Shots Fired at Off Duty PO

Disturbing report:
  • SCC-
Car full of bangers (possibly Latin Kings) followed a PO home last night, pulled up next to him and opened up fire. Thank God that they missed (two inches from PO's head) and the PO was able to return fire. If it is true that it took 10 minutes for OEMC to dispatch this, someone needs to be fired. the offenders escaped and no has been able to locate them or the shot up vehicle. This was not in the paper or on the news, but there needs to be more exposure. That is very bold of the bangers. Everyone needs to be aware of their surroundings. It is unknown if they targeted the PO or if it was just random.
Is this the same incident?
  • 1013's Job at approx 03:00. Zone 10dispatcher is sleeping and doesn't dispatch a 10-1 for 7 minutes. A 10-1 is an immediate dispatch. 7 minutes is not immediately. Nice job dispatcher. Glad the officer didn't get killed due to your inattention to duty. This guy should be fired. I bet the city doesn't even reprimand him. Aren't the 911 supervisors supposed to monitor these dispatchers so that this doesn't happen?
Someone want to find the full story?

PUT IT OUT THERE...
ANYONE WORKING IN ZONE 10 KNOWS WHAT DISPATCHER(S) DIDN'T SIMULCAST A 10-1 FOR OVER 7 MINS?
GET THE GOOF DISPATCHER OFF THE ZONE...

WAS IT THE B-TCH WHO LIKES TO ARGUE ON THE ZONE WITH EVERYONE? AND HAS A BAD ATTITUDE.

Couldn't be, different watch and besides, everyone knows this wouldn't have happened with M.L. dispatching, she is God's gift to dispatchers don't you know. Thats why when she is dispatching, she doesn't give up the mic for more than a few minutes, it is her life.

A week or so ago a PO came over zone 10 and asked that a car be dispatched for his wife (a cook county sheriff). She was at 35/western and a hispanic male and female shot at her car. I've asked a couple sheriffs about it but nobody seems to have heard about it.

Just an "Occupational Hazard" if you're not smart enough to fly below the radar these days, SCC. And living pretty much anywhere in 010 doesn't help things either. Don't get me wrong, I'm thankful that the copper is OK, but I'd bet my next 3 month's checks that there's more to this story than is being disseminated here. I'd list several examples of probable scenarios, but I won't provide fodder for the masses/media by doing so in this forum. Either way, I hope every copper that hears about this walks away with a little more knowledge/vigilance, so that we don't have to bury another of our own.

And before I forget. That dispatcher needs his/her ass beat...and badly.

os the same jpn and just to be clear our regular dispatchers lupe and lina were not on the mike. it was an idiot that was covering their break and after beinh asked by 1099 if there was a call, he couldnt even confirm and was slow to answer. he was takin a long time to answer to other calls as well. 71c charlie tried to get the dispatcher to give out description but dispatcher would not acknowledge. again, this guy was not our regular dispatcher. luoe and line ALWAYS take care of us, this idiot was very slow in all responses.

I still feel making civilans dispatchers is very dangerous. I came on the job when ONLY sworn police were dispatching. Think about, it's simple. Sworn officers have been on the street and been through the academy. They know what's out there and know how and when to handle calls. When I was on Zone 8 the dispatcher knew you by voice and what you were capable of. The dispatchers knew the district, the streets, the caller (the habituals), the history of certain areas, knew what happen the day before or a month ago at certain locations. They were our life line. Now, you are out on your own. I called 911 (off duty) regarding a crowd of (20-30) teens on school property at 0200 hours. After 15 calls to 911 and ID myself as a PO, the dispatcher told me "you're the police - handle it." And you wonder why there is lack of respect to working PO. Be very very careful out there. The dispatchers are not your friends, they are just paid employees of the city. They have no interest in you going home safely.

LAWSUIT, LAWSUIT, LAWSUIT

Fuck you daley and fuck you oemc

Lawsuit against the dispatcher for Punitive Damages because his Civil Right to equal protection was violated

Zone 12 dispatcher held a job of armed robbery in progress few months back, only after an alert 025 District Sgt ordered her to put it over the air, was it dispatched. Does the family of the dead store owner realize how fucked up the system is?

how in the world does a 10-1 not go out for 7 minutes?

People who are presumably aware of the 10-1 include the dispatcher, the call-taker, and the dispatcher's partner.

Is it possible it wasn't written up as a 10-1? If it came across as a 10-1 and wasn't dispatched immediately (i.e., literally immediately), somebody at the very least has some explaining to do.

I'll be very surprised if it is one of the old regulars from zone 10, first watch. Those guys and girls were always very good.

Cops quell gang melee on Northwest Side

Chicago police quelled a large gang fight on a busy Northwest Side street early this morning.

Police were called to the area of the 5400 block of West Irving Park Road in the Portage Park neighborhood about 1:30 a.m. because of a "large gang fight," said Chicago Police News Affairs Officer David Banks. There were no major injuries.

The fighting started at a birthday party at a nightclub across the street from Portage Park and soon spilled out onto neighboring streets, police said.

"Various factions" that were attending the party got into a dispute and the fighting spilled out onto neighboring streets, with rocks and bottles thrown, a police source said.

Officers in as many as 40 squad cars responded to the fighting at one point.

One person was treated and released from an area hospital, and no police officers were injured, Banks said.

One person was arrested on an unrelated marijuana charge, police said.

The fighting ended and police were doing "minor housekeeping" work by about 2 a.m., Banks said.

Yes the incident of the ODPO is seperate from the shooting in 008. The ODPO who was shot at was in 010and the lazy dispatcher was sleeping and didn't give out the job because HE wasn't paying attention. Lazy useless piece of trash shouldn't be a dispatcher. Hell he's not even qualified to be the guy who walks behind the horses and picks up their sh**. He should be fired. The 2 dispatchers from Durkin park incident took 30 days, he should take longer. 911 supervisors should all be disciplined also. I hear there's a giant screen on the wall that shows priority jobs that aren't dispatched. Where were the supervisors when this happened. I see all this being swept under the rug. Nothing to see here folks. Move along.

8/28/2009 03:04:00 AM

I called 911 the other night for a gang disturbance in 016. The call taker sounded like a F/1 and give the name "Buckner" in her greeting. I then described the gang disturbance in detail giving information that I would want if I was the car responding to said disturbance. I then gave her my name and told her that I did not want to be anonymous.
After hanging up with 911, I went and got my scanner radio and monitored Zone1 for 50 minutes until the job was dispatched (zone was relatively quiet, some i/p jobs, but certainly not busy). Not only was I enraged at the time it took to dispatch the call, the description given by the dispatcher was complete garbage. None of the info that I gave was included. All that was said was "16xx... you got a disturbance, its from anonymous."
So the next day checked the pcad to see what the exact narrative of my call was, and of course, it was completely generic...by anonymous, and was given a 5B (which was appropriate because they were gone at the time of p/o's arrival)

It's no fault of the responding 016th district car, or the dispatcher... but I am soooo completely disgusted with the call takers at 911.

And yeah I'm gonna be "anonymous" for this post. mike masters might be reading this.

the dispatchers have no real supervision. They go wake up a "manager" when you give them heck for not doing their jobs and the manager calls to say leave the dispatcher alone.(which of course won't happen) Any street supervisor should be monitoring pending jobs and keeping the dispatchers on their toes. The sgt/lt/capt is the supervisor on the street. The dispatcher MUST listen to them even thought they think they don't have to. They DO.

This is the number one reason the F.O.P. should be arguing that police officers should NOT HAVE A RESIDENCY REQUIREMENT!!! Sure the bangers could have followed the officer out of the city. But a residency requirement just increases the chances of one of us running into the shitbag we locked up while we are NOT at work or worse, out with our family. The City would probably also be able to justify not allowing other city agencies the same non residency requirement with a judge or arbitrator when the other agencies try to apply the bullshit "me too" clauses. Instead it's gonna take some copper and his/her family getting hurt during a confrontation for logic to be applied.

Anyone can file a CR# on that dispatcher. Inattention to duty I think would work. Until people do this sort of thing, it won't stop and there won't be any accountability. There are some great dispatchers (Karen, Paula, Torres to name a few) and some horrible (too many to mention), make the bad ones accountable for their inaction. This a life and death situation that was bad enough but could be alot worse!

Today at 47th and Cicero (008) an unmarked squad was "stolen" and fled north into Cicero with blue lights on and soon located north of Roosevelt on the 015 side. That was kinda funny. No so funny was the officer from whom the squad car taken from was hurt.

One, hope the PO is ok.
Two, no damage to squad seen.
Three, no one "trying to locate" the squad was hurt, crashed, or caused a crash.

Its nothing new the other day I saw a reputable L.K piece of shit GANG-BANGER stuffing something chrome in his waist pants as he walked away he kept holding the heavy weight with his right hand I called 911 immediately giving full description (clothing possible age) location: neighborhood corner store which is often used as hide out and the name of the store.
She asked me the name of the store which I said it three times, even referred it to a well knowing low end shoe store. Then she proceeded asking me to spell it for her at that point I got so pissed off that I requested for a supervisor, once this fucking IDIOT got on the phone I explained how incompetent the 911 dispatcher was and he said: Well I already listened to your conversation denying that I never mentioned the name of the store, at that point I knew I was talking to the fuc@#$%g wall.
I went off on him and telling him to go back and analyzed the call because I said the name three times and his response was well, I only listened part of it.
My question is why this MOTHER FU$%^ER is arguing with me in the first place if he did not listen to the whole conversation on top of it, he got the balls to tell me even if I was right that he was not going to reprimand the call taker. I responded if this SCUMBAG ending shooting someone is all on you!
Im glad that we are paying a 911 fees in our monthly bills for these M>F to sit on their FAT-ASS eating flaming hot cheetos –joking and laughing their ass all day

This is not the first PO this has happened to and it want be the last. I know personally of several off duty PO's who have encountered problems with gangbanger off duty, while in uniform. I was one of the PO's. Hispanic gangbanger pull up next to me in traffic and all began to look into my car as to get my attention, which they did. Then they began to talk shit about what are you doing in our hood. I guess they knew I didn't live there because I not hispanic. I knew thing were going to go to bad really fast then I announced my office and revealed my uniform shirt while reaching for my weapon. I was lucky that night that they just pulled off. These guys are like wild animals constantly looking for prey and they don't discriminate. They are looking to harm anyone they can so that they can get a laugh. CNN did a story a couple weeks ago on the hispanic gangs around 26th st. One banger said that it's like getting high to be shot at and a adrenaline rush to shoot someone. Just be careful and carry your weapon where you have immediate access.

THERE IS A BOSS WHO HANDLES ALL OEMC COMPLAINTS AND HE CAN BRING UP ANY CONVERSATION IN QUESTION WITH A FEW CLICKS OF THE COMPUTER KEYBOARD. ODPO noticed the car behind him when he pulled into his alley. He lives in two-six territory. Just an hour before, a king was shot by a two-six. More than likely, kings in the area to retaliate, ODPO has cover over his uniform & no fop medallion. Offender gets off 2 shots, ODPO returns 5. Offending vehicle found & watched yesterday. Person of interest being interviewed & talking- apparently thus far unbeknownst their target was ODPO.

The officer and the FOP need to DEMAND it.
The inaction of this dispatcher to a 10-1 call of an officer needing IMMEDIATE assistance is UNACCEPTABLE.

Where are the supervisors? They need to be disciplined.

Years ago I was involved in a similar off duty incident. After I at first blamed the dispatcher it turned out that it was the call taker who was at fault.

Never used to be any trouble at that place. Well-behaved, never any problems or calls.
Now, what do you think could have changed?

A dispatcher once hung up on me because I was using urgency in my tone, I was in between Chicago and Franklin and Chicago and Wells when a homeless man was swinging a piece of wood with a nail on one end (cliche, I know) at women outside a bar, a big Polish guy started challenging "Barry Bonds" to swing at him, when some lady requested I call the police (I really don't usually but I figured I wasn't going to get anyone innocent or petty locked up). I call dispatch and after I yelled at her saying that I didn't know the exact fucking address, she hung up, I called back, got the same person, told them fuck you and an address. Basically, I hope I never need to use the police because dispatch will fuck it up. I could tell you the time where I got hit in the head with a bottle by some Latin Kings when I was 15 and the cops didn't quite have an interest in my situation, but this obviously isn't the place. I don't agree with yous guys, but don't want anyone getting shot in the world. Peace, literally.

The worst thing the department ever did was take P.O's out of dispatch. These civilians could care less and know about the streets even less. After I had 23yrs on the job I had an IOD and found myself assigned to 311 for awhile. While there I received a call forwarded from 911 which the brain surgeon dispatcher thought was not an emergency. The caller was an eight year old boy who was screaming that he was home with his sister who was fifteen and a man was trying to break into their house. I was trying to calm the boy down and at the same time on my consel brought 911 back on line. I told the dispatcher I could not believe they dropped this type of call over. I gave my name and star and told the dispatcher I was staying on the line until I heard the Police in the house. She told me that wasn't neccesary which I responded yes it is. Since I was talking to the boy and trying to get as much info as I could she finally dispatched a car. I also had to remind her that my console was also tapping this distress call. The police arrived and was able to arrest the offender. Thank god the kids weren't hurt. I than hung up with the victim's and asked the dispatcher for her name and employee number since they don't have star numbers. I hung up with her and then called a 911 supervisor. At least he didn't deny anything but I'm sure he did not address this the way we would have.

I do agree that the dispatchers of today are a lot worst then back in the days when it was real PO's doing it. They had the knowledge from being on the streets to know what was going on in the zones that they worked. But if the police were to still be doing it today it wouldn't be no different then having civilians doing it. They would have a bunch of clout babies doing it that were never on the street as they have run out of desk jobs to givre to them. So they still would be a lot of horse shit dispatchers doing to calls.

Be mindful...

we were informed some years ago that during their orientation/training, OEMC civilian dispatchers were told that they're in charge not the P/O that's out there in the middle of/on-viewing/up to their eyeballs in the b.s.

we vaguely remember monitoring some craziness in 009 shortly after COS was moved to Madison St. A couple of P.O's drove there to have a chat regarding the aforementioned mindset. Uproar on the floor because the Police were chasing a dispatcher around. Private security on the door was pulled (digby if we remember so no great loss) and a P.O. was posted... Not to make the occupants fell safe but to keep p/o'd coppers from getting up on the floor.

It seems not much has changed over the years.

Stay safe, take care of each other, carry at minumum 2 of at least .40 cal and remember the most important of the Rules of Gunfighting, (as adapted for CPD)

"...be courteous & professional but have a plan to kill everyone you encounter if need be."

There's no excuse for a call going out late, especially a 10-1. I've had to call 911 a handful of times and been disappointed. There is always room for improvement, and there are always dogs working in positions they have no right holding. However, the whole "I'm a PO and you're a civilian" thing is getting out of hand.

Yeah we know. All civilians working in positions that were once occupied by police are pieces of shit. I'm a detention aide and I get called names all the time. Maybe the next time he mouths off the the wrong guy, I'll remember my place and just step aside and let the big-bad sworn police officer handle things. You think I'm a dog, maybe I'll act like one.

We also know that no POs make mistakes, or are not dogs, or not gang members, or not hired by clout, or not related to bosses or alderman, or not protected when they step on their dicks, or not shown preference in promotions, or are not mentally unstable, or not thieves, or not drunks, or not drug addicts, or not violent, etc, etc.

Yep, you're all just perfect.

It's not my fault that the city hires civilians. Should I feel bad because I took a job POs look down upon? Yeah, I'm really sorry I'm trying to support my family. I'll just quit because I'm inferior to some sociopath that was smart enough to fool the psych evaluation and their investigator and gets a badge and gun. Second of all, we do get drug tested for whoever was inquiring. Unfortunately some of the people getting hired at the OEMC know someone or are related to someone who is a PO. Which brings me to the this point.........the dispatcher in question is the SON OF A CPD SGT.

Third of all, most of the dispatchers do worry about officer safety and are pissed the fuck off that this asshole in question still has a fucking job. He's the type of dispatcher who gives the rest of us a bad name.

I personally think a fuck up of this magnitude deserves automatic termination.

Couldn't have said it better myself.

Guess I've just been a "civilian piece of shit" when I've been on the zone & gotten P.O.'s help when they yelled out for help with their REGULAR beat numbers, having forgotten they were on different cars those days...but I knew their voices & where I'd sent them on jobs (or where they'd said they were down).

Or the times P.O.'s didn't know where the hell they were but I took clues & got them help anyway.

Or the times P.O.'s couldn't get out a location or a beat number...all they could get out was "Get some cars over here, squad." And I managed, in spite of not being the "real police."

There's NO profession in which there aren't plenty of fuck-ups & other assorted people who have no business being in that profession. And everyone makes mistakes. Granted, the severity of this incident could have cost a P.O. life or life-threatening injury, there's no denying that, and no defending 7 minutes on a 10-1. But that action (or inaction) isn't typical of every dispatcher or calltaker at OEMC.

Just like the actions of Abbate, a few wayward former-S.O.S. P.O.'s, the Austin Seven, Miedzianowski, and others, aren't typical of every police officer to ever wear the uniform, and it's offensive when civilians take the actions of some & accuse you ALL of being dirty, lazy, abusive of power, etc...not exactly accurate to paint all dispatchers with the same brush.

And some dispatchers ARE sworn police.

Dispatchers should be retired or active police, PERIOD! You want to make a positive change Mayor Daley, do that! They know what is needed, can help when the police are screwing up becuase they can spot it, they take into consideraton danger and risk factors, know how to pay attention to correspondence and spot a potential threat, can help with decisons on call dispatch and most importantly, when the shit hits the fan, they have the calm, nerve and knowledge to immediately address it!

The issue isn't that the calltakers and dispatchers are civilians (heck, other cities have been doing that for decades. Talk to LA and NY). The issue is that they're hiring incompetent morons. Some family of police, some politicians picks.

You can, and should, call the watch manager and initiate a beef ASAP after an incident in which you legitimately believe the screwed up. But remember, even the best dispatchers have a bad day.

The usual crew 1st Watch Zone 10 Dispatchers,...Lupe, Lyna and Kim were not working. They are the best, I trust them with my life every night and this is from someone who was very skeptical about civilian dispatchers.

Perhaps a possible technical upgrade should be considered so this does not happen in the future. We all hear our dispatchers ask if there is anything wrong if we hit (always by accident) our emergency button on our PDTs. That's because the dispatcher's screen goes blank and presents the Emergency Message.

Shouldn't there be something similar for a phone-in 10-1. The screen goes to that message only AND an alarm sounds in the dispatcher's earphone. If it is not silenced in 3 seconds it sounds on the control panel, in 3 more seconds if not silenced the whole room gets bells and whistles and maybe a tone over the radio and, "What the hell is..." from the supervisors.

Just a thought, to keep us safe out there. We could say we need this for the Olympics.

SFPD copper here- I too have had my share of dispatchers and call takers who seemingly either take offense at the urgency you're trying to convey or act like you're wasting their time. But they are in the minority, and if I have a problem with one of them I am usually not alone in my anger. "10-1" out here means your radio is receiving or transmitting poorly, we would say "Code 3" for an emergency response to a situation. I'm happy to to hear the officer who was followed home and fired upon managed to return fire and not get injured. When I go off duty I always carry my duty weapon on me in a "slide" holster and once in my personal vehicle, I put it under my left thigh. Luckily I've never had a situation but I remain wary that it can happen anytime, anywhere. Stay safe everyone.

Wit the exception of a few most Dispatchers are fucking useless. I recall not to long ago trying to call in a stop and the dispatcher ignoring me because she had disturbances to hand out. I've also heard these hunks of shit telling people that LEADS is down so that they don't have to run names.

The Police are being targeted more every year. There has been an increase of felons being paroled from prison targeting the officer who put them in prison. There has also been an increase of Armed Robberies where the Police are the victims. Gangs are targeting the Police, knowing they are the Police and attempting to Rob them of their guns and stars. Shootings have also increased where the Police are the intended targets. Just remember brothers and sisters in blue, the job will nail you if you are involved in a shooting and the weapons you use (usually off-duty incidents) wasn’t the weapon you qualified with. This is fact, not blog B/S. STAY SAFE AND GOD BLESS YOU AND YOU’R FAMILIES

I work in 011 and Zone 10 REGULAR dispatchers on midnights are the best. I know for a fact that the regular 2 dispatchers would never hold a 10-1. Can't say to much about those that replace them for their breaks, but L and L are the best 2 damned dispatchers this city has and if you don't answer your radio on a call they have a habit of calling you on your cell to make sure all is well. So before you Bitch about the dispatchers take it out on the call takers they (dispatchers) get the jobs from them, then to us. Anyone who works nights on zone 10 know we have the best regular dispatchers in the city.

It was on CBS tonight . The pictures of the four in custody were featured fir about 5 seconds. All charged with Attempted murder of a police officer. They also stated the ODPO was followed home.

I got the following tips for you:

1 never take the same route home
2 avoid working in the beat you live In
3 never park your vehicle on the street in front of your
Residence - use garage or driveway

and finally:

I personally never drive vehicles driven by any family member of mine unless it's a family event. I also avoid taking any vehicles but mine to work.

Why do I do all that:

My phone lines to my own house were cut twice, two attempted Burglaries, one criminal damage to property report. And that's within the last four years. After all that s I had to move from my first house for my family's safety.

I say be careful , I've written letters regarding the removal of this residency rule with the many documentations attached..it's probably was never read anyway... we need to petition such restrictions and our DEAR FOP better start listening. You just can't be the police anymore in this city.

HOLDING A 10-1 TICKET FOR 7 MINUTES WAS A MAJOR F-UP ON THE DISPATCHER'S END, BUT IN ALL FAIRNESS WE CANT GROUP ALL THE DISPATCHERS TOGETHER IN ONE BUNCH. I HAVE WORKED ON THE FORCE FOR OVER 20 YRS AND THERE ARE SOME VERY GOOD DISPATCHERS OUT THERE....(ZONE 8 9 5 3RD WATCH TO NAME A FEW.) HELP HAS ALWAYS BEEN SENT MY WAY - AND A FEW GO ABOVE AND BEYOND OFFICER SAFETY. A COUPLE OF BAD APPLES SHOULD NOT SPOIL THE TASTE WE HAVE FOR THE REST. YES IT IS A SHAME THAT THIS HAPPENED BUT LETS NOT FORGET ABOUT THE GOOD JOBS THEY HAVE DONE. U (MY FELLOW OFFICERS ) DONT LIKE IT WHEN WE ARE ALL BUNCHED TOGETHER BECAUSE OF A COUPLE OF BAD OFFICERS SO LETS BE FAIR. THE DISPATCHER INVOLVED IN THIS SAD CASE SHOULD BE THE TARGET NOT EVERYONE ELSE.

I agree with the residency issue. That needs to be looked at again for officer safety.

Officers & Dispatchers need to not be divided right now.
As a fellow officer I can say that I've had my share of good & bad dispatchers - just like they have had their share of good & bad officers. I currently work 3rd watch and have been on many zone including citywide and they do a decent job to me. I remember a time I was working in 006 and got into a foot pursuit- the dispatcher got me help and did a great job. Same thing happened in 013 and in 025............I had emergencies and they all did well. Different watch different people but i can say that i've had no problem with 3rd watch

Back to Portage Park for a second. 40 police cars were at a supposed gang brawl and there was one arrest for weed? I don't understand why the responding cops are not being taken to task for that on here.

It sounds like the "gang" brawl was really a bar fight, and not much of one at that. Can any of the cops (who actually know) comment on that?

Some thoughts on the matter ....
Basic Procedure for a 10-1 coming in on phones at OEMC:
#1.Call taker gets the initial 10-1 & immediately sends over to zone as "Details to Follow" & hits that trusty red light (getting address/name/star #/weapons/descriptions-as much as possible).
#2.Supervisor walks over, responding t red light, in a timely fashion & is notified of 10-1
#3.Dispatcher immediately dispatches the 10-1 on the zone.
What happened to these steps?? If they were all followed then the call taker would have seen the 10-1 was not dispatched immediately & the Supervisor who was notified would have been standing at the zone making sure the 10-1 was dispatched immediately & the officer was ok. That is their job! Not only should the dispatcher who dropped the ball be held accountable, but so should the Supervisor who was notified! And.... call takers, if there is an important job you see that is not getting dispatched, do not be afraid to walk over & let a dispatcher know immediately! Another note-> Why weren't the Supervisors paying attention to the JUMBO screen that displays all the jobs pending in the entire city- that hangs on the wall across from the Supervisor's station? They are paid to pay attention to this!!! If they were doing their jobs, then someone would have seen the 10-1 sitting there for 6+ minutes. Maybe all the Supervisors working that night should be held accountable??
Yes, you guessed it... I am a dispatcher & I am ashamed at the inactions of this dispatcher. But please know, there are a lot of us up there that give 110% to the job we do because we enjoy it & because we care about you all getting home safe & sound to your families. A lot of dispatchers/call takers up there DO have CPD in their families, mostly spouses, but that is due to working together...that being said, that motivates a lot of dispatchers to be extra safe & knowledgeable of their zones because they understand even more, it touches home. Let's keep the focus here, it was 1 bad dispatcher AND lack of proper communication from Call taker/Supervisor to Zone. It was not the Dispatchers as a whole. And, one last thing to leave you with ... you can ask anyone around you, there are more awful dispatchers up there besides that 1, I am sorry to admit that, but it's the truth... so, if you have good regular dispatchers-let them know! Give them a thanks once in a while & definitely appreciate them... cause the minute they leave & you get stuck with garbage, you WILL notice the difference. (and I am pretty sure the good dispatchers thank the hard working cars over the air every once in a while, especially when they have them running from 1 end of the district to the other ALL night....and if your dispatcher hasn't told you, I will: Thank you to all the hard working police out there. And to the officer who was the target of this whole situation: I am very sorry all this took place and am glad you are OK!

Here's the real problem at the oemc, the last 4 classes of dispatchers( including the one who screwed up) are arragont and think they know everthing about dispatching when they really know nothing. Also the oemc admistration is more concerned about call takers and dispatchers bringing bags and purses to there consoles instead of replacing the aging equipment that dosent work well, Good luck out there, you really need it

Instead of, dogging 9-1-1. Can you guys just worry about how you do your damn jobs, you guys 19p shit before you even get to the scence of a job. "do your damn job" stop being so damn lazy all the time. You say, we're stuip down at 9-1-1 but, you call us non stop, asking us shit you should have learned in training. We work very hard @ 9-1-1 and I don't appreciate you guys, who are so perfect & never make any mistakes dogg the entire building based on the actions of 1 or 2 people. People call us asking help because their home was broken into, you drive your ass by issuse a ticket w/o checking the property that was broken into, what the "Hell" is that about. Instead of, dogging us off we need to be working together. The citzens of Chicago are against us, the news is against us. So, why do we have to see this BS on here. Get a life & do your job and let us worry about 9-1-1 center. Now what?
