Four teenagers were charged with felonies Wednesday night, accused of spray-painting graffiti on a memorial near Soldier Field honoring slain Chicago police officers and their families.
Police arrested two 17-year-old girls, an 18-year-old man and a 15-year-old boy, said Chicago News Affairs Officer Michael Fitzpatrick.
The teens were arrested at about 3:05 a.m. Wednesday after police on routine patrol saw them running from the Gold Star Families Memorial and Park, Fitzpatrick said.

Now I might advocate using these "youts" as mine detectors in Afghanistan, yet we are still a nation of laws. I think.
Sure, thinking up various ways to inflict pain on these critters is fun, but let's be realistic.
I think hard labor for a few months is adequate punishment. By hard I mean sweating in the sun type stuff. Think Paul Newman in Cool Hand Luke.
i wish there was a gd, lk, bpsn, gaylord(haha), svl, cvln, counts, mickey cobra, or any other type of worthless piece of shit memorial set up throughout the city.....i'd go take the biggest dump of my life on it...then get locked up and do a couple years for it....it be worth it...godspeed to all our fallen officers

Good news, you can. Just go to any alderman's office. Many are ex-bangers or like to hang with bangers.
I think the Memorial Foundation, the Department, and FLOP ought to publish the court dates so every officer possible can show up.
Where are their parents? They should pay the bill for the removal of the grafitti their teen age kids were responsible for doing and the youths should be given months of community service, "Removing Grafitti." To me, this is a slap in the face to all law enforcement officers across this country, not only Chicago.

I wouldn't advocate a crazy punishment for them but I wouldn't have too much sympathy for them because they knew if they were caught vandalizing the police memorial they were going to get f's.

When they set up their candles, 40 oz bottles, flowers, after one of the gangbangers gets what they got coming to them...throw all the shit away...just picking up some litter, you know, for the community and all.
They deserve the long hard probation that they will end up receiving.
Force these offenders (all of them-juvenile included) to attend the State, National, and Local memorial events next May wearing large signs that clearly display what they did. You can even let them design the banners themselves with their "taggin' artwork" as long as it says "I disrespected Police Memorials" on it somewhere. Let them stand there, each and every day for the entire event. This would allow all that attend to vent at these "youths".
Great job by the 001st district catching the first two assholes and the 009th district for searching for and locating the two that got away. It's nice to see that when we need to, we can still get along and work together.

Does this REALLY surprize anybody, with the everyday acts of total disrespect shown towards Police Officers by the department, wanna-be supervisors, city officials and citizens.
Of course some cowards [probably wanting to make their bones with cop-watch] desecrate a memorial to men and women who had the courage they will never know.
Great job by the Officers who were on patrol. They saw something that struck them as suspicious and checked it out, which resulted in four arrest of our future leaders.

The name of the 15-year-old boy cited as a juvenile was not released.

This would show the court system that it is suppose to enforce the law and give a worthy punishment as opposed to a suspended sentence. Don't tell me, the juveniles arrested "snuck out of the house without mama knowing" right. They should be made to clean the memorial, with Q-Tips and pipe cleaners, eight hours a day, seven days a week, until not a single speck of paint remains, no matter how long it takes to pass SCC's inspection.

Seriously, find out when their court dates are, I know a number of civilians and retired folk that would attend, and lets hope the judge sentences these four teenagers to something creative, I think their local police district needs cleaning with a toothbrush for the next 100+ hours!

You're right: 3000 W 31st (at Sacramento) is all industrial/commercial. I suspect that the address was garbled - she probably lives at 3000 something near 31st, just like the other two.
This is a little weird - white kids from Bridgeport (two of three named, assuming that address was garbled) sticking to the police? The Hispanic is from Bridgeport too. I always thought Bridgeport had a lot of cop families.

But, defacing a memorial, any type memorial including headstones should carry a stiffer penalty than spray painting a garage
This type of situation warrants a tough penalty including cleaning up the damage ( under court appointed supervision) and then many hours of community service and mandatory education about what being a hero really is

an appropriate response would be to allow gold star family members the opportunity to go and spray paint whatever they wanted all over the offender's residences.... if it were one of my kids who did this they would not see the light of day for years and would wish they were never born....
