Zone Down Again

This time, Zone 2 covering the 019 and 023 Districts. You have to love a software patch/upgrade that manages to render a sizable percentage of your force unable to communicate with their lifelines and with each other.

And that along with the not-available-for-prime-time super-secret OEMC mirror site going up at O'Hare that Fran Speilman doesn't mind revealing to terrorist masterminds.

Now we get word that the entire AIRA (automated case reporting) was giving out duplicate Record Division numbers for a portion of last week resulting in who knows how many man-hours wasted by Review and the D Unit to straighten out.

Please, can we get a decent technology team together?

I think we're the only district still using the old pdt's, at least the ones we have.

Remember..we lead the solar system in cutting edge technology.

Also, two district stations, one north and one south, had bizarre electrical problems last night. Emergency generators kept trying to kick in and causing repeated power surges.

Hmmmm.... sorta makes you think, doesn't it?

A decent technology team would probably just get told that their ideas (things like redundancy and proper maintenance and testing I'd imagine) would cost too much to implement.

ask anyone who regularly does paperless case reporting and they will tell you that AIRA is flawed. most guys use CHRIS because it works. AIRA does work but with a lot of glitches.

How about printing out an AIRA report and seeing information missing from the printed copy. Information that might be needed when you testify. Do you thing that the Court is just going to take your word that it WAS in there but now it's gone? Guess who the finger pionts to when you end up in Fed Court. You must be a lazy know nothing cop- computers don't make mistakes.

I was pissed. That happened to me. I grabbed an RD using AIRA and when I finished my report and went to submit it, it gave me an error message because the same RD was pulled. I had no options left so I called HELP (less) Desk. Anyway, I figured out what to do on my own. When this happens, click the RD from the finish screen and then just get another RD from OEMC and change it in AIRA. Easy fix, stupid problem. I had to explain to OEMC what happened because on their system I'm the rightful owner/generator of that number but someone else was also issued it, finished the report and submitted it first. Basically, AIRA and OEMC need to interface better. Like I said, if it happens grab another RD, explain to OEMC that someone else grabbed that RD via AIRA, and go on with life. Millions of dollars wasted on shit!

If people were hired who will make the best system out there for us rather than the clouted family member contract, just like streets, we would have a good system. But Daley will continue to hire shitty do nothing people who know him or know someone who knows him. Not at all the best.

Not to downplay the potential seriousness of this incident, SCC, but if it had to happen, better that it did on that zone. Neither District is known for having major fireworks, if you know what I'm saying.

019, definitely the strangest, clannish, most self-absorbed police district in the entire city.

I have been repairing my PDT myself, it is that or do without a PDT on a primary beat car. The batteries were gone years ago. My PDT has reception/transmission ability in only about 2/3rds of the district, the rest is dead zone.

And it is, of course, Windows 98 equipped. Hot stuff 11 years ago.

How come the proudest moment as police officers in recent memory was the 4,000 man march downtown to protest the crap the city shovels to us?

My personal favorite police experience of recent years was voting on the no-confidence motion on Jody Weis.
