Pension Fund

In these times, one needs to think "outside the box" like the mayor does when he's looking for more money for his "Quest for Fire" Olympic dream. This bright idea was given to us by a reader:
  • Why not have the Pension Fund provide a large portion of the backing for the Parking Meter deal? In addition to the interest generated by the loan, write into the management contract that a sizable percentage of the quarters collected go directly into the Pension Fund, something like 50 or 60%. Then, how about the ticket revenue be handled similarly? 50%? 75% into the fund until the shortfalls are erased? That way, coppers would be encouraged to write tickets again since they'd be working for their retirement guarantees.
We aren't economists, but it sounds like it could work on some level. We don't see anyone else with viable suggestions and it has to work out better than Venecko and other mayoral relatives skimming management fees while losing a million-and-a-half of our money.

No.

How about They just stop stealing from the fund??

How about They just fund it properly, per the law, like They are supposed to??

Let us not start a slippery slope ourselves. If we agree to something like this then we are condoning Thier actions.

Daley stealing our pension money

Recently, our pension fund has been subpoenaed by the inspector generals office. They are requesting any and all documents regarding DV Urban Realty. This is a company that is 51% owned by Allison Davis (a Tony Rezko partner) and Bob Vanecko, the nephew of mayor Daley. This was a risky real estate fund to develop properties in low income neighborhood.

Our board attorney, David Kugler, has advised the board to not comply with this subpoena, citing jurisdiction. This is a legal technicality to avoid giving up any information. I motioned at two consecutive meetings to comply with the subpoena. Unfortunately my motions have fallen on deaf ears. The board has refused to comply. Our board should not do the dirty work of covering up for the mayor's nephew.

Money from this pension fund is derived from over 9% of an officer's annual salary and from taxes that are levied. Any transaction conducted by the fund should be completely transparent. Both Officers and Tax payers should be appalled at this.

I urge all officers to forward on this to other officers. Also, THE NEXT PENSION BOARD MEETING IS APRIL 29TH AT 221 N. LaSALLE 16TH fl

This sounds like Mike Shields getting shut down by the Daley appointed pension board members. Daley giving our money to a Tony Rezco company! Pass this on.

Election tomorrow.

there are still coppers out there talking about Quigley as being a good idea.
He was at Cops 4 Kids shaking hands, but he was not a the march downtown.

Rosanna Pulido was there. she is the only choice that makes any sense.

How about a post to convince any copper that is thinking about Quigley to think a little harder and do the right thing.

Turn out will be low so with a large enough conservitave showing we could put a Republican in that spot.

Think what that would do!

Or you could just be a lemming

I think some smart lawyer would be able to firgue out some type of conflict of interests. It would probably turn and bite Officers in the ass. Allowing people to act in a manner that would personally benefit themselves leave the door to abuse wide open. Good intention Officers could create an atmosphere of penalizing citizens for financial gains. If ever proven,in a civil court, when its low threshold, it could leave the pension fund open for litigation

I wrote to channel 7 after the Chuck Goudie piece aired. I will, without a doubt, never watch channel 7 again.

Here's my letter and their response:

Mr. Gowdie [sic; intentional],
I viewed your piece that aired last night regarding the "bonuses" that Chicago police officers and Chicago firefighters receive. I found your "investigation" to be lacking and critically misinformed. Why the police
were given these "bonuses", i.e. for the city to not have to pay the pensionable portion of this salary, was never discussed. Your one-sided take of an issue hardly qualifies as "investigative reporting" when you fail to answer the most simple of questions: Why?

As a result of your shoddy journalism and neglect to provide an unbiased and impartial view of the Chicago Police Department, I will no longer be a viewer of WLS channel 7 news or programming.

Sincerely,
My name

Their response:

If there was a factual error in the police pay story or you have
information about any other factual errors we have made in any story,
please let us know. We will correct them.

Thanks for writing,

If the pension fund provides the money two things will happen;
1. none of Daley's friends will make any money off the deal,
2. by showing a profit Daley would have to pay back the fund (P&I) and maybe be forced to contribute to the pension itself.

With anything this city does, if it doesn't benefit Daley and his friends it doesn't happen. Just look at the contract talks, VEBA or even the 55 and out idea. Each one benefits Daley more than it benefits the PO. Be very careful, leery, when the city proposes anything that it says is a benefits for POs.

That sounds great. But let us assume we do write a large amount of tickets which then leads to the loan being paid off sooner than usual. Then what? All that revenue goes to the company. I believe Shortshanks expects the company to sell the lease back to the city at a loss to the company. Look at all the malfunctiioning street meters. They were like this before the company took over and the lap dance media blames the company not the asshole mayor.

Regarding writing tickets to beef up the pension fund, it is probably a bad idea.

Since the march on City Hall you can be sure that a lot more civilians have some sympathy for your plight. They also read this blog.

If officers were to start writing tickets, after being encouraged by brother officers not to, you could possibly lose a lot of public support.

3 Cops in SOS Get Their Badges Back

Very quietly, the Chicago Police Department has given badges back to three police officers who had been caught up in the Special Operations Section scandal and relegated to desk jobs as part of the ongoing investigations into wrongdoing, department officials confirmed today.

With police powers restored, Greg Insley, Dave Case and Paul Zogg can return to the street and real police work, department officials said. For Case, reinstatement brought a promotion, from sergeant to lieutenant. The officers could not be reached for comment, or declined to comment publicly about their reinstatements.

"Why dont you just try to be coppers instead of politicians? You want to make policy, run for office, or just shut the fuck up.

Sorry, richie, if your miniscule 'piece' of mind has been more disturbed than usual, lately, but, in case you hadn't thought of it, citizens can be both cops and politically aware individuals, all at the same time.

Deal with it.

But we suppose that when the lieutenant at Midway (who happens to be married to an exempt, who can't even recall to whom he sold a health club to) says it's ok to bring a gun to the airport in violation of Federal law, well, anything is possible.

What does Commander not-so-bright say about this TSA breach?

4/06/2009 06:38:00 PM

Good question he needs to dump lt schmitz and now! maybe leo needs to be dumped also what an asshat1

With all of this GOOD O'BOY NET WORK going on I feel like I'm in a bad episode of the Dukes of Hazard. Where Daley is Boss Hogg, Weis is Rosco P. Co-Train, and Special K is Cletus.

Does anyone see the similarities between Daley robbing all the Money and Boss Hogg's scheming.

Rosco had a better handle on things in Hazzard Countys Sherrifs Office, than weis will ever have on the CPD.

Special K will never get Daisy, and the Duke's will always be safe with him around.

Signed;
CRAZY COOTER, coming at ya!

I wrote before...I think Mike Shields is a rising star. He has the youth and tenacity to help us out of this mess of coverups and stealing by the Pension Board. If that guy needs a personal bodyguard, I would do it!!! I would take a bullet...as I have before on this job...but this time for an even greater cause...for US!!!!! Go MIKE....GO!!!! We have your BACK!!!!!

4/06/2009 10:34:00 PM

of course you wrote before, Dan. You write here every time there is pension news. Your writing style is so unique it has gotten so easy... I gotta say, if meatball wants to be taken seriously, maybe he should dress/act a bit more appropriate while at a highly publicized function... the 8th grade sweater vest with a cigarette in one hand and a coke in the other just doesnt command much respect... How about a suit? Maybe shake a few hands, tell us your story face to face rather than having your brother do it on the blog... I was at the rally and meatball just strolled on by, not a word to say to the rank and file... just enjoyed his coke and smoke... real professional.... Im just sayin! Kohl's has suits for $99 would go a LONG way kid!

tHAT SHOW WHY "SCC READERS ARE LEADERS"! Great idea it could work, and then i personally would write lots of parkers to be sure we get all the money due us!

4/06/2009 12:29:00 PM

Can you say "conflict of interest"
Yes, great idea, how many po's would take this too far and ticket inecent folks including relatives? They would find a way to justify it to themselves but we all know this is a stupid idea and moraly wrong you greedy fuck!

To the person who asked about the pension being backed by Illinois law, yes it is. That is, until some political judge determines it is not. Oh, I forgot, it is all on the legit in this state and that would never happen.

Just how about hiring real investment advisors not play for pay goofs. If you do not get an adequate return on investment during a certain period, fire them.

The best idea would be a line being drawn between the trustees ( and the free trips they are given) and the advisors. How many of the trustees have been on advisor sponsored trips? How often? Do the trustees then vote to hire the advisor?

SCC- look at the advisor listings- you are only at the tip of the iceberg with the nephew nonsense.

old retired guy

4/06/2009 07:26:00 PM

Agreed. Hire a PROFESSIONAL firm that invests and if they don't turn a profit, they get let go. Enough with this friend and relative shit getting to play with the pension fund.

Why would it be any other way?

Like Northside said, PABF lawyer Kugler is an asshole. He's the one who refuses to open the books on OUR pension fund money and the Daley crime family. Just another one of Shortshanks toadies. He would be the last person that should be representing police officers, retirees and widows.
F#%k David Kugler.

Or quite simply how about pressuring the FOP together with all of the other Union's into lobbying City Hall, so that a Municipal Ordinance is passed that when city assets are sold or leased that all pension funds have to be made whole.

RE potholes:

Daley is going to hire a company (a no bid family or friend) who is going to fill the potholes for a price from anyone who wants to advertise on the pothole.

Daley was asked if he would consider the KFC way and said he wouldn't count it out.....he's just thinking of who he can snare to set up the bu$iness (Walsh?) and rake in million$ from the advertisers and wait for his "contribution" or kickback. Don't be surprized if some former hired struck fraudsters come back into the fold for a second time around under a different name.
