So Much for Safety

  • In Chicago, blowing a stop light might get you a letter, complete with a $100 fine, thanks to a red-light camera.

But that might not be the end of your photo-enforcement woes. Aldermen today began discussing using the city's ever-growing legion of red-light cameras to check for vehicle liability insurance.

The city could net nearly $10 million in fines just by citing non-insured vehicles that also get photo-ticketed for a red-light violation, said Ald. Ed Burke (14th), who brought the idea to the City Council Traffic Committee.

Of course, there's just one minor problem:
  • Committee Chairman Tom Allen (38th) said he generally liked the idea but also wondered if it would be hard to collect significant fines from people who perhaps could not afford insurance in the first place.
Good luck with that.

I guarantee the average street cop has had more threats against him than your worthless ass! When someone is kicking and screaming about how no one can investigate him, I would say that person needs to be investigated the most!!! Fuck you burke and your corrupt ass!!!

if our pension fund is not being funded as required by the statute, then the pension board needs to sue the city. The Village of Calumet Park was sued by their police pension board for years of under funding their pension. Their pension board hired an attorney (Rick Reimer)who filed all of the paperwork and low and behold, they won. The Village is bound by the court order to continue the proper funding each year. In our pension law, which is slightly different than theirs, under subsection (G) the city is obligated to deposit with the city treasurer before March 1st of each year an amount that is not less than the amount of city contributions for that year as certified by the board to the city council.
If they are not doing this, then the pension board should hire a lawyer and have a judge make them do it. contempt of court is a bitch, as Weis knows so well.

DEFENDING OUR CHICAGO POLICE OFFICERS
The Chicago and Illinois Minutemen Project members sat through the hearing at Chicago City Hall Tuesday August 5th 2008. We got there early at 8am so we would make sure we could testify. We left at 1:30pm and by then only four Minutemen were allowed speak. The meeting was called by pro-illegal alien lobby Chicago Alderman to beat up on our Chicago Police Department.
What we are witnessing is the dismantling of justice. Hearsay from illegal aliens is held in higher esteem than the testimony of our police officers. Danny Solis and Billy Osaico — two Hispanic aldermen — want all illegals all the time. What we saw with our own eyes was shameful and disgraceful. The very lives of Chicago Police officers is at risk and no one seems to care, certainly not Hispanic Chicago Aldermen.
Not only were illegal aliens preferred over American Citizens by the Hispanic City Aldermen. The Minutemen sat in the first row and while the Sun times and the Tribune wrote articles on this meeting, there was no report of our testimonies calling for an end to Sanctuary Policies in Chicago and No report of us defending the Chicago Police Department and no report that there was opposition to the Anarchy and lawlessness that was going on at the pleasure of the Open Borders aldermen.
6 Minutemen wanted to testify on behalf of Law Abiding Citizens of Chicago and only 4 were called up to speak. While the crowd was filled with actual illegal aliens who were paraded with their children up infront of the aldermen and Chicago Police Officials. Some could not speak a word of English and had interpretors. The pro-ilegal people were favored 3 to1 to come up and speak. An African American man who wanted to testify against illegal immigration was denied the right to speak in favor of illegal aliens.
While we tried our best to defend our Chicago Police officers and the danger illegal aliens pose to their very lives, both Fran Speilman, Chicago Sun Times Reporter and Hal Dardick of the Chicago Tribune choose not to report what really went on and do not care to report both sides of the story.
Thank God we have places like Illinois Review to tell the public what really went on.
Families and friends of Chicago Police officers should be outraged. Our officers have a tough enough job without having their hands tied behind their back when doing their job with people who carry false identification and have no allegiance to America and try to escape the rule of law.
In the words of Rick Biesada when we left we realized as Minutemen we had just all witnessed our first Mexican Hootenanny.

Why not tie the auto insurance database in with the Sec of State so a person cannot obtain or renew plates without valid insurance. And when an officer stops someone the insurance could come up as valid or not. Like California has done for years.

Not to mention, people might have temp plates that don't reflect insurance, plus all insurance companies don't report to NICB or whatever other agency thinks they can provide an accurate database.

Plus, once you get a ticket, if you are in compliance by the time you get to court, the ticket is usually thrown out. WHICH MEANS NO $$$.

Isn't it funny, the city's motivation isn't safety, it's $$$ ?

I see a huge class-action lawsuit ahead for people who were wrongly ticketed.

Try another one MAYO! You turd!

In my district all the "no habla" mopes all drive around with no drivers license but then have a card from Hasta La Vista Insurance Corp that says they made the first payment so no non insurance ticket or tow.

Of course the insurance card is likely no damn good for non-licensed drivers and they never ever will get a license due to no SS# but that doesn't stop these fly by night insurance companies from selling them an insurance card.

Although they all "no habla" they know enough to say "no tengo" when you ask them for their drivers license in English.

Then there are numerous officers of hispanic descent who always let these people go out of a sense of loyalty or something so it is definitely an uphill battle.

They should also prevent people for suing for pain and suffering and limit to medical bills only if they have no inurance or a valid drivers license. This will put a stop to alot of frivolous lawsuits that are jamming up the cook county courts, but it would hurt the lawyers too much and they would not be able to give bigger donations to theses politicians' campaigns

I am sick and tired of all the bullshit that goes on within city politics, the dirty (and they are dirty)politicians. How they can get away with ANYTING they want. Pass stupid laws that do not help the people, but put more monies into their coffers. Raise taxes, because they don't know how to balance a checkbook. (Oh wait...they don't need a checkbook..we have it already!) I am done! I am moving out to the burbs! Should have done it a long time ago!! Like all my brothers and sisters. They don't have camera lights, don't have vehicle stickers, don't have permit parking and all the other stupid laws they hinder the freedom that we are suppose to have!! Oh yeah.another thing....I can have gun in my home, to protect my family, my property!! Daley, your done in my world. Actually, have been since you have been pushing for the games. We don't need them!! We need to have the monies go to the very things the city really needs. I've enough..maybe not..anyways..I'm done.I'm moving and I am glad. Good bye! I am against these camera's because it's an infringement on our liberties plain and simple. People who drive without insurance don't have the car in their own name anyway ,just look at any busy district and we all know it. This is not designed for safety, this is also not designed to hit the slobs that never have insurance (auntie or girlfriends car). It's our job to enforce the law, not a camera's. I am an officer but I don't want to live in a "Police State". I understand that driving is a privilege, not a right and I agree with that but this has the stink of tyranny all over it. It's government control of our daily lives and don't like it one bit because if you think it will stop at traffic laws you're kidding yourself, late on your water bill or some other bill owed to the city? Books past due at the library? What's next?

Traffic enforcement has always been more about revenue than safety.

If you think not, do this thought experiment.

Say the supreme court ruled fines were no longer an acceptable punishment for traffic offenses, and the legislature replaced fines with something like digging ditches.

Want to bet that traffic citations would drop by 90%? Maybe 95%?

How many cars have you stopped and the drivers says "No license and No insurance"? How many have you let go because you dont want to go down on it and your district is heating up.

So the camera catches them instead and they dont pay the tickets. The cars get booted, someone needs to pay to get the boot off. If the cars remains booted, they get towed to the scrap yard. How is a bad thing?

after several federal lawsuits, I never had corp council talk of settling with a punitive amount. Juries recommend punitive and judges decide if that amount is correct. The plaintiffs lawyer doesn't care about what form the money is in in settlement talks, as long as he gets it. This might be third party mistranslation. If you go to trial they will be asking for 10000 in punitive is what I was told.

This guy is as nuts as they come, if the pieces of shit cannot afford insurance what makes u think they will pay a fine through the mail. It remind me of all the talking heads who everytime a revoked or suspended unlicensed driver is in a crash and kills someone the question is asked" How could he be driving ? " Their license was revoked. SIMPLE ASS HOLE he can drive because the courts didnt order his EYES GOUGED OUT. No matter what you tell , fine or threaten these unlicensed, uninsured ass holes with they will always drive because there is no real penalty. Even if they are held without bond(HA HA ) everyone eventually gets an I bond for a traffic offense and are released onto the public to drive again and again. Dont ask such a stupid question " Why were they driving? " They need to get to their jobs, homes etc. So unless you lock them up or gouge out their eyes they will continue to drive, No License, No Insurance, KEEP ON TRUCKIN. Hell you are better off never getting a ,license and just keep getting cited for 6-101 then suspended or revoked driving, how can you drive on a suspended license if you never had one.

Is signing upmfor the DO NOT CALL LIST and our making complaints doing any good or are we just wasting more time.

They need to make some well publicized busts to show they are doing their job.

If you program numbers into your phone, program 786-369-7342 as DO NOT ANSWER, it's an auto warranty telemarketer.

If Shortshanks could tax or fine these assholes he be on them like stink on shit.

The goal of The EVIL DWARF is to have a smaller police department, less real patrol, more in the clout units.

Smaller department is less costly in dollars, less lawsuits, less accidents, more costly in blood.

Get rid of the traditions, the institutional memory and all the skills and street smarts. Just write the reports, write the tickets and generate the revenue.

As the neighborhoods, ghetto, middleclass or otherwise go to hell, they residents will leave and the developers (campaign contributors) will take over and build Luxury Condos (Section 8) for all the illegal aliens who will be flocking to town at our expense.

Stay safe, it's all part of the EVIL DWARF's Master Plan.

i agree with it... if we have to have insurance then so should everyone else. if we can get money from these mopes then im all for it. maybe some people will get insurance now(not likely) but f all of them, if they dont have insurance then hammer them. i dont care about the mismanagement of funds and that pookie isnt gonna pay anyway, but any revenue that we can bring in that will help the contract talks im all for. when the contract goes to arbitraion it is just one more thing for the fop to say about the cities added income and justifies a raise for us.

One thing we've tried in Colorado, and the only thing that's working:

No insurance? It's arrestable here, but if there's also a driver's-license or veh. reg. violation, the entire thing is state charges. An uninsured jackass goes to jail. The city doesn't get any money. I spend two hours down on a booking so that I'm not in Chalkie's way. Everybody wins. (Except Da Mare and fuck him anyway.)

How about just rounding up the Illegal Aliens here and shipping them back to Mexico, or wherever else they came from, and it will save the Shitty way more money than giving extra fines to uninsured drivers. Proof of insurance should be shown before getting yearly license plate renewals. It is a Secretary of State problem, not Shitcago. Shitcago just wants the money, as usual, for all the greedy Democ-RAT Politicians here to piss away and get fatter on.

No license no insurance?? Immediate tow and impound the cars, $500.00 to get it back within 72 hours with a valid license and valid card from a reputable insurance company. If not, the city keeps it and gets the money...auction or sell for scrap. This could be the cash cow for the city.

Slimeball Eddie Burke says he sees nothing wrong with using the cameras to generate even more cash for him and his fellow democrat thieves to steal.

If the City under the guidance of Burke and Daley continue to use the cameras for ticketing drivers for carious revenue generating tickets the no insurance/no driver license mopes will adjust their habits.

Watch the increase of front license plates being stolen off of cars. Some of these same people are also using someone else's identity so why not just use some other car's license plate.

In the end, the City will stick it to the law abiding, tax paying citizens and the mopes will continue to be mopes!

We all doubt it since we see the rest of the team in 014. 2 year wonders and a candy ass sgt. Those guys are probably really happy they are gone...

I guess nobody but people in Edison Park & Mt. Greenwood are struggling, trying to make ends meet...Everybody outside of your proto-type all American villages aren't all scum. There are good people all over this City that are being screwed by this economical fiasco, including people from the West side, South side, North side. They might not look like you and yours, but they work ever bit as hard to maintain their families and properties like anybody else. There are plenty of people who don't look like you and yours, who aren't on the govt. tit. It would be easy for other to say, if you are working two jobs, struggling and your wife is pregnant and your house value has lost $100,000, maybe getting pregnant wasn't the smartest thing to do....Remember one of your favorite slogan: "If you can't feed them, don't breed them". Fair exchange ain't a robbery!! Who you are and what you are isn't Atypical American

3/17/2009 12:03:00 PM

This commentary is a joke in so many ways I dont know where to begin! The people from the west side and south side are the fucking problem!!! Sucking welfare, food stamps, and demanding funding for social programs that dont fucking work! The people of edison park and Mt Greenwood WORK FOR A FUCKING LIVING! The south/west side muts, by and large DO NOT! Sorry that you injected race into this, but numbers dont lie! And I only wish that a certain group (south/west side) would follow your philosophy of if you cant feed em dont breed em! I own a home... even if the value has gone down, I OWN A HOME... I pay taxes, and Im not talkiing about the taxes on a pack of kool milds! I am feeling the pinch a bit but have ZERO sympathy for the muts in the ghetto... frankly, I am fed up with having to provide for thier asses! I could care less what they look like... Im not the one making excuses for generations of failure! GENERATIONS!!! ENOUGH IS ENOUGH!!! How many times can we, the taxpaying people say GET A FUCKING JOB!!! Uhhhh whatever... get over it some people are nothing more than a scourge

There's only ONE WAY youre getting MY GunS (S for plural like in ARESENAL and it will be the farthest thing from pretty) Screw Daley and his bullshit home Rule, and registration.Easy to talk when youre surrounded by "police" all day. What about the rest of us that have to endure the GARBAGE milling on our streets? Surveillance? Yeah right those blue light cams REALLY work well dont they? Maybe they should install one in The Stuttering Fucks office so we can all witness REAL Crime. Burke a cop? for about 3 years and did SHIT while he was one. You cant honestly expect that asshole to be true to the blue can you?Screw him too.
