No Confidence

  • Chicago FOP Lodge #7 held its monthly General Meeting on Tuesday, March 17, 2009. A motion was made from the floor to issue a vote of No Confidence in Chicago Police Superintendent Jody P. Weis. The motion received a second and was put to the members for a vote.

Lodge members voted unanimously to adopt the motion.

We are hearing it was the most well attended meeting in years. Even we had trouble finding a seat. Breaking News.com has some coverage and J-Fed is fighting back:
  • Weis issued the following statement:

"I will strive everyday to serve those that I lead with honesty, integrity, and hard work. I have my team working on building greater business efficiencies into the Department to make better use of our personnel to fight crime and build relations with our customers, the citizens of Chicago."

"While I am disappointed by the Union's actions, I am not surprised by this voice vote of 160 individuals. There are over 13,500 sworn members of this Department. It is for them, and for the residents of the City of Chicago, that I work hard for everyday."
J-Fed seems to be hoping to de-legitimizing the results on the fact that this was a vote of 160 people out of 10,000 (we refuse to believe the 13,500 number as it is demonstratively false and the FOP membership isn't nearly that big anyway.) But it was a unanimous vote. How about this?

Do you, a reader of Second City Cop blog, have any confidence in the leadership of Jody Weis?

We won't pretend that this is any more scientific than the Union vote, but we get around 9,000 visits a day, so it'll be a much larger sampling.

I think Weis has made numerous positive changes, but the biggest mistakes: the brain drain that occurred when he dumped the "old guard" and promoted a bunch of political hacks worse than the old ones. And I hope that the last name that crosses his mind before he dies is William Cozzi.

I could go off on the recent merit appointments, but they speak for themselves.

Interesting. When I voted, the page told me I'd already voted (which I didn't, even though I do know the City creed is vote early and often).

So, add one vote to the totals, SCC. Another resounding zero in the confidence column.

I thought this perfect day ended with a great corned beef and cabbage dinner with Guinness at Dublin's. Then we got the great news. A Bailey's for the lady and a double shot of Jameson for me.

A unanimous "no confidence" vote is not a subtle hint. Do we have to chase this spineless douchebag out of town with shillelaghs?

With no thanks to a worthless media and all too many oblivious taxpayers, da Mare is perceived as a harmless leprechaun rather than the antichrist that he is.

TIME FOR A SECOND "NO CONFIDENCE" VOTE!

Jody how 'bout this. The people you have working for you and the bosses you promoted only have their best interests at heart. They are backstabbing you left and right (maybe rightfully so because you were never the police and have no idea what you are doing as far as police are concerned.)
Try this:
Go to an FOP,PB&PA meeting. Have a joint meeting. Have no body guards, attendants, transcribers, etc. No cameras of any kind. Ask some tough questions that you REALLY want to know the answer to, and get ready to answer the questions put to you. I know you can't normally do it, but you know your career here is over. Try to act in a respectable manor before you leave. I think that is a good legacy

STOP LYING! How about that for a start, Judas-fed! After that, how about treating us like adults, not a bunch of stupid children! 13,500 my hairy white ass! We may have a budget for 13,500, but WE know there aren’t 13,500 Sworn members”. Just like your bullshit that GPS & In car cameras are for “Officer Safety”; Mother Fucker, please…. Sell your $310K a year for 3 years line of bullshit to someone that’s dumb enough to buy it, ‘cause it aint us! Your head is so far up the Mayors ass, it looks like Daly is shitting shoes.

You, Burst, and the rest may have been good, or even great FBI agents, probably looked stunning in a black cocktail dress too. But you have never, are not, nor will ever be THE POLICE! And that is who we need to run OUR department!

I say let the Union mail out votes to all the Members from the SUPT on down to the PPOs in the Academy. I know its Chicago, but try to only vote once.

Now the WEISel is also an abysmal failure as a spinmeister. A unanimous 160-0 vote doesn't require any extrapolation, standard deviations, plus and minus margins of error, ad infinitum. Stick a fork in the WEISel.

The rank and file message is unequivocal:
BUH-BYE!

When the troops have absolutely no confidence in their leader, how can they be expected to go out there and perform their jobs effectively and aggresively. It just isn't happening anymore. No doubt the worst morale i've experienced in decades on this job. And also no doubt the worst leadership i've ever had the unpleseantness of being under. There is no way this dep't can get worse. All I've gotta say is, "it's about fucking time!". Why did it take FLOP so long to even initiate a no confidence vote? And why aren't the other unions in this Dept.
(Sgts., Lts., well, we can skip the Capts. Union, since they are ALL merit appointees) conducting similar votes pertaining to pro or con J-Fed's performance? I'm willing to bet you'll see some high negative numbers in those polls as well. How about it, PBPA?
Are you now ready to stand and poll your membership, and send a message to Shortshanks and the media that we have had enough incompetence at the top (and I'm not just talking about Weis, it's Masters, Hamilton, O'Keefe, Peterson, Jackson, Cuello and Dugan as well)?

What they should have done is not do the vote at the meeting, but send out a letter like they do when we vote for the FOP members without the extra securtiy envelope to save $$. This would have added extra credibility to the vote because Jody's reply is that only 160 votes were casted and that is not representative of the total membership.

Two teens and a 21-year-old man were wounded in gang-related shootings and a man was found stabbed to death in a West Side alley late Tuesday following what was already an unusually violent day in Chicago.

In all, at least nine people were shot and one stabbed in street violence that accompanied springlike 74-degree temperatures.

Not only is Officer Cozzi looking at 8 years in prison but he also faces the loss of his police pension and his military pension. What is his family to do while he sits in prison? Remember, this is how Jody Weis began his tenure with the Chicago Police Department. This is how he said hello.

It is high time he got some messages back from us, loud and clear.

Mark Donahue said last night that Sheriff Tom Dart called to thank him some time ago for the help in alleviating the Cook County Jail's chronic overcrowding issue. No joke. Donahue said this and he claimed it really happened.

Now, in time to welcome the International Olympic Committee to Chicago we need a vote of NO CONFIDENCE for mayor Richard M. Daley taken by the entire membership. Still time to send out the letters/ballots for that one in time for IOC's visit in April.

Civilian/Citizen non-binding resolution for the removal of Supt Jody Weiss.

To place a non-binding resolution on the next ballot city-wide, it would take a mere 58,000 signatures. Thats about 6 for each Patrolman. I'll bet every cop has at least five friends or family that reside in the city, are registered voters, and would be able to fill out a petition properly.

There are other criteria,,,such as they must be presented bound, signed by the person who gathered the petition, etc...

What am i thinking ?, Chicago is a dictatorship, even if I took the time to bother with this, the only thing I would get is the wrath of Daley and inspected to death, made fun of at Mayoral Press conferences, and (fill in the blank)

Now I like the dude, but where do you find those people. He brought in federal agents that just plain old investigate differently and have NO FUCKING KNOWLEDGE of street level policing, he has made it tough for any boss to make any real decisions, you are judges by SCC and the opinions of the few, morale is totally fucked up no matter where you work and he still tries to justify the bullshit he and his puppets keep attempting to implement.

He covered an Asst. Supt. for some bullshit SHE should be held accountable for for no other reason that the fact that it is THE FUCKING LAW! She is aware of the law, she ran the fucking unit. Did they do their job and investigate her? His Chief of Staff Mike Masters has been an Accused in 3 CR#'s, he has been brought down by IPRA for interfering with an investigation, he carries a gun illegally and made an arrest and he is NOT sworn. I wish I was an attorney about now. Everyone that lost their job for something similar to what Cuello did, I would sue, the person MM arrested, I would sue, the Bosses that he dumped, I would sue. OFF TOPIC

Mentioned in another thread but I'm sure more people may read this thread:

To SCC and more importantly Frank Main. Lynette Helm is now a Lt by choice. She decided to return to her career service when she asked to switch positions with Tina Skahill. Here's the more important part, Skahill is being moved from IAD because (1) she got a CR# on Cuello after the incident at her house and (2) there pending investigations against Mike Masters and Masters is not happy with the direction in which the investigations are going. Helm wanted no part of the shenanigans(sp), hence she is now a Lt. I mention you Frank because I know you have been writing stories for the last year leaked by Masters. In case you haven't figured it out Frank, Masters is using you. The information he gives you seldom comes to fruition with the exception of the Mobile Strike Force. The real story is Skahill is doing her job. I hope it gets some legs from SCC or you Frank Main. Thanks

OFF TOPIC:

While striking is against our contract rules, there is nothing against informational picketing. The International Olympic Committee will be in town April 1 - 8 to visit various potential venues should Chicago get the Olympics.

What better places to information picket than at each of these venues? FOP? PBPA?

Signs can include: the lack of a police contract and how it might jeopardize the Olympic bid, the lack of confidence in the current superintendent, real manpower numbers, as well as questions about just how the Olympics will be funded when the city can’t support pension obligations.

Of course should our contract be settled before then, this wouldn’t be necessary : - )

OK hotshot.

If you decry the numbers as too small to consider...put it to a vote, out front.

160 people at any meeting in Chicago is a huge turn out! And very significant is thre fact of
the vote being unanimous.

The media generally shows "protesters" on the news blurbs with far fewer in number and they're "paid" fed, bused, and cajoled to attend.

Why just today I was noting the aura almost electric air of strength and confidence that ripples off his highly developed pecks and lats.
Sure, I've had to do things I hope my mother never finds out about to get this assignment, and I know how you working partolmen call this place fort fellatio, but, I'm inside, I have weekends off, and I get paid the same as you.
I love the administration of this dept, and I hope they are here a long time. They have my utmost confidence.

Hey JPUD News Flash!!!
The vote was taken by members who were in attendence at the general meeting. If you think that those 160 members' votes don't accurately reflect the 13,500 (more like 9,000 in reality) sworn members feelings in your leadership of the CPD, THINK AGAIN. I can guarantee if the FOP mails a vote to all of its members it will be a unanimous no-confidence vote in JPUD. I have not met a single police officer, regardless of rank, who think that JPUD is competent to leader the CPD and agrees with any of his decisions. Its about time the FOP took a stand against this goof before he completely ruins the CPD. Now the FOP and PB&PA need to use this vote as a spring board to remove JPUD and rebuild the CPD for the benefit of all of Chicago. Until this happens I wouldn't do a damn THING.

Everyone has seen through JFED's lies and propaganda. The men and women of the CPD have figured JFED out, the media has figued JFED out, even our simple-minded aldermen can see through JFED's excuses and lies. Everything that has come out of this guy's mouth has been bullshit. He has no understanding of employment contracts, municipal level law enforcement or telling the truth. THe only thing JFED is good for is counting the nearly $1 million dollars he is basically stealing from the City of Chicago.

"While I am disappointed by the Union's actions, I am not surprised by this voice vote of 160 individuals. There are over 13,500 sworn members of this Department. It is for them, and for the residents of the City of Chicago, that I work hard for everyday."
-----------------------------------

Dear Mr. WEIS, we are currently supposed to be budgeted for 13,500 sworn police officers in this City of Chicago. However, due to the retirements, firings and those who chose to move on to bigger and better things over the last few years coupled with the fact that we have had bare minimum hiring to replace those persons, we are no where near that number. While I do actually applaud some of the changes you have made(weapons, physical fitness) you really do need to stop listening to the people that our mayor tells you to put in charge because NONE of them have a grasp on reality of how screwed up this city and dept. are. My advice to you sir is to tell the mayor to go fuck off. You have two more years left on your contract so there is really not much he can do to you. Replace ALL of your advisors with regular sworn police officers from the patrol division from any of the following districts, 003, 004, 005, 006, 007, 008, 009, 010, 011, 015, and 025. Further more, disband all but the necessary units and place all of the mommy and daddy kids back into the patrol division. Last but certainly not least Mr. WEIS don't just say you have the backs of your officers but actually prove it. When there is a negative story about the police, go on TV and back them up(i.e. the CTA bus incident), when the fake revs decide to protest a police shooting of an honor roll student with a 30 page RAP sheet tell them to go protest the neighborhood of thugs that bred these animals. A few simple changes Mr. WEIS and you would be very suprised at how quickly things can turn around for you, this city, this dept. and most of all the citizens we should be protecting, those of which are too scarred to go out after 7pm because of the war zone we live in. Thank you for your time and such a long post Mr. WEIS.
Sincerely, a regular beat cop

P.S.

I am not sure if Shortshanks gets its, but the WHOLE department was not AND IS NOT corrupt. The media and the "know nothing" cop watchers hang there hat on numerous scandals perpetrated by a small percentage of cops.

SOooo, Shortshanks hires J-Fed to ride into town on his white horse to clean-up the whole department.

Well, since J-Fed first arrived his view seemed to be that the whole place is corrupt and started making reactionary changes that affected the good cops, instead of systematically investigating the handful of bad cops and going after them to be made examples of. There was no need to punish Cozzi a second time, all because of media pressure and "know nothing" activists.

Next, J-Fed does his own version of meritoriously promoting individuals who have only seen five or six periods in a squad car their entire career!!!. These nitwits go on to carry out reactionary police policies that don't work at the beat level and try to force the troops to improve their morale.

On top of this Shortshanks continues his spin about crime, cameras, manpower, etc.

Of course there should be a "No Confidence" finding with J-Fed and the Mayor.

Both of them for being grown me are afraid of their own fucking shadows. Anyone who holds either of the two positions cannot base their decision making on headlines and less then informed citizens'/activists' complaints.

Since, King Daley runs the show, I do not see the choice of a new Superintendent being any better.

The motto of, "Where's mine?" is so firmly rooted in the mind of the Mayor and in culture of so many bosses that the the dysfunction will be self perpetuating.

Time for the citizens of this town to vote for a real Mayor and not a politicians - sad thing is that such a person probably does not exist.

Not that I am into conspiracy theory, but could the union suddenly be making a ballsy move that is in fact sanctioned, blessed, or ..... ordered... by .... Daley? A move that allows him the political leeway to dump a 300K per year liability? A liability that perhaps was placed here by the feds and never really chosen by Dale? With this vote Daley may have the political whack to remove him now that Jfeds own troops are in essence trying to vote him out. Just a thought.... I mean, this vote should have take place A LONG TIME AGO... and now it happens, not following any particular move by Jfed with the mayor out of town.... while I am glad that the vote was cast, I am a little suspicious as to the motivation....

What is so simple about contact cards and event numbers. Your still putting yourself out to violate the rights of people who should be able to walk to and from without cops stopping them to fill out a contact card. If you respond to a job, i.e.: a domestic or disturbance, then ok, do the card if no arrest, but stopping people on the street because they look like they are up to no good? Those days are over. We are not trusted to use our acquired skills anymore. It is what it is. You get an assignment, no arrest required, do the contact card. You pull somebody over for traffic violation, issue a ticket or say have a nice day. Forget those stupid blue cards that just serve as proof someday when some ambulance chasing attorney decides to file a lawsuit. Why give them ammo. Respond to dispatched assignments, back up your fellow troops and look out for number one, Yourself!

To tell the truth..I was happy when Weis came in, and took out the old guard..Fuck them I said, but as time went on, and Weis replaced those people with Feds, civilians, and bosses who show absolutely NO Leadership qualities I started to feel uneasy.

I really thought there was going to be some change, and maybe just maybe a move away from political patronage.

What Weis did to Cozzi was absolutely WRONG, but then again he should have been fired in the first place..that is the department's fault not Cozzi's. If you are in court, and you get off on a technicality then..Oh Well (I am not saying Cozzi got off on a technicality, just using it as a hypothetical example). Cozzi should have his job back, and be left alone..he did what the court asked of him, so let it rest.

Look up your seniority using Business Crystal for the entire department for title code 9161 (Police Officer) There are 9900 officers TOTAL, not 13,500. Don't tell me there are 3600 officers with other title codes, because there are not. I'll give you 2,000..so that means you are budgeted for 1600 more, and you don't hire them..Why?? Where is that money going??

Al Sanchez is in Federal Court about political patronage hiring..How long will it take for Patrick Fitzgerald to get to the Police Department?? It has been going on since the 1800's. You CANNOT make rank above Lieutenant WITHOUT a POLITICAL backer in your corner. Either you are related to a politician or you are part of a group of people/family that gives money to politicians.

Is this the way it happens in all big citites? Probably, but don't fucking tell me it is because these people are a wealth of knowledge or have the experience within the department. John Stroger's niece is an exempt for pete's sake.

I have 14 years on the job, and I am in the top 30% in seniority of all police officers. 14 years is nothing compared to the top guy who has 41 years on the job. That is experience and knowledge. Pretty soon, we will lose all of those senior men/women, and the people will have to count on a department where over half of there officers have less than 10 years on the job..is the city ready for that? If the city does not start hiring more officers, then Chicago is truly fucked. Kiss the Olympics good-bye,,if we get it then the world will see how truly fucked up Chicago really is. GO CHALKIE!!

I still go to work everyday do my usual minimal. I laugh and joke with my partner all day etc. Its as simple as that.
Being connected is the way of the world, not just cpd. Sure it gets frustrating at times when you see people get promoted who lack certain knowledge or leadership skills and/or just commonsense. Its very obvious this job is different now. Those days of chasing and kicking ass etc are over unless that one good bona-fide call comes in but thats it.

How about a "no confidence" vote for IPRA??? They'll take any complaint for anything, even traffic. They'll take a complaint which holds absolutly no merit whatsoever. And in doing so just to please the public.

The reform of OPS to IPRA has crashed like a lead balloon. Investigators are hired with absolutly no experience and are given minimal training.

I'll be the first to say that I, like many others, are not happy with our Supt. But I'm even more disappointed with how complaints are handled by IPRA. And I'm not an officer that's on "the list". I get very few complaints and I pride myself on be as professional as possible. Big friggin' deal. A whopping 160 patrolmen said they don't like the superintendent. We all know that he is not the one who runs the department. City Hall pulls all the strings. As it has always been, the supe is told what to do by the people above him downtown. No one is willing to do anything about that. Why didn't anyone make a motion of no confidence in the FOP itself? Read the posts on this blog. I would venture to say that as many (if not more) officers are fed up with the do-nothing attitude of Lodge 7's elected officials as those who dislike Superintendent Weis. This has got to get fixed from the bottom up. Not from the top down. The change has to come from the patrolmen's level first if anyone expects a chance for things to ever get better. If the FOP isn't willing to do anything for its members, then it makes no difference who the boss is. I think it's time to seriously consider something else besides the FOP because the only backs the Donahue team seem to be watching are their own.

The superintendent position is a political "head" and means very little in the policing aspect. Weis may just as well hang it up after the cozzi situation, there needs to be someone with common sense and some balls to come in. but it'll never happen. So, until never happens, go to work get your paycheck and let the assholes continue to be assholes. They are far more destructive to them selves than we EVER could be.

The FOP for the first time in a long time showed leadership. Lets put a ballot out and Jfed should agree to leave if he loses.

3/18/2009 12:34:00 AM

You mean for the first time the FOP didn't shout down the crowd or refuse to hear what the crowd demanded to hear. That's the ONLY new thing that was done. If the FOP wanted to send the message themselves they would have ensured that more of the membership was aware of what would be going on at this meeting so more than a measly 160 would have attended.

It was a lack of awareness that kept the numbers low.

Let's try it again FOP, eh? And this time TELL the membership what the vote is for, where and when it will be and THEN we'll see how many of us get off our dead ass to show Weis what we think he's worth.

Still, the poll here is a decent start. 92% and counting last I saw it.

At about 15:05 today on WLS Am 890.
A sound bite of shortshanks was played regarding the No Confidence vote. To sum it up, Daley has Fed's back, Fed is doing a great job, and he IS highly qualified superintendent.

That pillar of justice, burke, added that if you poll any worker (any field) that most would not like their boss. He goes on to say that he wouldn't want this poll taken at his law office.
What a prick!!

If all of this doesn't show class separation, nothing will. No one has our backs. Not 'shanks, Fed or anyone but blue!

The thing that pisses me off the most is that any street copper knows that 99% of club cool aide can't do street policing.

Bring on the warm weather!!!

I know you play the political game and equipment and money issues are out of your control but you are way over your head. You never were and never will be the police. Wait till union votes for confidence vote districtwide, you won't have 160 votes like you snickered about in paper, you will have 8000! No, a whopping 160 did NOT voice their disapproval. MOST of the people at that meeting are UNIT REPRESENTATIVES. This means they attend to represent their units of anywhere from ten people to several hundred people. Do the math. Those 160 votes represented thousands of police officers.

Want the real numbers? Put the ballots in the mail. Bet your next paycheck the 'no confidence' vote will fall in the 85% to 95%range.

And, for Weis to claim the no confidence vote has anything to do with the lack of a contract is just a typical Fed move; distract people with sleight of hand. No confidence in someone's leadership has to do with interpersonal skills, ability to do the job one was hired to perform, having a salary comensurate with said job (NOT a salary at 200% the going rate for that job), the decency to understand one's limitations and address them, the humanity to see the plight of one's subordinates and attempt to improve their situations... etc, etc, etc.

This man has not shown us he deserves our respect. He insists on wearing a uniform he did not earn and he shows a general lack of respect for us AND the citizenry in overt as well as subtle ways. Park your SUV across a cutout crosswalk, Superintendent. Demand the citation issued to your vehicle be non-suited, Superintendent. Ride your motorcycle with out of state license plates in OUR ride to remember, Superintendent. Refer all of our adjudicated CR numbers to your Fed friends for additional litigation, Superintendent. Go out of your way to demean us, Superintendent.

Respect is earned, Superintendent.

Thanks

3/18/2009 08:40:00 AM

That's some of the most insightful stuff I've seen written here in a while. Masters wields an incredible amount of power right from Daley's office. A lot of these decisions go right around Weis from City Hall to Masters. Masters is the guy that dumped Chasen on a whim. He is also the guy that dumped Tobias from the Academy because he wouldn't go along with the plan to give recruits laptops and house them in the building. Whether you like those guys or not means nothing, it just shows that when Masters speaks, Daley's words are coming from his mouth. Masters is running a de facto administration. Weis is not much more than a puppet. There was a time when 1st Deputy Townshend ran this department while the likes of Matt Rodriguez stumbled from gin mill to gin mill. Masters seems to be running a similar operation.

I Think SCC needs to post this as a topic.

This is from a web site The Shootist … This is the start of what the Obama administration is trying to do and it effect all of us in law enforcement … the shortage in ammunition is real and it here already…

…You may not be aware of it, but there is a severe shortage of ammunition available for sale to the public across the country, causing problems for shooters, hunters, and reloaders everywhere.

Now, apparently the Obama administration, realizing they cannot move against private firearms ownership since the landmark decision by the U.S. Supreme Court in the Washington D.C./Heller case, has made their move in another way.

By cutting off the resale of expended military ammunition to remanufacturers, they have put a stranglehold on the nation's ammunition supply...

Let the privatization of the CPD begin:

Commander Ball 005 addressed roll calls yesterday about a handful of P.O.'s who haven't been cooperating with the new private security company patrolling Michigan Ave from 103rd -115th. Commander wanted us all to know how politically connected this security firm is, how right now as we speak they are in the process of getting city council permission to issue parkers and movers. That's right, per a commander of police a security outfit may be conducting traffic stops and writing movers.

Commander made a big deal about how successful a Canadian security program like this was effective. I'm not sure if Canada has the same problems as Roseland but I do know that one of these elite new security guards locked a trespasser on the sidewalk! Also found two rocks on the guy. Great work except for the obvious civil rights violations. Since they don't have the power to arrest (yet), CPD has to lock them up. Any wonder why some officers aren't cooperating?

My questions: what training do these morons get? Who is bankrolling them? Who is liable when the lawsuits come?

Yeah, yeah, yeah, theyre not here to take jobs from the police. Thats what the commander said. But what are they doing? Riding on domestics and other jobs they have no business riding on. Who indemnifies them? Seems to me like Mayor Midget and his crooked alderthief Beals found out a way to save the taxpayers some money. And yes, it is apparently Beals who has been complaining that the police won't cooperate with "his" security force.

On a side note, to the powers that be: thanks for Capt. JJ "Morale buster". Nice of him to be a no-show when three officers were hospitalized in a traffic crash on his first day. Screw you too jag.

The 160 who voted were overwhelmingly Unit Reps, Watch Reps, trustees, Sgt's at arms etc. The majority of officers present were reps of units from all corners of the city. JFed checked his FBI manual and said:

"I have my team working on building greater business efficiencies into the Department to make better use of our personnel to fight crime and build relations with our customers, the citizens of Chicago."

WTF? That sentence alone speaks volumes!

"...my team...building greater business efficiencies...build relations with our customers..."

WT-double-F??? JFed, You are supposed to be running a POLICE DEPARTMENT, not the Customer Service Desk at the the late lamented Marshall Field's.

Business efficiencies? By adding former Fed buddies? This is not a business.

Customers? We serve the people, but we also occasionally have to piss off some of them by enforcement. I know the business model/customer service line gets you applause at Chief's conventions, or the FBI Academy.
But, in the real world, the spirit to do the job is being lost, because you want to be popular, and play politics.

We are losing a war against crime because you want to be popular and play politics.

The good people (on both sides of the badge)are being screwed because you want to be popular and play politics.

If you wanted to be popular, you should have been a fireman.

The new stations all have problems, the toilets don't flush right. the toilet paper is cheap and my fingers tear through and then I have to triple wash my hands with the good for shit soap that is usually not there. The in-car video equipment is poorly thought out, poorly implemented and uploads are difficult unless you are a computer expert.

And I doubt my pension will be there. No confidence in anything. It all sucks, nothing is any good any more. I just have no confidence that my damn squad car will turn right even if I turn the wheel right. No confidence. It is a crisis of confidence. Jfed has balls. Remember how he went against the mayor and enforced immigration laws. Remember how he stood by the 2nd amendment. Remeber how he went public and said my officers need a cost of living raise. He is one man I can look up to.

SCC--i am hearing that one day last week a calltaker at oemc transferred a caller to the 11th district tact office to report ongoing drug sales at a particular spot. the tact sgt then proceeded to tell the caller--taped on a recorded line--that drug sales are not a priority and that the district wasnt focused on dope anymore. basically, the caller was given a big blowoff--not even any pretense--and blamed it on weiss. the calltaker allegedly on the line heard all this. can you confirm this w your sources?

dont let a vote of only 160 fool you jody. we all are disgusted with your representation of the men and women of the cpd. you have been nothing but a screw up since the day you walked in and you continue to be a screw up.

you have a small following that will support you because they have cush jobs and are afraid of being the working police so instead to keep their job at 35th street they say nice things about you.

we are disgusted and sick and tired. low manpower, no cars, no contract, radios that dont work well. you are a fucking buffoon and we will all be better off when you are gone doing nothing somewhere else.

go away jody, we dont want you here. there is a reason crime is on the spike and that reason is you. and believe me that will only get worse as we get closer to the spring and summer.

get ready chicago its gonna get bloody because we are understaffed and have no equipment.

this dept is in a tailspin

FRATERNAL ORDER OF POLICE
CHICAGO LODGE #7
1412 WEST WASHINGTON BOULEVARD • CHICAGO, ILLINOIS 60607-1821
PHONE: 312-733-7776 • FAX: 312-733-1367
THE ELECTED REPRESENTATIVE OF CHICAGO’S PATROL OFFICERS
PRESS RELEASE
From: Fraternal Order of Police, Lodge #7
Re: Superintendent Weis - No Confidence Vote
As you are well aware, last night the FOP held a vote of no confidence regarding Chicago Police Superintendent Jody P. Weis. The vote against Superintendent Weis was unanimous. The FOP would like to elaborate on why this vote took place.
This Superintendent has done to the Chicago Police Department what the housing crisis has done to the world financial markets. We are in complete meltdown.
Jody Weis has lost the confidence of the men and women who serve the city of Chicago as Police Officers. There are many reasons; so for practicality, here are the highlights:
There is no morale left among the rank and file. Our Superintendent tells the media that he goes out every Friday night and does not see a morale problem. He walked into a District two weeks ago to attend a meeting and asked the first supervisor he saw “How is morale?” The reply was “great.” He then walked away. This is how he judges morale. He doesn’t ask the officers about it, he asks one of his supervisors. The FOP goes to roll calls and talks to police officers and we can assure you that there is no morale to speak of.
The feeling out on the street is that if an officer gets a complaint and it proceeds through the disciplinary process and Weis does not like the finding, he will take the case to the federal government and have the officer prosecuted. He did this with Officer Bill Cozzi after Cozzi took responsibility for his actions, pled guilty in Cook County Circuit Court and at the Police Board. Cozzi was two weeks away from his return to the job after serving a two year suspension when Jody Weis referred the case to the federal prosecutor. Weis chose not to approach Cozzi or his lawyer about returning to the Department. Cozzi will be sentenced in federal court soon and faces eight years in prison. Bill Cozzi has lost his livelihood, his police pension, and his military pension. Realizing that his overreaction to the Cozzi case had helped destroy Department morale, Superintendent Weis guaranteed he would intercede by writing letters to the lawyers and the judge in the case. To date, we have seen no evidence that he has done either of these on Bill’s behalf.
When he first arrived as Superintendent, Weis conducted town hall meetings and heard officer’s complaints and suggestions on how to improve morale and to find out what tools the officers need to help them do their job. Complaints were made about broken down vehicles and he told all of us he would get new vehicles out to the districts. Here we are over a year later and district officers are driving broken down pool vehicles.

There is no such thing as a "yes confidence" I've read some comments that it dosen't mean anything? It means everything! This incompetent buffoon is toast. It's like a bad headine that gets retracted on page 22. The damage is done. We must not let the pressure off. Those calling for the other unions to step in are correct. You never just take one shot at an adversary, keep pushing and aggravating this dismal excuse for intelligent leadership. Anyone voting must consider the total picture. Are you safer today than you were under any other Sup.? Vote your hearts, it really dosen't matter if you click the little box or not. This guy is not good for us collectively. Collective bargainning has demanded your resignation and we are stronger than you can ever hope to be! You are not here for the long run and many of us will remember you with disdain but also jubilation. Jubilation that your gone!

Yo, WEIS!

What were you thinking when you sold your soul to Satan for $310k a year?

Take your "integrity" and shove it up your ass, you shameless, carpetbagging coward.

Maybe just maybe instead of dicking around with Weis our Union could have brought to the publics attention that our Pension fund is in the shitter due to the city's mishandling and THAT THEY HAVN'T PAID THEIR SHARE FOR OVER A YEAR! Apparently that only gets a small mention at the meeting while our great union spends all its time and resources a battling something that really doesnt matter in the big picture.

WHERE THE FUCK IS THE 13,500 POLICEMEN.

WHERE ARE THEY MR.WEIS.

BECAUSE, I AND THE REST OF THE OVERWORKED AND UNPATROLLED NIEGHBORHOODS ARE WONDERING WHERE ALL THESE COPS ARE. I SEE ONE ONCE AND A WHILE BY MY HOUSE AND MORE SHITHEADS COMING AROUND. SO, IF YOU HAVE THAT MANY POLICE, SEND SOME TO MY NIEGHBORHOOD SO MY FAMILY CAN FEEL SAFE.

THE CITY HAS A BUDGET NUMBER THAT IS 13,500 BUT YOUR NOT GETTING THAT NUMBER AS OF THE PAYROLL AND YOU CAN'T COUNT THE CIVILIANS.

OH, YOU ARE COUNTING CIVILIANS.
AND BY COUNTING THEM YOU STILL DON'T HAVE THAT TOTAL.

I HAVE AN IDEA, EVERYONE SHOULD SHOW UP FOR ST. JUDES AND YOU CAN COUNT US THERE AND NOT SOME MADE UP NUMBER FROM AIR 1 ASKING FOR A EVENT NUMBER AND THEN LEAVING TO GET GAS.

We already got you lined up as a cashier in our Weis supermarket in State College, PA.

A great opportunity to "moonlight" at Penn State as an associate professor of Psychological Profiling and a lecturer in Douchebaggery 101.

We even got you end zone season tickets for Nittany Lions home football games. Sorry, JOE-PA said you can't bring your cats to the stadium.

I have no confidence and I'm not a police officer. No one in my family is a police officer. I have no reason to say yay or nay for Mr. Weis other than as a taxpayer, as usual, I feel ripped off. F-U Daley! I haven't voted for you since the late '90s and I'll do everything to see you and your asskissers fail next time around. Oh, yeah, and I voted for Obama. Take that!

3/18/2009 03:24:00 PM

daleys comment was expected! old eddie burke will kiss j-feds ass to keep his plush security detail 6 guys making 150K per year average 2 new crown vics! Wow! Hey news media those 6 make a total of $750,000 per year, and then the city has to hire 6 more to replace these do nothings cost approx for 6 $450,000 at regular pay totals over "1 million" the city lets eddie waste! now edward STFU!!

Are they that afraid of the Mayor ?
I have written to them all.

Be wary of "anonymous" agent provocateurs who attempt to minimize the potential impact of a landslide "no confidence" vote on Weis and Daley.

You don't have to be a bunco artist to anonymously proselytize bullshit to the naive and gullible just to distract them from your hidden agenda.

You're a cop. It's not paranoia. Be skeptical, certainly when the posters fail to identify themselves.

Since 1:05 AM spooked the USDOJ, their constant monitoring of SCC appears to have gone covert.

The G has activated "Operation Secret Squirrel" until further notice.

Rest assured that their now clandestine operatives are still out there in cyberspace.

Can you keep a top secret? The CPD has been under de facto federal receivership for over a year.

What the hell is this? I have never heard of this. SCC can you look into this and find out if it is fact please. I hope to God it's not. Never help this company out EVER if this is true.

wow...as of about 11:30 pm on Wed., 2300+ no confidence votes, 230+ in favor....91%-9% (give or take); seems like the no vote should have been higher (like 95% or so?)....anyway, seems like shortshanks has already made a statement that he supports his supt.....what else was he going to say?..he would never admit he made a mistake (the emporer has no clothes?).....
