Olympic Stuff

Some damn funny readers out there. Creative, too:

And there are hints of protests in the works by "neighborhood activists"
  • International Olympic Committee members making their final site visit to Chicago April 2-8 will face “demonstrations in the streets” unless the City Council approves an ironclad contract by then outlining community benefits, activists warned Wednesday.

The benefits they’re seeking include a guarantee that 50 percent of all Olympic construction contracts be awarded to minorities and women and that 30 percent of all units at the $1.1 billion Olympic Village built on the campus of Michael Reese Hospital be made affordable.

Well, unless they're part of a selected few construction companies already doing City work, we'd imagine they're out of luck. We're pretty sure the contracts for this stuff have been agreed to on the sly for quite a while now.

If ANYONE here takes up sides with this particular "protest" group than you truly are just a big stupid cop that whines about anything! Im not all for the olympics, frankly, I could give two shits as Ill be out of here well before 2016.... But the "protest" group is being organized by sandi and jesse jackson and they are playing the race card again! You know, the "GIMME SOME FREE SHIT CUZ IM BLACK OR WE WILL PROTEST YOU CUZ WE AINT GOT NO JOBS NO WAY" (ask Budweiser how effective these little temper tantrums can be) So I understand if you want to have a rally of your own, then please, by all means... But PLEASE do not rally around jesse, sandi and the rest of the race baiting fucking morons!

What ever happened to taking care of your own city before you pursue the Olympic Dream of flushing billions down the toilet for the sake of what? A terrorist attack? Having this city end up being even more crowded and taxing our already shit-ass infrastructure? Grrreaatt..that's what I want - more foreigners!

Just heard this tidbit on the news... Daley is resurfacing all the streets around washington park for teh olympic committee. Amazing the non-taxpaying residents get everything. The northwest side looks like war torn iraq with the potholes but the shitheads get new streets.

yes, walsh is minority owned. they don't qualify for DBE because they are huge, but if that's not what people are asking for in the contract, they might make out. They are probably about the only way your could swing those terms - i don't know of any other minority or female company with the scale to do the construction projects.

Didn't they say that this Olympic Village was to be built by private funds? If I am paying for the construction of a building to be used as a place for the athlete to live while here and then sell later, shouldn't I be the one that decides who builds it?

The entire area of the proposed Olympic Village is getting their streets repaired in preparation for the visiting officials. (probably getting lighting and tree trimming also).

While the rest of the city has thousands of pot holes and no visible crews doing any work to fix anything.

p.s. Shanks says we don't have enough money to fix all the potholes (ABC 7 TV and WLS radio).

Regardless of how anyone feels about labor unions---with regard to all these assholes out marching about minority setbacks, nobody seems to mention that you have to be in a union, have a GED AND pass a drug test. That pretty much eliminates 95% of those picketers.

Oh, and I forgot, they don't REALLY want a job, they only march because Jesse Jackson et al pays them to.

From the Chicago Reader's Clout City blog's comment section:

The Truth Hurts
March 17th - 3:02 p.m.

This olympics scheme has 3 goals:

1. Push low and no income minorities out of the city.

2. Re-inflate the real estate balloon, using the dirt cheap properties formerly owned by those displaced minorities.

3. Finance the above via the taxpayers dollars.

The many lucrative contracts directly connected to the olympics will be pocket change, compared to the fortunes to be made, if this scheme succeeds in eliminating a substantial portion of this city's low and no income population.

Those currently members of the low and no income minority groups will have limited options under this scheme.

If they are owners of real property, they will either be forced to sell, cheaply, under the eminent domain powers the city will impose upon them, (if their real property is within the areas targeted), or, if their property is located outside of said targeted areas, they will be leveraged to sell, with the use of building code violations and increased property taxes as the stick and/or market forces increasing the offered price for their property as the carrot.

In any case, they, the minority owners of real property, will, if this scheme is successful, no longer be residing within the city limits.

Daley and his crew have never liked having to kiss the minorities' asses and have been trying to come up with an effective way to significantly reduce the number of resident minorities for some time.

This olympics scheme is what they've determined to be the one most likely to achieve that goal.

As for those minorities not owning real property, well, if they want to remain residents of this city, they're just shit out of luck.

After all, section 8 housing is everywhere now, in practically every suburb within cook county and even the surrounding counties.

There will be a small percentage of minority members who'll be capable of lifting themselves out of their low and no income status, even though many minority members fail to recognize, acknowledge or avail themselves of the opportunities to become capable.

This small percentage will be tolerable, (to those who, as a rule, do not want any minorities living within the city), just as long as said minorities are no longer a political threat at election time.

So, when you read posted comments touting the olympics, understand that those pushing this scheme truly believe that they are working to improve the future of this city, via the displacement of most all of the minority population which they consider to be the main source of most all of the city's problems.

Even those opposed to the daley machine will have a difficult time proving them wrong.

Reminds me of what Daley Sr. did prior to the 1968 Democratic Convention. Dozens and dozens of redwood fences began appearing around the neighborhoods, hiding vacant lots full of abandoned cars and debris. Same shit going on now boys and girls, now move along, theres nothing to see here!
