A Chicago alderman has introduced legislation to create "official placards" that the city's 50 aldermen could place on their vehicle dashboards, but she emphasized it wouldn't be to avoid parking tickets.
Ald. Lona Lane (18th) said Thursday the measure will be tweaked, but she said she would like some designation for vehicles used by aldermen. She said she would like it to allow her to park on permit-only streets while visiting block clubs.
Let's just call this one exactly what it is - more aldercreature bullshit.

The heir apparent to retiring Ald. William J.P. Banks (36th) displayed a Fraternal Order of Police medallion and an FOP membership sticker on his car even though he is not a police officer, in apparent violation of state law.
John Rice, a top aide and driver to Banks, said he did not know his use of the medallion was inappropriate.
Shortly after the Tribune contacted him about the issue Wednesday, he removed the medallion from the "JR 10" license plate on his 2009 Lincoln MKS and took off a windshield sticker that read, "Active Member, Fraternal Order of Police, 2008."

Ald. Sharon Dixon (24th) was back behind the wheel Thursday evening after a judge ruled her license was improperly suspended when she was arrested for drunken driving in January.
Dixon allegedly smelled of alcohol and failed sobriety tests after arguing for half an hour with four Chicago police officers on the Far North Side. Her license was suspended when she refused to take a Breathalyzer test.
But at the end of a four-hour hearing at the Daley Center on Thursday, Judge Eileen O'Neill Burke said one officer's claim that Dixon appeared drunk was undermined by his own testimony that he told her to drive home moments before arresting her.

How awesome would it be to have one of these "official placards" in your locker or at home as a keepsake. I'm thinking they'd be a collectors' item and that there would be a spike in theft from autos from Aldercreatures vehicles.
If that was the case, what a crock of horseshit. These blaldermen are wastes of skin.
As far as the drunk alderwoman Dixon goes, I was in the same courtroom for another case and I stayed and watched her Summary Suspension hearing.
Although it was obvious that she was drunk that night, there were mistakes made that led to the judge's ruling. The officers did everything they could to avoid it getting to the point where they arrested her. They told her several times to go home but she wouldn't listen and remained on scene constantly telling the officers to move their cars so she could drive down a block that was shut down while CFD dealt whith a fatal fire.
That being said, when the officer who did the field sbobreity tests admitted that he told her to "go home" several times before smelling the booze and arresting her, it made the case weak.
My favorite part was when Alderwoman Dixon was asked why she refused to blow into the breathalizer and she stated, "It(voice deepening)...wasn't right...It(long dramatic pause) wasn't right(sigh)..."
She knew that she bombed the field sobreity tests and she was going to blow over.
As someone who makes a lot of DUI arrests I have to admit that if I was the judge I would have ruled the same way. The judge did scold Dixon telling her "you are an elected official, you can't act like that" and I'm sure the judge knew herself that she was drunk, but when the 3 officers and a sergeant tell her multiple times to get back in her car and go home, it makes the case weak.
She insited on pushing the issue with the officers. After telling her to go home, the first officer got back into her squad car, the alderwoman then opened the squad car door and continued to demand that the officers do what she told them. When she didn't get her way, she then called the alderman who represents that part of the city "to tell him how unbelievable the whole thing was." That alderman told her that he was in Washington D.C. and he couldn't help her. If she had a problem she should get the officers badge numbers.
I think that he thought she was loaded and wanted nothing to do with the whole situation so he just tried to get out of it himself. Although I amdit that that is pure speculation on my part.
The alderwoman LIED HER ASS OFF on the stand. I feel that she lacked credibility in everything that she testified to(includeing that she demanded the officers do what she told them to because she was concerned about lawsuits against the city and the way they positioned the squad car was going to lead to a lawsuit -HUH?). But despite that the judge had to rescind the summary suspension because there were mistakes made in the case.
Anyone who lives in her ward on the westside please remember that she is a compulsive liar who got lucky with this one.
I saw let them have their stupid placards. It's not like these p.o.s. pay their parking tickets anyway. If they do get a ticket it's either non suited or they claim they were on official business and pay it out of their million $ discretionary fund.
Off topic I am against the 55 year of age medical coverage being negotiated into our contract. In exchange we will be forced to give up most, if not all of whatever raise mostof us need now to pay our bills. This is another agenda being pushed by and will only benefit the generation as a whole that has ruined a once great economy and country the "baby boomers" The 55 to 65 year olds who already had their home values soar 700% if not more over 30 years. For those of us under 50 do you think you'll be able to sell your $260,000 house in 25 years for what would be the equivalent of 1.75 million no fricking way! By no coincidence the same age group that runs our entire government and every major U.S. company. In other words the entire country.They have done a great job of taking care of themselves while pushing all the debt to future generations.There in the process of doing it again on a massive scale. As a group they have never taken responsibility for anything and have never bitten the bullet and sacrificed. If they get this 55 and out we will be left holding the bag. I say to the oldtimers thanks and your seniority deserves respect but you've had your chance to work save and invest.Give us younger guys a fricking chance for once!
If Alderman Lane really wants that kind of permit, than all she needs to do is buy the professional residential permit that the city clerk has. It is a $300.00 per year permit, valid in ALL RESIDENTIAL ZONES from 7:00am - 9:00pm. We encourage the Hospice Nurses and Real Estate Agents to buy them, so why not the Alderman?
Lona Lane is a drunken political tool...she throws the police department under the bus every chance she gets and then expects parking breaks and her own personal foot cop to walk the street in front of her office; because she's afrade the people of her ward will come in and beat the crap out of her!

what do they need placards for? The aldermans office is where you got to buy you oermit parking stickers in you ward. They alderman can grab a book for any permit parking in their ward from their OWN office prior to going to that block.

Years ago the F.O.P. sticker meant something when displayed properly. It went south when they were given to 'girlfriends' or anybody we wanted to impress and when the F.O.P. gave out multiples and sold the plastic medallions to anybody. We didn't enforce them, there is a law regarding proper display by P.O.s only, and now they mean nothing.
If you're going to ask 'what trees have you planted?' I've taken back over a hundred so far. Always told the offending driver to have his Police Officer benefactor contact me at the station and I would repace/return the sticer/medallion/hatband. Never got a call so far. I hope the guy in 003 that was selling them for $10.00 is gone. Never identified him or I would have called.
My long point is, the placards will mean nothing, just as the F.O.P. stickers now do. Write away.
I've seen those membership stickers on cars (usually sports cars), but I always figured they were "giveaways" by the same folks who call looking for donations "to help your police department." I've always ignored the stickers as "ah, some shlub gave some money to get a sticker in hopes that when he gets stopped the sticker will let him get a warning not a ticket."
And I'm fine with helping my local police department, but I'm sure not going to do it by giving money through a telemarketer where 75+% of it is going to "administrative and fundraising expenses." Do I look like a sheep to be sheared?

I had a problem in the ward and delt with Rice a few times and he was very helpful. I told him I was the police and he spoke very highly of the police. I think we need to go after the gangbanging thugs who have FOP tags and not waste our time on a guy like him.

I don't think we're surprised to see that judges can still be bought by the Daley Crime Family, even after Operation Greylord in the '80s.
I'm sure the day the Greylord trials ended, Shortshanks operatives were busy buying and bribing a whole new circuit of judges.

Coached girls softball with John Rice at Hiawatha Park. Good Guy and very pro police. Used to work in the illegal conversion task force raiding the SRO houses that contained 45 immigrants with building and health inspectors. Then wrote up the owners. Took one off our block. Real helpful guy.
I created and designed a beautiful placard for myself. Gold city seal, lots of official signatures and a pretty high-end position with a title so imaginative the mayor himself probably thinks it's real. Meters-schmeters I say.
