For anybody thinking raising taxes is acceptable please listen to the following rant. I've been on stateside military leave for over a year. (which means I don't get any pay from the city just my straight military pay, $12,000 less than my dept salary). I just finished my taxes and my return is $12.00. If the proposed tax increase was in effect I would owe money. How is it acceptable for someone who has worked full time since he was 17, served his country,(15 years and 1 war)and this city to owe the IRS more money at the end of the year while billions of dollars get handed out to people who refuse to work and spend their entire lives pumping out babies and living as irresponsibly as humanly possible?

Just wait
when people realize that last years economic stimulus will cut into their taxes there will be a loud outcry. It was considered a loan on this years taxes. The exception is those who do not pay taxes but got a stimulus check. They do not have to repay it. So, in summary, if you pay taxes and got a stimulus check you have to repay it. If you do not pay taxes and got a stimulus check you DO NOT HAVE TO REPAY it.

New Years Eve- I go downtown to a Hotel for an overnighter/New Years Eve Party and I see on-duty PO's working inside the Hotel.
Yesterday, I go to McCormick Place for the Harley Show/Swap Meet. In order to enter I get patted down by some off-duty kid with "Traffic Control" patch pinned over his CPD patch, but I picked up 2 leather Jackets for under 130 Cash! Well the place was crawling with 001 coppers. Look around more I see 6 from the ISP, 14 Blue shirts, 2 sgts, 2 Lts and the new Commander. What gives?
I cant wrap my mind on why the CPD is providing security to a Michigan Ave Hotel, and McCormick Place. Just dont get it.
Taxpayer revolt will be coming soon. They cant put tens of thousands of working people in jail.
A decent Super Bowl, not great, and another Week comes to an end in Little Moscow by the Lake.

If the pension fund is exhausted, the pension payments would have to come out of the city budget and not the funds. Expect your taxes to go sky high then. Even in a good economy.
Remember, the city is not fulfilling their requirement to fund the pension. For those reading and don't know what a pension is. A pension is like a "Christmas account" so when the holiday arrives, you have the money for Christmas presents and don't have to take it out of your checking account.

I just had my taxes done. We did NOT have to pay income tax on the stimulus check we got this summer. Like a federal tax refund, the stimulus check is not considered taxable income. You do have to pay state income tax on any state refund you got last year. How obscene is that? Illinois has a state income tax, many states don't. Illinois overtaxes your income all year long, and so you are entitled to a refund at the end of the year. The next year you must pay income tax on that refund, which was already taxed when you first earned it.

You have some interesting deductions in the body of your post, but remember that most of what you have in there are employee business expenses that are only deductible insofar as they exceed 2 percent of your adjusted gross income. Some of the other stuff you sugges will be ok if you don't get audited.

State tax refunds are taxable on your federal return only if you itemized in the previous year and deducted the entire amount of state tax withheld from your check. You are simply paying tax on the difference between what you deducted and what your actual tax was.

Single, no house , no kids. Standard deduction was 5450. I would have to have itemized deductions above that for it to make a difference. Since I've been down here all year I can't really say I spent anything on dept expenses and I don't have to buy much for the Army.

Should she have removed her FORCIBLY? Her mother told the media several times her daughter had offered to move her, but she didn't WANT to move.
And, like it or not, she sounded amazing at the Super Bowl. So did Springsteen, but that doesn't take away from Hudson.
