- GEU/GES started off with good intentions. During meetings, we were told "No B.S. Missions, No details/parades (with the exception of July 3rd)" Just guys who know what they are doing being allowed to go out and do it.
Now we hear.....
"We are going to start doing Gang Suppression Missions...." and
"Report in uniform on Sunday for the Southside parade."
More lies as usual, thought I was smarter then to believe what they said. 90 days can't come soon enough, back to the district for me.
We've already seen one comment telling the guys and gals who volunteered for this that if they don't want to do this stuff, they ought to quit and go back to pushing a beat car.
First of all, we could use the help, so come on back.
Secondly, doesn't anyone see what's going on? They are enticing dozens, even a hundred cops at a time to forgo contractual guarantees, with what are essentially lies. Once you are in a Unit, many of your protections go out the window. You can have your shift switched, you can have your start time altered, they can lie to your face and tell you your just going to be doing the same thing you used to do in the District but on an Area-wide bases and then turn around ship you from the north side to the south side because of some "heater" homicide involving gangs and conflicts you have no idea about.
See you at the Biliken Day parade. Count on it.

stop crying...you are still in a unit.. there are hundreds of officers who are more than willing to take your place at the drop of a hat.. im sure all of those officers would mind doing a few details for the perks that are given in the unit... stop crying... if you wanna have timed lunches, ride around with a ppo, and get nailed with jobs all day long then come back to patrol, i would be more than willing to switch with you... bunch of whiners these days, grow up and realize it is a job, and you are getting paid for it...there are alot of worse jobs out there that pay alot less... if you feel its time to hang up the designer blue jeans, slick shoes and hair gel and come back to patrol then do so.... but dont bring that whining crap here in the district because its gonna take alot more than you got kid to convince me your even worthy to be a member of the cpd...grow up.

So the plan this year is to hammer as many South Side Irish Parade party goers as possible.

Saw a sgt. I knew at the retirement seminar yesterday. Seems that he showed up for lunch, AND THAT WAS IT.
Talked to a friend of mine in the unit he’s assigned to—financial crimes maybe? (before everybody starts screaming 'who cares, bunch of clout-babies anyway', most people assigned there were there from the unit's inception, no clout involved , and went there when nobody else WANTED to go there.)
This sgt, used to be in IAD. He was overheard by people in the unit that he'd been to the retirement seminar 7 TIMES!!!! I thought there was a rule you could only go twice, which is why I've waited so long to go. But we know the rules only apply to those of us in blue shirts, not white.
Did I mention there's a rumor this sgt lives outside the city??? Who investigates IAD, or ex IAD? I would guess NOBODY.
Was told there ARE a lot of clout-babies in that unit who didn't ever conduct a financial investigation until they were assigned there, including some FOP guy, don't know who.
And wait till you hear this! The rock star/clout babies are assigned to task forces like IRS, FBI, etc., and get ENTERPRISE rental cars to take home, along with......now sit down:
$1300 a month in overtime, even if they don't work it. WHAT THE HELL???
Supposedly morale there is lower than in patrol, and at least 4 or 5 people are thinking of bailing. So all of you clout heavy people, start planning ahead.
LUCKI me, I'm now a do nothing blue shirt with only a couple of years to go. I’m proud to be a do nothing, biding my time, backing up the boys/girls in blue, counting the days.

Some of the posts on this blog make us look like we have less of an education than fourth grade CPS students. Because this blog is read by so many media people, civilians, etc., a post with errors that are so basic diminishes the content of the post, and diminishes our credibility.
And as I recall, the original post was not terribly supportive of the recruits who were fired.
In case you don't realize it, YOUR post did exactly what you accuse ME of doing--bashing a fellow copper, using language that would make most people blush.

What we need to do is get back to basic policing in this city: respond rapidly to in-progress calls, conduct street and traffic stops, and arrest bad guys. To do this effectively you have to have a strong patrol division - 2 man beat cars, wagons, tact teams, mission cars, etc. We need to eliminate most of these specialized units and beef up patrol. If the patrol division was fully staffed at the district level, they would be doing the job that MSF, GEU and all the other acronyms are doing now because they would have the time and energy to do the job, instead of racing from call to call because of shortages. Other "real" police departments have done this to a success. Oh, that's right, this is CPD, which stopped being a "real" police department some time ago.

The gang thing IS a 90 day detail, so if you opt out within the 90 days, you will be sent back to your unit of assignment. After the 90 days you WILL be assigned to this unit, thus forfeiting that trump card of going back to your unit of assignment. It's a roll of the dice. I'd be wary of them really changing the rules after the 90 days, because now they know they've got you by the short hairs! If you want to leave after the 90 days, you have to bid out to a recognized vacancy. That is, unless you have a phone call...

And while I love polish people and have no problem with them celebrating their many days throughout the yr, do we ever set up DUI checkpoints on Archer when they are driving back and forth with flags flying everywhere? What about the parades on 26th street or the puerto rican fest in humboldt park? Not enough gang bangers to mess with there or are the powers that be afraid that the gang banging latin politicians will scream racism if we mess with them?? Like i said, there will be plenty of drunk assholes acting stupid sunday and they can be dealt with, but for the many just drinking a few beers and hanging with friends let them be! Lets not forget we dont have many friends left out here and the fact is that 90% of this community actually supports the police unlike some of the other nationalities out here! There are busloads of people coming to the SSI parade from suburban bars and North side bars. Most of them come complete with a kegger or two, and one I know is advertising free jello shots enroute. thats why most of these units have a 90 day detail where you can still go back to your previous unit of assignment. if you cant smell the bullshit in 90 days you my friend have bigger problems. and another thing there is a waiver everyone that went to the new gang unit signed giving up certain contractual rights. and no one held a gun to their head to sign it, at least i dont think leo is a little crazy, so there should be no reason to bitch.

I was on a district gang team and when they announced this, I went to see how good or bad it would be from jump street, pretty much knowing the answer before getting there. No equipment, no cars (I know whah, whah) but they were able to come up with blackberries so they can get the sergeants at all hours of the day. Which to their surprise, when the sgt's are off so are their blackberries... LOL
We were taken from patrol and are the red-headed step children of OCD. They come up with reports and froms but when asked have NO idea how they will be used or when to iuse them.
Then there is the South Side Irish parade "detail". Just because we are in a unit they can change our start time etc...but they cannot change our days off to avoid paying overtime... I will unfortunately be at the parade with my co-workers and I cannot speak for them but there will be a grievance first thing Monday...You are going to pay me one way or another.
Before the nay-sayers get started I have more than 15 years on the job and still love being out there...An oldtimer told me a long time ago anytime you get a chance at leaving patrol do it, it will always be there....I tried it, it may eventually be a good thing, but I will gladly go back to 1st watch...

Just so you know SCC those of us who declined on paper before this whole GEU/GES started were still forced to go on this detail. Everyone was promised that they could go back to their unit but that is looking like a lie. Dugan, who is pissed that this unit was even formed is refusing to make any moves. When this detail is over, all of us will be assigned to GES and if we decide to leave we have to fill out a PAR form and if we are dumped we are at the will of the department and where they want to send us. So, the big promises made to us are being broken, it is no suprise that the smaller ones are too.

I was hoping that no one would volunteer for this unit. Could you imagine the egg on Weis' face? But of course that was a pipe dream, "kiss asses" and "brown noses" seem to abound these days. And now they're whining? I ought to whine about you. And when are we all going to get outraged about having no contract? For a while, I've been wondering if I was going to retire before the new contract, now I wonder if I'm gonna die first. And as far as the grammar wars go: I, for one, care about the status of my profession. Being able to write coherent reports without grammar school style errors is important. Communicating through the written word is difficult enough without confusing the reader with numerous errors. And then it's no fun to have some defense attorney pick your reports apart when you're trying to put some mope away. Our job involves communicating. If we want a drunk to get the f... off the bus, street grammar and street vocabulary are quite effective no matter what a liberal with a you-tube cell phone thinks. But why do we coppers think using basic grammar is sissy stuff when we put pen to paper? Oops, forgive my age, when we put finger to computer keyboard! I have read a few reports with so many grammatical errors they actually made no sense at all. You can't make your point if you're not understood! And don't trust those computer programs, their spelling and grammar ain't so hot either. Can I say "ain't"?

SCC - Thanks for putting this info out there. This unit is nothing but a move to go around the contract. The perks in this "unit" (and I use the term loosely) are few and far between. However, the pressure to get numbers is increasing. I have heard that the "same old same old" is now occurring (veterans know of what I speak). Be careful MSFers, your bosses will not back you if shit goes down. They are very worried about moving on and up ("so make sure they are not on the paper in case there is a lawsuit" does this sound familiar?). I too thought the District sucked and I was tempted by the greener grass of "units". But after being all over this Department, I know now that a District is the place to be. You have contractual backing and more of a brotherhood amongst your watch.

eliminating units and returning all the officers to patrol would make WAY too much sense. Imagine how much more effective we would be.. 2 cars per beat, in the beats that statistically have the most calls for service (places like 006,007,011,015,ect.) There would be much less "when you finish with that domestic, there will be two others in your stacking."
Since this will never happen, and all of the acronym units will be here long after we all retire, If someone wants to join one, good for them. Wouldn't you rather work in the GEU than walk inside some mut's apartment and end up wrestling them on the roach-ridden floor because "my babydaddy done put his grimey fing-uhs on my mommas unduhwears."? Maybe you wouldn't, but plenty of people see a unit as an escape from non-stop domestics, noise disturbances, taxi disputes, and every other nonsense job that comes with pushing a beat car.

She is a Sergeant who takes the time and makes the effort to insure her team members are well informed of on going events and investigations. She makes sure they are aware of proper police procedures to protect them, not to treat them as "second graders". I am a copper who lives just west of the route, I do not usually need the police. I live on a great block in a great neighborhood. 022 can not handle this mess.
My neighbors and I need you guys on this one day. Please look at my house and our neighborhood just as you would yours. How much would you let your wife take or your kids see? We should not have to flee for the day only to repair damage upon our return.
F$#k the mayor, aldermen and bosses dont write an anov, that thing is just more litter for us to pick up. Please lock up pissers/fighters/crim tresspassers and anywone else you see who needs it. What is with this new AIRA system what a fucking joke!!! I love the dept has this great system that doesnt work takes 10x longer to write a report. Then you call to get help from the help desk, and then they give you 6 numbers, and no one knows what to do, they were like here you go they should help you out. What a joke. The person who ever invented this system should be shot. OMG what a pain in the ass. I love how the one guy from the help desk tells me you know what you need to go into the station and do the report. Well ok thats great that we have these wonderful PDTs that work. I am so sick of this dept not talking to the working police and saying yea its ok. 014th district uses them. Well I work in 9ner, and 14 will never have the call volume that we do. I don't know what they are going to do when we the summer hits. They are going to have to down half the cars when the computer system goes down. Another wonderful system for the city that works. The Aira system is a fucking joke. Its the worst idea the city has ever come up with. I will love it when I am going to say squad my computer doesnt work and I will need to go into the station and do the report. Then I love it because you will need to go into another system to go into it and edit it and even print it out.
As to LINK Cards: I don't have a problem with our military guys and gals getting help. THEY deserve it and earned it. It does bother me seeing some vista lottey winner WHO HAS A JOB gets my tax money because he THINKS he does not make enough money. Sgt. DM is dedicated to the well being of the Police Officers assigned to her team. She is a Sergeant who takes the time and makes the effort to insure her team members are well informed of on going events and investigations. She makes sure they are aware of proper police procedures to protect them, not to treat them as "second graders". A proper role call has been part of law enforcement for over a hundred years and is used in every jurisdiction worldwide. It may infringe on the "FUN" but what is not fun is providing a list of your assets to the lawyers in Federal Court because your sergeant didnt take the time or make the effort to properly train, coach and mentor his team. History has many examples of poor leadership in this Department. Poor decision making and poor judgement are usually mistakes that can be prevented by a good leader. Now go have "FUN" with your "COOL" sergeant.

Sorry but while they can change your starting time, by contract they CANNOT change your rdo during the period, it must begin at the beginning of the following period; they can cancel your day off but they must compensate at time and a half, they are violating the contract by doing that today, what will you do about it?????

Few nights ago you asshats were talking about the other teams in A/5 and acting like 25th is the best. You tools think u are too good to walk downstairs for roll call. As someone who has attended the parade for years (and a civilian) I just wanted to say thank you and compliment all the men and women in the CPD who were at the parade. Despite the insane amount of assholes there, the police officers were polite and cordial to all of us just trying to enjoy the parade. As for the few fights near the CVS, it was handled (from my family's perspective) promptly and professionally. I just wanted to say thanks.

I work for Sgt.D M and have absolutely not problems with her. She looks out for the safety of her Officers. The Jaggoff 3 year wonder who wrote that should go back to patrol and when he's all grown up and no longer sucking from his mommas tit, maybe he will understand how this job works.
