Headquarters Rumor

Supposedly, every able bodied PO is about to be sent from HQ out to the severely understaffed Districts.

According to our count, this is the fourth time in two years we've heard this one. But we keep hoping.

All it is, is that all desk personel now have to go out on the street for a week a month. That is what the rumor is. But I thought according to J-Fed that our Districts are staffed and have enough personel.

And this will help us how? A bunch of house mouses on the street, scared of their own shadow. I still remember the "closed market" cars who would flag us down and tell us that the people on the corner they were assigned to watch may be selling drugs, and that we should do something about it. Useless bunch of empty uniforms, just secretaries with guns. It should be as it was, you need at least 20 to work inside or you got seriously injured or shot. Now we get people straight off field training working inside and staying inside. This department truly needs leadership from the ranks of the street copper. Inject some common sense into this department. Hey Sup why don't you try a little experiment, promote a career street cop to Commander of a District and see what happens.

Don't get your hopes up.
Rumor has it that each sworn Police Officer from HQ will only be sent out for just one week at a time. That's it. They're not being dumped or reassigned. Of course we know that there will still be those special officers with special priviliges who wont end up being part of this pool. My point? All of this shuffling may give the appearance that theres more police on the street, but in reality? Just another ploy for the bosses along with our news affairs to play semantics when it comes to giving Daley's media pals the actual or true number of policmen we have on the street.

if it works like it did last year, they pick one week a month to go out; but, they are allowed to use time due during that week, so.....talked to a sarge last year (he was detailed into that unit from 11 or 15, I think, with no notice) who had the hq folks working for him. He said he had nobody to supervise that day because they all took time due....

5/15/2009 08:58:00 AM

It'll be the same bullshit as it was before... a couple house mouse pussies who aren't the current boss' favorites have to go out for a week in "specially assigned" areas for "high visibility". That means going out to a shit district, letting the supervising sgt. (who also hides at HQ) see you on your "spot" and then disappear for the rest of the day.

None of these whimps will be handling jobs, guaranteed. Why? The excuse will be that these precious few can't be bogged down with court after their week is up, you know, they're too busy and all changing around a couple 5 year old powerpoints, changing the names at the top of their canned To/Froms, wasting time down in the gym, etc.

This is a sore topic for me. Had to go to the Medical section a few times this year for an IOD. And, what the hell is going on in HQ that the parking lot is jammed full of cars? I know some of those cars are dept. vehicles, but that only should take up a section or two. After driving around for a few minutes and hunted down a parking spot in the back corner, I wondered why they "needed" all those people at HQ?. I wondered what were their job requirements are. I wondered if this place is too overstaffed. I wondered if that place was on the up and up. I finally entered the lobby and as I stood looking at some the stars on the wall for a few minutes, I got a couple of strong wiffs of cigarette smoke. Staff getting paid to stand around and smoke cigarettes... That's a waste of man power, I thought. Then I saw the shucking and jiving at the round desk and noticed that there were younger personnel working that gig. Then I noticed that there are a lot of less tenured people moving about HQ. Unlike the old days when HQ was on 11th and State. All I gotta say is WTF? HQ needs to be legitimately cleaned out. Or am I beating a dead horse subject.

Hey SCC, does this sound familiar? "We regularly delete crap that paints everyone with a broad brush,". It sounds like this post. The officers in HQ that will be sent to the streets are the ones that directly support patrol. You're high if you think they are cutting 33% of the "policy group" for this initiative. Like good democrats, they'll cut 50% of the workers, add 25% admin and call it a 25% transfer to the street. I like working the street and have never had a problem finding the release on my holster. If they send me out, no problem, but when I start hearing the bitching about where the support is from HQ, I'll remind you that I'm right there with you.

Sorry but this is an urban myth. I have never worked inside in 25+ years, my choice and woopie do for me aren't I brave and tough. There were old and FNG's working inside when I came on. Most of use were glad they did it because we did not want too. There are many benefits to working the street that you don't get inside.I would also say these officers are not afraid they are just rusty. Quit measuring your manhood by where you work that is not the measure of a man. I worked in the second and 15th disricts with women that were smaller than my 9 year old son and they did what we all did. THE JOB!

The truth is alot of the officers in the "Bldg." are looking forward to getting away from the non-sense and being in a dist. The easiest thing in the world is working a beat car. You're your own boss and you can roll up the window and drive off from any job you want to (bet your fTO didn't teach you that yet, Jody). Back to the street is a vacation for most of them. The funniest part is, all the PO' and Sgt's out of 35th st are still a drop in the bucket for what's needed. The bosses know it's just smoke and mirrors.

No white shit or gold star will Intimidate me becuse I don't care about these animals. This job sucks and so do the bosses so when I don't do anything feel free to call me whatever you want, I'll just smile and wave. A superb idea that will no doubt be screwed up by giving the contract to some Daley crony w/o a clue as to how to do a proper BI.

In any case, the initial screening could no doubt be handled by an outside firm, even if the BI proper was still handled by the department.
