What's Your Assignment?

From the comments:
  • A/3 is in some kind of personnel check from the inspectors.I don't know why, but, I never saw the inspector. The pussy sergeant and patrolman walking around like kings, asking fellow sergeants and patrolmen questions like they were 2 year olds made me want to puke."We are here to fuck you , now talk to us".FUck you, you are all young ones your day will come.

Supposedly, they're auditing how man people are really needed inside. They're going to be auditing a lot of units to determine necessary personnel.
We've heard this is happening in a number of units. Head counts for desks, offices, lock-ups, etc. If there are people who aren't specifically assigned to such-and-such and opening by bid or by management, then they're headed back to the street.

We can only say, it's about damn time.

good!!!! if you wanna be a desk officer CAPS officer, or other inside job (HQ), then apply to be a secretary in a downtown office. if you wanna work lock-up, then apply to be a cook co jail guard. this applies to all except those who did their time on the street and have enough seniority to bid to the inside jobs

There are so so so many people hiding in do nothing positions or positions where they get a whole days work done in about an hour then play on the internet the rest of the time or get to go home.
I understand if these are older guys that have put in their time and are on their way out, but to have officers (mostly females) with under 5 years in these positions is just ludicrous.
That's exactly what makes morale go down the tubes.

WTF ? The Dept decides what jobs to fill "inside". The officers working there are ONLY by seniority bid. Whats ur point?

Why would we work in a downtown office or be a cook cty jail guard when these jobs exist in the police dept and need to be filled ?

FYI: some of these spots are a pain in the ass that many don't even want to bid on

They've done this at least 4 times since 2003. It's an age-old practice. They've just been more obvious about it for the last 5 years. It's a simple clout check. Every now and then you have to get your ticket re-stamped or be replaced by someone with "current" juice.

Youngsters....alot of these people aren't super-heavy. They were just sharp enough to realize that there are better ways to do 29 then pushing a beat car in 007. Lighten up, if you have an IQ over 70, you'll figure it out.

And there are stretches of time in 019 that they could easily use SEVEN OR MORE and keep them all busy for hours (but not a solid 8 hrs).

The problem with the desk is that you need to man it to function at peak capacity, and each watch has unique responsibilities. It is not the luxurious job that lotsa people think. Sometimes it requires reverse seniority to cover it because its simply too much work for a lot of people.

And, the problem with the 019th dist desk is that it is also the Area HQ... the 5 Area dists, 002, 005, 011, 019, and 025 are much busier than the other dist desks, just because there are so many units and officers assigned there.

There's a reason why guys say 'just give me my beat car on days and leave me alone'.

The older guys are too smart to get stuck inside with no freedom to leave or no place to go. When a "handwaver" walks up to the desk, you can't really wave back and continue on your way to Starbucks !

The desk is a bid spot. if the desk people have less than 5 yrs, it can ONLY be because no one with over 5 yrs wants that job. Otherwise, bid for the spots when they open. what is it that makes that ludicrous???

If senior PO's don't want the spot and don't bid on them, how does that ruin morale?

All those officers should be sent back to the districts to drive a beat car if they love driving around so much. Body guards if Chicago is safe enough for the Olympics no one needs body guards send them back to the districts were they can body guard the street.

Saw Asst. Deputy First Superintendent Chief Patrol or is it administration (whatever JPUD is calling these days) Jimmy Jackson's video on behaving during St. Patrick's Day parade and I threw up in my mouth. I don't go to the parade, I don't like crowds but it sickens me that the fucking department has the nerve to show that video. Most of us are adults and JPUD and his gold star buddies constantly insult the rank and file of the department by treating us like a bunch of drunken teenagers. Part of me wants to go out and embarass the shit out of the department just to make those at the top look bad. I am really considering doing a drunken public act in front of a bunch of news cameras in uniform right before I quit this job. Fuck you JPUD.

Good idea. Put the WORTHLESS dead weight on the street where you'll be counting on them for your backups and assistance. Then they'll man the desk by reverse seniority since no one wants to be there, and the young "workers" will be on the desk.

Be careful what you wish for. This is not an ideal world !

the inspectors could have a field day if they were to check all the hidden people upstairs in the commanders area of 009th dist. there are 4 or 5 people claiming to be commanders secretaries. One female 2.5 year wonder is now one of Roy's secretaries who's only purpose is to handle the paperwork on cr#'s.Of course only 1 or 2 of them are actually listed on the A&A's as secretaries. The other ones are hidden in various ways on the A&A's. Inspectors should come to 009 and go upstairs on a day when they're all there....wait that never happens. With regards to the 5 coppers in 023 who input cc data. You are quite wrong. The 2 officers have over half a century of time between the 2 of them and they are bid spots according to the contract, they are entitled unless someone has more seniority to outbid them. We just got 2 civilians from a lawsuit their union had against the city where they had to be relocated to another city dept. The other officer was in a traffic crash and endured some recontructive sugery, while on duty, so he is getting taken care of as he should. The F/2 has been reassigned to the watch. So there!!!!

The soft inside positions should be reserved for the old timers that did their time on the street chasing the bad guys and now can't physically take being out in a squad car or want a nice warm spot to be while they wait and retire. They paid their dues and they deserve it. Instead this department let's many new people start on days, get trained on days and before you know it they are working in the front office with the rest of the useless staff that never did a day on the street but are the first one's to get into all the training and special overtime options because they are the first to get the letter that came down announcing it. I remember being in the academy and people saying I can be a secretary for a company making 27k a year or a can be a secretary for the CPD and make 63K a year and carry a badge and gun. The department hired these people that never had any intention of being the police and allowed them to be dogassess. It's sickening. This department has lost control.

Well...because the braintrust that designed the District put the radio room on the second floor, away from the desk where the inside P.O.s work.

Sure, it's close to the roll call room, and someone that doesn't work the street thinks that's a good place. But all the inside people are assigned downstairs, as is the Watch Commander. They should have put it there. Constant presence at radios, no loss of personnel. (forehead slap- maybe we should have asked a working P.O..) I still remember one of the Sergeants laughing about how they tried to put a firedoor inside the prisoner processing area.

The P.O.s working the street are the biggest wasted resource on this Department. All the experience, none of the input.

The reason one (1) PO needs to sit in the radio room all tour is because 018 3rd watch has to deal with 7 roll calls:
1300 Michigan foot
1400 early cars
1530 late cars
1600 cha
1700 rapids
1800 nigth tact team
2030 rush st detail

then you have check off's:
1345 2nd watch foot guys
1445 2nd watch early cars
1345 2nd watch late cars
day tact team

Then you have inventories. Also radio room personnel has to list all traffic accidents for the previous watch. Basically, cater to all the cab drivers who have their own "Rules of the Road" book. Every time you walk away someone is calling you to open up the room so it's easier to just stay in there.

This is why one (1) PO spends the whole tour in the radio room.

3rd watch is starting off almost every day with a back log in 009th Dist. Is there an Order on how may officers can be staffed to the commanders office, caps, etc. Im sure the beat cars on days could use the "help". Maybe when there done with their "work" for the day they could do a school crossing, station assignments or sit at one of the many school details. It would also be interesting to know if these officers have ever had their C U denied due to man power needs... Hey bigbird ! Would you please stop hammering the beat copper who just got his ass kicked all day for petty S@#* 10-4? (I'm just saying)
