New Olympic Ad Campaign

This smacks of desperation. The USOC head resigns, Rio is moving up and Chicago rolls out a new design and motto because the translation doesn't work out well?
  • As the date for the International Olympic Committee candidate city Evaluation Commission's visit to Chicago draws near, the Chicago 2016 Olympic organizing committee said Friday it is dumping its "Stir the Soul" tagline and replacing it with "Let Friendship Shine."

Per Chicago 2016 CEO Pat Ryan: "Chicago is known for its warm and welcoming people and its hospitable nature, and we hope to demonstrate this to the Evaluation Commission next month."

"Let Friendship Shine?" What a lame tagline. And get a load of these ads:

This might be the hands down winner though:

Someone needs to warn the IOC about the cesspool that wants to host the 2016 Olympics.

The wolves are already planning how they can fleece & fuck the international visitors whom they count on leaving instead of staying to prosecute the bad guys/girls.

Chicago does not have enough law enforcement personnel to protect the safety of its citizens.

IOC, don't come here ! Chalkie has enough work as it is !!!!

My sixteen year old cousin, an aspiring graphic artist, could (and HAS) done better than this trash. I bet they paid a bloody fortune for it, too.

Can't wait to see the new mascot. Will it be a multi-colored Cousin It, with its hair blowing in the wind like these posters? Pitiful.

How about a little INFORMATIONAL PICKETING while the Committee is here... Are you listening FOP????

That might allow us to inform the committee about how we're really treated by the City and the Mayor in particular, why we're so lacking in manpower, equipment, LEADERSHIP, etc. and NO CONTRACT!

If FOP won't get on board, how about a couple of aspiring FOP Candidates putting something together? This is a perfect venue to get the word out, and we are in dire need of some leadership come the next FOP Election.

Per Chicago 2016 CEO Pat Ryan: "Chicago is known for its warm and welcoming people and its hospitable nature, and we hope to demonstrate this to the Evaluation Commission next month."
---

From the Sunday papers:

"As school officials acknowledged last week, Chicago already has eclipsed in 2008-09 the number of public school students killed all of last school year. And there are still three months to go until summer break."
---

"Three nightclub patrons were stabbed early Sunday in an altercation on the Near North Side, police said.

"The dispute at 151 W. Ohio St., which is the address of Ruby Nightclub and Lounge, resulted in three people receiving cut wounds about 4 a.m., said News Affairs Officer John Henry.

The victims were taken to area hospitals with non-life-threatening injuries, he said.

Police were talking to a person of interest in the attacks, Henry said.

There was “a lot of blood” on the scene, a Near North District police officer said.

Calls to the nightclub were not immediately returned"
---

"A man suffered a graze wound to the back early Sunday when was shot after pulling into a South Side gas station to refuel early Sunday.

About 1:30 a.m. the 23-year-old man was inside a vehicle driven by a woman when they pulled into a gas station on the 7600 block of South Vincennes Avenue apparently to get gas, according to Gresham District police Lt. John Brundage who was citing preliminary information.

The man got out of the car and at that point another vehicle pulled into the station and two male blacks exited it. One of them produced a gun and began shooting at the man for no apparent reason, according to the lieutenant."

"Let Friendship Shine."
Oh yeah, and if not, start spraying with the 9mm.

More than a few years ago the FOP sponsored a protest outside of Lech Walesa's hotel when he was in town for a visit. I think he had jus won the Noble Peace Prize or something and was the President of Poland. I was there and there was a good turn out. The picket line was on Michigan Ave. across from his hotel. Does anyone know if any thought has been given to doing a peaceful demonstration outside the Olympic Committee's hotel in a couple of weeks? Boy would this piss off Daley and give some media exposure to the fact of how bad the department is being run, that we haven't had a raise in 2 years, and the danger all citizens are being put in because of politics and mismanagement of the Department by J-Fed, Shortshanks and the Adercreatures.

For those who like to stretch every paycheck here is something my wife found, If you buy a gift card from Jewel Foods before April 15 (tax refund promo) in the amount of $300 Jewels will add $30 to the amount on the card. For $300 you get $330 worth of groceries. Add in your regular coupons, sale items etc. and buy at a Jewels outside of Chicago and you can save a few bucks.

For the arithmetically challenged that is an automatic 10% discount. Not bad. Shop outside of Cook County and save even more (another 2%)

Every little bit helps.

WOW. I just got home from the "Southside Irish" parade. What a let-down. I've gone to it on and off for decades. I haven't been there in 7 or 8 years, but I now know why the residents have run out of patience.

I saw nothing but a bunch of overfed fatass tweens from the suburbs stumbling around wasted.

My unofficial poll would suggest that the 18-25 age group are 60-75%in the "Binge drinker" category.

So many walking around in soiled pants and vomit hanging from their chins that I lost count.

But, I did see many old friends (on duty officers) doing a fine job at 111th & western.

Glad it's only once a year, otherwise I might have to renounce my Irish heritage!(lol)

All you guys are a bunch of dumbasses.......do you really think that the decision hasn't been made?

Do you know that the major Olympic sponsor for the past 37 years (McDonald's) has all but told the IOC that they won't bankroll their end (10s of millions of dollars) if Chicago doesn't get the games?

Chalkie has a bigger franchise in Rio with 5,000+ reported murders a year. That's not counting the ones done by police hit squads on shitbags in that town. That along with no infrastructure and just not enough room dooms Rio.

They won't be in Madrid or Tokyo as both areas have had games in the recent past. The 2012 games are in London and we just had games in Peking. The US hasn't seen summer games since 1996, so 2016 will make it the right amount of time.

President Joemamabama is from Chicago and the IOC wants his clout behind the games.

We have the best money plan and the best gameplan.

We need the infrastructure that the US government will improve at their cost.

Were getting the games, get used to it,,,,all the protesting in the world isn't going to stop it.

Amen!

A lot of those tween girls pissing in the middle of the street in the middle of the day are daughters of police officers (north and southside). God knows what they start doing when the sun goes down.

Too many cops do not give their children a proper upbringing and it shows. By the time a teenaged daughter is peeing in a crowded street, the war is over, and it is lost.

How so many on this job let today's culture bleed into their own homes is beyond me. They should know better.

I think the younger parents on this job should take a look at this parade and remind themselves what is really important in this world.

It isn't city corruption, or department favoritism, or reverse racism, or the mayor, or chalkie, or any of that other silly bullshit police deal with everyday.

It's what happens in your home and the examples you give your children. Those examples are what those kids are going to take with them when they go out into what can be a very unforgiving world.

The South Side Irish Parade Committee is happy to offer interested residents, organizations and businesses within a reasonable vicinity of the parade route the opportunity to participate in our portable restroom contract. Under that contract, portable restrooms are available for rental for $75.00 for the day of the parade, which represents a substantial discount from the retail price.

If you are interested in renting a portable restroom, please send or drop off a check for $75.00 multiplied by the number of restrooms that you’d like to rent to Patrick Heffernan, 10734 S. Talman Ave., Chicago, IL, 60655. The ordering deadline is Monday, March 9, 2009.

"Chicago’s Olympics plan relies heavily on existing and temporary structures which has lowered the overall cost.

"'We don't have to invest in a new airport and we don't have to invest in transit system. We just have to build on what we have,' said Chicago 2016 President Lori Healey.

http://www.wbbm780.com/pages/
3853287.php?

Airport?

"Mayor Daley...did suggest spending $50 million on the expansion of O'Hare International Airport."

http://cbs2chicago.com/local/
chicago.stimulus.money.2.957405
.html

Transit system?

"Here is a look at Illinois earmarks in the $410 billion spending measure approved by the Senate late Tuesday."

"CHICAGO TRANSIT ($36 MILLION): Today’s legislation includes over $36 million in funding to create a new transit line, the Circle line, in Chicago

"The proposed Circle Line...is...a key component of the City's transportation strategy for the 2016 Olympics."

http://blogs.dailyherald.com/
node/1597

Hmm.

Here, Daley enlists drinking buddies to pressure for the Olympics -- as if they're going to help it.

"The nation’s mayors officially endorsed Chicago’s bid for the 2016 Olympics during the Saturday session of the group’s 77th Winter Meeting in Washington D-C. Mayor Richard M. Daley spearheaded the endorsement from the 250 plus member U-S Conference of Mayors."

http://www.wbbm780.com/pages/
3679281.php?

...and this...

"Chicago's Olympics fundraising ambitions target some of the industries hardest hit by the financial crisis.

"The city is counting on a major bank, a home-improvement firm and companies in nine other categories to pony up an average of $100 million each toward a 2016 Summer Games.

"Chicago's sponsorship target is the single biggest source of funds to pay for the $3.3 billion it's estimated the games will cost. Unlike the three other cities competing for the 2016 games — Tokyo; Madrid, Spain, and Rio de Janeiro, Brazil — Chicago doesn't have blanket government financial guarantees backing up its bid.

"Recent moves by some large U.S. companies suggest Chicago faces a tough road. Atlanta-based Home Depot Inc. ended its U.S. Olympic Committee sponsorship in January."

http://www.chicagobusiness.com/
cgi-bin/article.pl?articleId=31486

I can't quite track down the story I heard on the radio today quoting a member of the Chicago 2016 committee as saying that we'll need to spend billions on "infrastructure improvements" -- which will all be wonderful and useful after the Olympics are over.

Man, this thing is going to cost...and cost...and cost...do you get the impression that they're, well, lying about the total bill?

NO OLYMPIC$!

Agreed, it sounds like a great deal and thanks for posting it.

But, guy; the name of the store is Jewel. No 'S'. Jewels are something else entirely.

Cue the Keesing Bandit...

Per Chicago 2016 CEO Pat Ryan: "Chicago is known for its warm and welcoming people and its hospitable nature, and we hope to demonstrate this to the Evaluation Commission next month."

The Olympics in Chicago will only make money for two groups. The politicians and the prostitutes.

The difference is that there is honor in being a prostitute. They give you what you pay for. I would rather have a daughter in a whorehouse than a son who is a politician.
