Officer Wounded - Offender Dead

Officer reportedly in good condition at Northwestern - his vest saved him serious injury:
  • A man was shot dead in the Loop and a Chicago police officer was wounded but saved by his bulletproof vest this afternoon, sources say.

A man in his 50s was transported from 190 N. State Street and was pronounced dead at 1:09 p.m. at Northwestern Memorial Hospital, according to a spokesman from the Cook County medical examiner's office.

The wounded cop was also taken to Northwestern but did not appear to be seriously injured, according to fire officials.

  • The suspect put a knife to a woman's neck and officers began chasing him, the officer said. A cop was wounded and then fired several times at the man, the officer at the scene said. Witnesses said they heard as many as four or five shots.

Bobby Polk said he turned to see a man holding "a butcher knife" to a woman's throat. As many as five police officers were pursuing him.

"The policeman shouted 'Stop, stop,' but he didn't and that's when [the officer] shot him," said Polk, 20.

From initial reports, it sounds as if the Officers involved did an excellent job. We are assuming that the wounded officer may have been stabbed or slashed in the vest. More info as it becomes available.

This was only a matter of time. 001 is definitely not busy like the hood, but it certainly has it's fair share of bust-outs, mentals, and shit-heads. The newly expanded Pacific Garden Mission sure brings a lot of winners to the neighborhood, not that the old one didn't, but this new one is huge. It's like Great America for pieces of worthless shit. Plenty of robberies just off the train lines too. Red Line or Green Line, take your pick. I'm curious to see who this goof was with the knife. Glad all Officers involved are ok.

I heard J-Fed's briefing about this and one of the media darlings seemed upset that with the police firing their guns downtown an innocent civilian could've been hit. If the two officers stand by and don't shoot while this nut starts hacking away at this woman with his knife then the same media would want to know why the police didn't do their job. It's a perfect example of the thankless job that we have. Damned if we do and damned if we don't.

Shots Fired At and By the Police!

Officer Stalked Right Up to His Garage Door...

A veteran officer who lives in the 10th District was returning home after working the third watch when he noticed he was being followed. He stopped pulling into his garage and started an around the block attempt to loose the stalkers described as 4 M/4s in a late model silver Pontiac. When he made a further attempt to loose them on a main street they tried to pass him, weapon exposed and shots were exchanged.

The officer was unhurt (Thank God) and was on his cell phone to 9-1-1 as he pulled up to the 10th District Station.

BE CAREFUL OUT THERE PEOPLE!

Maybe they knew he was the police, maybe they didn't.

Stay safe, go over your "what if" plans, check your weapons, your family instructions and your cell phone.

'could'nt they taze him, just wound him?' jeez this guy tried to kill someone in full view of the cops. as much as i don't like weiss, he defended the cops and told the media the cops did the right thing. if it had been one of them they would have screaming for us to shoot him.
bottom line the cops went home and the offender with a weapon went to the morgue.

Now if two FBI agents were there they would have retreated a safe distance, called for backup and FBI snipers and waited for the SAIC to come and tell them what to do. Then they would have gotten medals and promotions for not vomiting. The bust out would have been grabbed for suspected terrorist activities and thought to be part of an Al Qada cell. He would be sent to Guantanamo for two years of intensive questioning.

Channel 7 news report had ALL people interviewed saying the police told the guy to drop the knife numerous times while he had it up against the seniors' throat. He refused and the police shot him. Good shoot according to the witnesses.

Now the kicker: Chuck Goudie explains how he was in a meeting during the event which was right by the CH 7 studios. Of course Chuck would never actually go to the scene until it was safe, but when describing what happened, Chuck says "the police cut down the man." Cut down? An assassin cuts someone down. This asshole was about to cut someone down. The police didn't cut him down, they did their job which is to PROTECT the public.

Great job by those involved. Hope the officer is doing well. God bless the CPD. And Chuck, must be nice to hide in your cozy office and do nothing until the dust settles. You, sir, are scum.

At 1855 today in 024, a car called for help on an apparently violent domestic.

The first assist car comes on the scene and asks to be let in. The dispatcher calls for the original car with no answer. The dispatcher calls again. The backup car comes on the air and asks what to do.

Finally a Sergeant comes on the air and tells them to kick the door in if they have to.

What are they teaching these kids? 10-15 years ago that door would have been booted forthwith after the original car didn't answer after one bang.

Are the newbies that afraid of a CR number? I'd take a beef on a booted door in a heartbeat if another copper apparently needed help.

If he was first on the scene, why did he have to come up on the air to tell them to kick the door?

Those kids could have gotten someone hurt by their indecision on how to act.

I listened to the whole incident, quit making excuses and learn how to be a copper.

1700 arrests in 15 years and you "worked" in some of the worst spots in the city? you may have driven around in some of the worst spots in the city but i wouldnt call that work. not callin ya out, but you would think that a self proclaimed bad ass worker like yourself would have a little more arrests than that... but im sure all 1700 arrests were for guns, kilos and murders.. ok now i get it.

8/27/2009 10:58:00 PM

I didnt post the above message that this idiot is responding to but I will respond to his.............you are calling this guy out. As a matter of fact you're busting this guys balls. If you've worked in fast districts then what would your templet be for how many arrests this guy should have smartass? What's your arrest history then? and have you ever worked in a fast district? You my friend wouldnt know a kilo if it jumped up and slapped you in the face, murderer.........yeah, you might have "helped" a detective scoop a guy up that was later charged. And I believe you only have maybe at the most, 20 UUW arrest!? Sounds pretty accurate. Dont bust a guys balls thats a worker.

Gangsters don't shoot the guys they are with. If it was a hostage situation where was SWAT. And if his partner needed help kick and stomp the guy next time.

8/27/2009 11:09:00 PM

You may wear a star but you obviously are not the police! Come out from under your desk and see what real police do.

At no point was the offender sationary long enough for it to
be a SWAT job. As for stomping him look at the above sentence.

Next time some goof grabs a citizen and holds a knife to
their throat I hope it is a relative of yours. Then you can demand the police attempt to kick and stomp him and call SWAT; hoping that your relative survives.

The cops did a fantastic job. Threat to the victim was terminated with little collatoral damage.

Oh yea house mouse, you can go fuck yourself!

Off topic, but another WTF?

To all you new officers: Grow a set of balls and learn to think for yourselves.

Signed, an Old Fart who learnbed how to think for himself without having to ask a Supervisor

---------------------------------

slow down there you old mentally challenged fart. i had a similar situation. called for help and not even a minute later the door was being knocked in. it was a ppo and his partner with not more then 4 years on coming to help us...

I forget which of these media clowns was mugged not too long ago, not far from the studios...Find out who they were and ask them how they would prefer the police react should the day ever come that someone puts a knife to their throats..Chuck Goudie isnt worth a response, he was probably picked on in school and is a police hating coward. He couldnt carry my jockstrap. Punk!

Those useless contact cards are good for one thing..In 024 (the land of apartment buildings) fold up those cards and stick em in front of the locking mechanism so it won't engage thus insuring that your backup (if clueless/ball less whatever) can just open the door without having to make A DECISION!!! Number one problem (among us) is the fear some have for making a decision. Right or wrong strap on a pair and if you might do the wrong thing for the right reason (articulate circumstance) then no one (aside from media) has anything to say.

It was a deadly force situation so you respond with deadly force plain and simple. If that officer used the taser and missed then what? Or if the bum had some medical condition and died as a result of being tased then the liberals would be crying about taking away tasers because they're dangerous. Now the bums family where ever they are will be coming out of nowhere filing a law suit.

This is a good reason why we all need tasers. Pepper spray doesn't stop drunks. Hear this J-Fed?

The officer wasn't shot directly by the other officer. One of the bullets went through the man and then hit the officer in his vest. While he was standing behind him grabbing his arm with the weapon. Glad he is OK

When watching the news, I was astonished at the number of African-Americans citizens expressing support for the officers. I was impressed, as support for the police is not normally expressed by the African-American community. Then I learned the offender was Caucasian. Thus, all was clear to me. If the offender was not White, that support would not have been there because you do not come out against a brother. That is the street code. And, yes, you are correct. That is the undeniaable truth.
