Several investigations are under way into allegations that an off-duty Chicago police officer beat a CTA bus driver aboard his downtown bus Saturday.
The officer accused the driver of cutting him off in traffic as he rode a bicycle on a Loop street, officials said.
Officials from the driver's union said they have viewed a videotape from the bus camera that recorded the beating. "This guy, without any provocation that we can see on tape, assaulted our bus driver," said Darrell Jefferson, president of Amalgamated Transit Union Local 241, who did not see the tape but was briefed about it. "He punched him several times. Then he got off the bus, came back on the bus and punched him a couple more times."

We have no idea what transpired in regard to how the bus operator was driving but it was apparently in such a manner to set this officer off. Probably a near miss or an actual "clipping" incident. On it's face the P.O. did himself no favors... that's why you have CTA supervisors and if you derive no satisfaction from the supervisor then contact CTA O.I.G.

While I can't justify this guys actions (assuming he is guilty), I have had buses almost strike me while riding my bike and driving my car several times. The title Patrolman was killed by the gods of Political Correctness about 5 years ago. The accused does not carry the title of "Police Officer" or "Police Officer as...."

I wouldn't want to drive a bus around in this ghetto haven. Like us, bus drivers have to put up with a lot of shit, but they don't get the satisfaction of hauling their assholes off to jail. I don't wish bad on them because they take up too much space or they don't drive as good as I would like.

I've been walking and riding a bike in this town for almost half a century. There are exactly 2 rules of the road:
1. You're invisible.
2. Everyone else on the road is blind, and stupid.
Sure, I've taken plenty of chances with motor vehicles. But anyone with any street sense at all knows that you never, ever take chances with a CTA bus. Those buses are huge, and those drivers don't care.
Cut off by a CTA bus? Welcome to Chicago. Nothing worth losing your temper, or your job, over.
If he really is a sgt. with a history of anger problems, I'd cut him some slack. Police officers have a logical excuse for anger problems, and should get counseled, not fired. But once it hits the papers, he's probably finished.
Why didn't he just take the small hit into half gainer dive? After being treated and getting an rd number and court date he would have been making an appointmet to see his lawyer while nursing his wounds at home.

how bout picking up a phone for crist sakes
Good for the P.O some of these steam roller drivers are bunch ass-wipes I encountered same situation few months back.
I was driving my one y.o kid to the baby sitter when one one these overtime WHORES cut me off forcing me to drive on the opposite traffic lanes, fortunately the opposite upcoming traffic was waiting for the green light otherwise don't know what could had happened, specially when my kid was on board.
Immediately called 311 and they connected to the CTA complaints line,I spoke to a supposedly supervisor giving full details of the incident( the bus route and number)as well a light description of the driver (ethnicity and approx. age) He also told that someone was going to contact me as a result of my call, telling me that these type of infractions are taken very serious.
Well, guess what? I'm still waiting for that PRICK to call me back!
I'm pretty sure they cover each other ASS specially when it seems like everyone who works there are either related or best friends
