On 10 May 2009, a couple of CPD's own are participating in the Police Unity Tour that takes place during Police Week. Thousands of officers from across the country converge on RFK stadium and ride as one to the final destination - the National Law Enforcement Officers Memorial.

This year, in honor of Rick Francis, Nate Taylor and Joe Airhart, Officers Pedro Solis and Jamie Stephen will be participating in the tide and are asking for your support. Each Officer must raise $1,500 and all donations are tax deductible.

Info on the ride can be found at PoliceUnityTour.org. Officers Solis and Stephen are available at odrage@aol.com.

Constable James Quinn's name is also being added to the National Law Enforcement Officer's Memorial this May. The CPD Awards Committee recently verified the city's 1854 decision that first determined Quinn's death was in the line of duty. This makes Quinn our first to fall and his star is being retired next month in the Superintendent's Honored Star Case along with these other three fallen heroes from 2008.... Are they riding in Quinn's memory as well?

SCC Brothers/Sisters,
Having attended the DC Memorial for almost 20 years as part of the Chicago Police contingent, I was always impressed by the personal sacrifice made by the members of the (National Law Enforcement 'UNITY TOUR')
These dedicated members have rode on bicycles from all over the nation to the DC Memorial during "Police Week" and have personally, through their efforts, raised MILLIONS of dollars on belalf of OUR National Memorial.
And 'now' we have two of-our-own from Chicago participating on behalf of of OUR CPD.
Please show them your support. ALL monies raised on behalf of their dedication and efforts go to support the National Memorial.
Speaking of the Memorial... we, in Chicago are honoring THREE (3) of our own in DC this year. Rick Francis,(019) Nate Taylor(Narcotics Sect) and Joe Airhart CPD/FBI Task Force)
Contact: 'Special Activities Section' of the CPD who will send interested members an Information Packet re: Chicago Police participation in Washington DC in 2009.
There is an upcoming CPD meeting on 26 Feb 09 regarding OUR 'Participation of Pride' in DC this year.
Contact either of the two listed members that are handling the hotel reservations listed in the Information Packet available by calling Special Activities.
If you are interested in joining us in DC this year to pay our respects, request an information packet for details.

So why are "we" in Chicago only honoring THREE when the National Memorial in Washington D.C. is honoring FOUR of CPD's finest. They are the three heroes mentioned above PLUS Constable James Quinn, EOW: 05-DEC-1853, the long forgotten, recently discovered, first fallen hero of the CPD. Remember, the CPD Awards Committee submitted FOUR names to the National Memorial to be honored during National Police Week this May - not THREE...Hope "we, in Chicago" honor all FOUR. Be safe on your ride and God Bless you for doing it!

ANSWER: The Keesing Bandit, but only if he's allowed to ride a bike without a seat over a course that consists exclusively of cobblestone roads.
