CPD in Oakland

The trip took almost two days and crossing the Continental Divide meant a bunch of snow in Wyoming. But the Chicago Police Department had a showing in Oakland to honor the four fallen Officers that was appreciated by California Law Enforcement to no end:

If any other pics of the trip are available, we'll see if we can get them up on this site and a few of our fellow blogger sites.

What happened in Oakland could have happened here. Never Forget those who have gone before you and made the ultimate sacrifice. No matter what anyone thinks about the department and its management, have your partner's back.

Rip.

This was the RIGHT thing to do, whoever authorized it was on the money. That horrible murderous mayhem in Oakland,California must be condemned and the valor of those officers remembered and saluted.

J-Fed got this one right, too bad he didn't get Cozzi or the other unjustly disciplined officers right.

God Bless those 4 murdered Oakland P.D. Officers!

Thank you for going to this funeral. These officers were heros. The scum who killed them should rot in hell and the protesters should also rot in helll. How could they allow those pieces of human garbage to protest. I listened to Michael Savage today. He was outraged. Is anyone else outraged???? I know I am.

Met these guys a few years ago at a police funeral in Wisconsin. If memory serves, the city allows them to take the vehicles, but all expenses are on the officers, including gas. If these guys read this, give us a heads up on how to get involved, or at least how to donate to curb your bills. This is a great thing your doing!

Thanks to the officers who sacrificed their time and made that long difficult drive. Thanks also to the bosses that had the sense to approve the trip. Actions speak louder than words, and once again I am proud to say I work for Chicago PD. Showing that type of support to a fellow department whose families lost so much, says so much. Actions speak much louder than words.

This trip was planned at the officers own expense. The city was not going to send anyone. Cmdr O'donnell heard about it and not only secured police vehicles for them, but also made the 31 hour drive (each way) with 6 other officers. other than cars/gas, all expenses being paid out of pocket. Class act by class boss and p.o's. God bless Oakland PD

A good move by the CPD. SRT is right on and we do not forget. It is a horrible situation when any policeman is murdered and the Oakland incident is especially hard to stop thinking about. Somewhat off topic and I hope its not out of line. We have learned Bill Ayers and Bernadine Dohrn are speaking at Naperville North High School 4/8/09and then a book signing at Anderson's book store in downtown Naperville at 7pm. They were invited to the school by a misguided teacher who is a part of their Hyde Park socialist circle and an inept school district who think they have something to offer high school students. Yes, even Napeville is screwed up. Many of us do not think two baffoons from Hyde Park who are founding members of a group who murdered over a dozen police officers and others around the country in the 70's and 80's belong in a public high school and we don't want them here. If you can assist us, you might like to leave a comment at the Naperville Sun Blogs/Naperville Potluck site. A number of us plan to protest at the bookstore since obviously we have to work during the day and cannot do so at the school.

Why is it that we only read posts of officers being proud to be a Chicago Police Officer when tragedies like this take place?

I can remember being proud all the time. No more. Those days are gone. I remember camaraderie and good nature jokes and ball busting at roll call being an integral part of the day.

I remember not wanting to take time off because i would miss a day with my partner, that is what a real good partner can do to your outlook on this job. I loved working with that man, I treasured every tour of duty we spent together. It truly was a Band of Brothers.

Just look at the shambles that these corrupt fucking politicians (Richard M. Daley) have made of our once proud and great police department. All my ribbons are in a drawer and will likely stay there forever. I am just marking time now.

I hope the younger officers get a chance to someday experience the brotherhood and bonds that develop in a good district/unit with good people and good bosses.

The Newhall Incident: An Event That Changed The Way We Train

They called it the "Newhall Incident". It was the worst massacre of police officers in the 80 year history of the California Highway Patrol, and possibly the worst in American history.

The Mayor of Oakland attended the funeral but was asked not to speak by one of the families. They did not identify the family that made the request but the Mayor honored it. It was suspected the lone family was going to pull out and have a seperate funeral from the combined one at the arena. The Mayor did the right thing and showed up payed his repects and sat in the audience. He kept it all about the officers, I wonder if our mayor would? May god bless all friends and families of the Oakland Police Department.

Word coming in that Big Bird did see the cars exiting city limits and attempted to follow them. He was in the process of writing them up for no beat tag, outside city limits, excessive speed and a few other violations when he ran out of gas in Nebraska. He was last seen trying to bum a few gallons of ethanol off a farmer, but evidently his reputation preceded him even in that backwater and he was last seen attempting to keep warm in a barn with various bovine companions.

Boss, i don't know you or have ever met you. But if what I have read here is true, I would be honored to salute you AND your officers at the informational picket for taking the trip to represent what's left of our once great police department. I would be more that happy to "pass the hat" to help reimburse you and your guys for the expenses incurred for your trip. please let us know how we can help you guys recoup your travel expenses. Given these pathetic times this department is going through, it's GREAT to get a "feel good" story about what we really are. THE POLICE!

LMAO!!!! You have to love police humor!!!

On a different note, seeing those pictures made me feel that pride in being CPD that I haven’t felt in quite sometime. If these Officers did indeed pay for this trip out of their own pockets (and knowing Chicago like I do, they mostly likely did) I’d be more then happy to help defray their costs. God bless!
