Fire Department Oddity

A few days ago, we posted a story about a fire department official under investigation for having copies of a promotional exam in his possession and making it available to certain persons for a price. We ended up with a ton of comments and learned an interesting bit of info:
  • Sadly the fire dept has appendix G in our labor contract "Copies of written examinations will be made available to the Community Advisory Board".
We also spoke to a number of firefighters and heard that their Department canceled the upcoming Fire Lieutenant test, then reinstated it without comment, based on this "appendix G." The investigation itself was based on another one of those "statistical anomaly clusters" that seem to pop up with astonishing regularity whenever the City of Chicago offers a promotional exam. Somehow, upwards of 35 of the top fifty spots in the last exam went to persons who attended the church that runs this "Community Advisory Board" and counts a Deputy Fire Commissioner among its members.

Call us cynical, but making copies of an exam available to a "board" prior to the actual examination can only be an invitation to cheat. And if the "cluster" numbers prove to be accurate, the odds would be even more laughable that the 1987 CPD Exam-Scam of 13.8 trillion-to-one that this was a legit test.

Don't the citizens of Chicago deserve to have the best and brightest public safety personnel protecting them, their families and their property day in and day out? Wouldn't that kind of be accepted practice seeing as we pay an outrageous amount of taxes and fees to live in this paradise? But then, if you look at who the mayor is, who he surrounds himself with, and what he's done over the past 20 years, you shouldn't be surprised.

If there is a 9/11-type event here and one of my family members die from the result of a bad decision from one of these "M.B." bosses, I will sue the FUUUUUCK out of this City!

Is anyone naive enough to believe these shenanigans don't occur in the CPD?
Secret Study groups, invitation only study groups. Tact team study groups on company time given by the WC in the Rollcallroom. 3 POs asigned to Neighorbood Relations in the same district all happen to make Sgt. on the same test?
Keep buying the lies to study hard, it's all legit...Bwaaaaa!!!

I am currently studying for said exam and putting in 5-8 hours per day reviewing all of the 1500 plus pages of source material. Actually, there could be more than that but I have not counted it. The problem lies with the "brass" who are majority white. The city is attempting to "even out" those numbers by handing out said test to the "underprivileged." As far as I am concerned, if you can't read, you have nobody to blame but yourself. Not the damn system. As building construction changes to lightweight, we will be seeing more deaths from the fire dept as a result. You can blame the City of Chicago for their affirmative action b.s. I want the most qualified individual promoted! Not some knucklehead who does not have a clue!!

Um, NO.

Why Not? BECAUSE YOU TOLERATE THE MACHINE. The sad truth is, you get what you are willing to tolerate and therefor you deserve what you get. When one changes, so will the other. Another truth is, one of the main reasons Chicago sucks is a lot of the people who live there, this is directly related to the sad truth above.....Yes, I used to live there. No, I don't anymore....

It is scary to know that the best of the best are not the ones that are OR will be making major decisions at fire scenes.

Why would you put your families lives, your communities lives, and possibly your own life in the hands of someone that is so lazy and not willing to take the time to better them selves? This is exactly what you are doing by offering the questions/answers to a test... regardless of race! I can't wait to see the blank faces at the scenes when these bosses are asking their men what they should do rather than being a leader because they know lives can be lost if they choose wrong... or seeing rigs come back to the scene 2-3 times because they didn't get the entire fire the first time because these bosses never bothered to reevaluate prior to leaving... that would involve effort and why would they put effort into the job when they didn't need to put effort into their promotion?

Its a shame to think that the city forces us to live in such an unsafe place. As mentioned above... lawsuits are sure to follow mishaps due to bias testing.

Keep believing the "change" concept that the Obama administration had all the liberal and non-liberal white people flocking to. This is the "change" of things to come. The current Governor now speaks of increasing taxes upwards of 50%. Yep, another "change" we need to believe in right? Exam-scam (Coined term from the 80's), will be swept under the rug by the Daley administration again. Their needs to be a oppositional surge amongst the good hard-working CFD and CPD employees who do work hard, take promotional tests and want to do the best we can. But I doubt that will ever happen, we'd be labeled racists. Power of your votes...

Tax paying whites folks are not part of the "community".

Kind of like the 008 tact teams under ronnie brannon! The whole team "a" 8 guys same test all promoted! Yea it is fair!

An outside company puts together the test for CPD. That test must be overlooked and approved by departmnet personnel to ensure that the test is on the "up and up" This is where the bullshit begins. How many bosses see the test, make copies of the test, and give out things to their people to ace the test?

I remember Maher telling people in the 014 District to study certain aspects when she was the Chief of Detectives..now who did she tell more things to? HMMMMMMM??

If the HDO can get city jobs for Hispanics..don't think that the clouted within the city cannot get promotions for their own people..

Jody you want to fix the department..start with NO MORE MERIT promotions..look how many merit people you had to axe when you got here..that just shows you how fucked up it was and still is.

Never in a 1000 years. The politicians are elected by morons. It's hopeless. The new governor just announced a $11.5 BILLION tax increase and Stroger proudly says he will run in 2011 in the highest taxed place in the USA. Voters are stupid.

REMEMBER THE COUNTY BUILDING FIRE? FIRE FIGHTER FRIEND WAS ON SCENE AND SAID FIRE DEPT FUCKED UP BECAUSE OF SO MANY HACK MERIT BOSSES ON SCENE WHO NEVER FOUGHT A FIRE.

HOW MANY DIED? 5-10 PEOPLE DIED DUE TO INCOMPENTENT LEADERS.

BAD BUILDING MANAGEMENT, NO FIRE DRILLS AND FIRE BOSSES WHO DONT HAVE A CLUE.

JUST LIKE CPD.

AND IN THE END CITY PAID OUT BIG BUCK FOR ERRORS MADE BUY MEIRT BOSS PROMOTIONS.

HISTORY WILL REPEAT FOR SURE.

GOD HELP US

WE WILL NEED IT.
