were both there. How can one say, while holding a bag, " I didn't know anything", when you're right there in the condo during the raid. It was very "suspicious" to say the least, that the daughter didn't get locked up and raises the question, was it because of the mother's position on the department. The investigation and trial will be compromised, once the dealer threatens to put out "police secrets" that he has heard over the dinner table. The gang has a direct pipeline to the top of the police department. Heaven help us!

Let me get this straight. The arrestee moved into the condo as soon as Dep. Sup. Cuello bought it and has lived there ever with Cuello's daughter since. But the department claims the arrestee is "an acquaintance" of a "relative" of the Dep. Sup.. Whenever there is an allegation against any normal department member there are months and months of "investigation" before the department has any comment. Yet, guns and dope are seized in a home owned by the highest ranking female on the department (not to mention a longtime L.A.P.A. and H.D.O. member) and Weis exonerates her and her daughter without so much as a second glance. He and Ms. Bond both putting as much illusionary distance between Cuello and the dope/guns as they can. They even state there's no need for any further investigation. CAN YOU SAY COVER-UP? My God, this is absurd. Seeing as how Dep. Sup. Cuello owns the dopehouse but allegedly has no knowledge or involvement in the dope and guns EXACTLY WHERE DOES SHE LIVE? Is the condo her phony Chicago address? Is she violating the residency requirement and keeping her dope dealing "acquaintance" and her "uninvolved" daughter there as a alibi address?
I will keep my private life unsullied, as an example to others. . . . .
What a cynical bunch most all of you are! Have you forgotten how manipulative a druggie can be? Frankly, this is a tragic story for the family. The mother and father are probably struggling to figure out what they feel and what they can do to help their daughter. And that daughter NEEDS help! And you want the superintendent to resign because of this? WHY? That makes no sense.
