Pullman Village Revisited

  • Pullman believed that the country air and fine facilities without agitators, saloons and city vice districts would result in a happy, loyal workforce. The model planned community became a leading attraction during the World's Columbian Exposition of 1893 and caused a national sensation. Pullman was praised by the national press for his benevolence and vision. As pleasant as the community may have been, Pullman expected the town to make money. By 1892 the community, profitable in its own right, was valued at over $5 Million.

Pullman ruled the town like a feudal baron. He prohibited independent newspapers, public speeches, town meetings or open discussion. His inspectors regularly entered homes to inspect for cleanliness and could terminate leases on ten days notice. The church stood empty since no approved denomination would pay rent and no other congregation was allowed. Private charitable organizations were prohibited.
Now how about this?
  • A Department of Revenue worker today told me they were being instructed to go into CPD police parking lots to look for cars on the boot list and also cars with expired plates, no or expired city sticker and those plastic covers over your license plates.

Those covers can get a parking ticket. I have not seen any in the A3 lot but this guy was from the Dept of Revenue Office on Diversey/Ashland.

There will no doubt be some Dept. of Revenue ticket writers and boot crews cruising the police lots. he tells me that Dept. of Revenue supervisors all over the city are telling their crews to do this.

Another sign of appreciation by our Mayor.
Gee, a captive workforce, taxed beyond belief with more taxes coming, no contract for almost two years now, and when money runs short, start looking for fines to levy so as to keep them in servitude. Looks like we've found our mayor's role model.

don't forget about the signs that read; "Police Personell Only." if they are inside the parking lot, past the sign, phyically arrest and charge with criminal trespass to state supported property and real property. don't forget to call the city inspector general's office after making the arrest.

Especially Dept. of revenue! They are NOT emergency vehicles!!!
BTW, make sure to park your squad car properly unless on an emergency call!

Easy solution when u see a department of revenue van commit a traffic violation just pull them over and remind them of the violation they committed and what the penalty is for it. We are all pretty much on the same team. If everyone remembers that we should have no problems.

Ok, tell me why cops don't need to follow the laws that they themselves are charged with enforcement. Consider that many law-abiding Chicagoans have lost full respect for CPD cops specifically for that "above the law" attittude regarding their own and their family members' lawful behavior. Cops who willful flaut the laws, even the local laws and City sticker program, give a black eye to the CPD, because it appears to say that such behavior is OK.

Every cop should realize that in his personal life that he's still a daily reminder of CPD force, and any negligent or illegal action reflects badly on the entire force. You need to be a good example to the community, even in your own neighborhood. There isn't a special exception here.

You know how to get back at them, pay your tickets. Keep your licences up to date and your stickers where they should be, not in the glove box or at home. Get the tint off the front side windows. Don't put shit on your plate that doesn't belong there or your state sticker anywhere you feel like on your plate. Get a front plate. I can't stand the coppers who can't take care of a few simple things like following the law. Sometimes it is a pain in the ass, but you knew you had to do this when you came on the job. You are the police for God's sake, act like it. I have seen every one of the above violations on coppers cars in the district lots. Nobody changed the rules in the middle of the game. There are some coppers who I hope get tickets or the boot, I am soooo sick of them doing whatever the hell they feel like. Don't want the boot or a ticket, get your shit together.

Nice to know that the gutters on the streets of the model town of Pullman are now filled with used condoms and that the drug dealers are finally taking over the streets with active selling from autos happening on a nightly basis. George would be very upset at how things turned out 125 years later.

So, what you're saying is that you, personally, respect every law, every rule, every ordinance, etc., and that the purpose and meaning of your existence is solely to serve the makers of said laws, rules and ordinances, right?

One question:

Have you always enjoyed taking it up your ass, or did you acquire that particular habit as you passed from childhood into adulthood?

I think it's beyond that. They are paid to write tickets, no discretion. They don't car whose car it is or why it's there. You can argue it out in front of an admin judge. They don't care. If called to assist the boot guy, I wouldn't take their side for one second. I probably would consider the double parking ticket for them if they have the street blocked.

Listen idiot... If the Police wrote tickets for every infraction they observed citizens driving with, they would s&*t themselves. Sorry to say, most of the "citizens" ticketed would be for their tricked out cars. Wheels to big for the vehicle (Of course you know car wheels cant surpass the wheel wells), Tinted windows, coffee can mufflers, Objects hanging from the rear-view mirror, no seat belt, unrestrained child, improper headlamps and turn signals. The list goes on and on. So the next time you write your, "were above the law speech" sit back and think. Do you really want "us" to hammer the citizens with tickets like we could. Then shut the hell up !!!

This was tried years ago, near the old 018th Dist, when the boots first came into use.

A PO saw a boot vehicle on the street double parked, door open, engine running and no one around. Concerned about the guys safety, he looked around to make sure he was OK.

He discovered that the boot guy walked half a block, with a boot, sneaked into the 018 lot and was booting a coppers car. After asking for a pass for the PO to correct his situation without booting the car and the boot guy refusing, the PO went back to the boot van and waited for the boot guy and wrote him for obstructing traffic and unattended motor vehicle, engine running.

The boot guy went into 018 and beefed, the D/C called the PO in and ordered him to non-suit the two citations and got a CR on him for "performing any act detrimental to the Police purpose".

He took three days when he got promoted during the appeal process and FOP refused to represent him as a Sgt. He eventually lost two days of Sgts pay for the incident.

heres a whacky true story for you, today a sgt and 2 beat cars respond to call of revenue female being followed and frightened by a guy on the 3300 blk lincoln ave on our busy holiday weekend. post haste cpd arrive to find the offender is guilty of feeding three meters for customers of his business so they don't get ticketed and not come back...so sgt informs meter maid that this is not a crime, and to calm down as she was yelling at him and cpd. sweet meter reader accuses same man of interfering with her doing her job of writing citations and this is keeping her from getting lunch! sgt restated, its not a crime to feed the meter even if the cars aren't his. that its considered a random act of kindness...so we will name check him and if he's clear we must turn him loose. She then tells sgt that you have to wait and talk to my supervisor....of course since sgt was already enroute to Masonic E.R on a just prior job;, that wasn't about to happen. point is, no meter reader can tell you what the laws are, they are ignorant to the bone and political hires 98%. Second, they never show respect to any police and are always crying wolf when actually they are throwing temper tantrums in public. They need more training and supervison to say the least.
And don't get me started on the illegal parking these Revenue workers do all over the district while they ticket the public for the very same violations. God bless the good business man who did a kind act in this wacked city!

City of Chicago had it put into Illinois State Statute that no city larger than one million can engage in collective bargaining for residency.

This effects only Chicago. To begin to change residency you have to get this state statute rescinded and Daley won't allow this to happen. FOP has tried.

Once this statute is rescinded the FOP can enter into collective bargaining regarding residency, not before. Of course we deserve the right to have this at the table at contract time but the City cleverly had state labor law changed so we cannot.

That is the impediment, not the FOP or any other reason, per Illinois Statute we cannot bargain for residency. We need to get the law repealed or else get it in front of the Illinois or US Supreme Court and declared unconstitutional.
