Chalkie in Kass Column Again

Perhaps Chalkie's last appearance as an Olympic mascot:
  • The T-shirt racket has been on my mind ever since "Chalkie 2016" became wildly popular. As you know, Chalkie became the unofficial mascot of the anti-Chicago Olympic movement. He was featured on a T-shirt that drew the wrath of City Hall.

Chalkie is a hypothetical, chalk-outline homicide victim. He would have held his chalk-outline Olympic torch high, though he's most comfortable sprawled dead on the ground, his tiny legs akimbo.

Chalkie would have been easy to blame for losing the Olympics. But Chalkie can't accept blame. He has no lips with which to speak and say, "I'm sorry."

So if we can't blame Chalkie, I'll take the heat for trying to play it both ways.
Hopefully, the spirit lives on.

Since the "Chalkie 2016" tour is winding down, we hope to see a sequel - "The Chalkie and Shortshanks' Political Career Movie." Take the kids. It's rumored to be in 3-D.

I don't like our mayor and I didn't want the Olympics here. But some of you should try reading the Olympic coverage by those who actually - well, cover - the Olympics and sports for a living. The failure to bring the Games here has nothing to do with Chicago's crime rate, corruption, Daley, the Obamas or the opinion of John Kass. Of course, when Kass is busy gloating he apparently becomes so myopic that he is unable to clearly articulate - except to those who already agree with everything he says. Yes, I am a cop. Yes, Mayor Daley has to go. But as far as this loss goes, the mayor has nothing to be ashamed of.

Let's put the nail in Shortshanks coffin. Everyone meet downtown on Wednesday and tell him he's through and how could he have so heavily invested all of our City's liquidity? What kind of accounting does the Chicago 2016 organization have? What do you figure those light blue jackets the delegation wore in Copenhagen? Flyers, banners, stationery, offices....it seems their budget was endless. Have one of these so-called "investigative reporters" file a FOIA request to have them open their books. WE PAID FOR IT.....let's see how much.

I'll bet they're burning the midnight oil shredding documents at Joyce Construction, Kenny Construction or one of the other "hooked up" heavy hitter firms that were licking their chops awaiting the Olympic ca$h.

His reign is OVER. If he had any balls he'd step down now... but even if he did, it'd be another DemocRAT politician that'll just treat us as poorly as King Richard II has.

The World sees what a weak, corrupt criminal Daley is. Meet downtown Wednesday and let him know we aren't gonna take it anymore! Bring someone with you. Call your friends in the CFD, Streets and San, CTA and the Teachers Union. Let's make it a day we'll talk about even AFTER 2016!!!

a funny recount of the mess that was the Atlanta Games....Ghost of Christmas Missed for Chicago??

Rio over Chicago for the 2016 Olympics

"On my first night at the [1996 Atlanta] Olympics, the bus driver taking me and about 35 other people back to our cars got lost. Our half-hour trip took 1 1/2 hours, and we joked that we got the "scenic route." On my second night, another bus driver prepared to get on the wrong highway until a chorus of Atlanta natives on the bus yelled in unison, directing him to the correct road.

"Imagine" was the correct slogan for Chicago.

http://crabbygolightly.com/mt/2009/10/olympic_loss_delivers_daley_comeuppance_on_a_plate.html

In what was surely the most ironic of reactions, Australia IOC member Kevan Gosper said of the city's first-round loss, "The whole thing doesn't make sense other there has been a stupid bloc vote." Which sounds an awful lot like the power displayed by Daley when the Chicago City Council voted 49-0 making city residents responsible for Olympic cost overruns.

Many viewed the games as Daley's last chance at staving off financial disaster for Chicago, in part caused by an entrenched system of clout that inflates the cost of government business.

"Without this pot of gold, there aren't many sources of revenue left to continue to fund his minions and cover up past failures,'' commented Lview G. on Chicagobusiness.com.

For seething residents sick of being overtaxed and overticketed, the loss was a welcome wrench toss in the political machine.

"For all the people that will pin this on Obama, hear this from a Chicagoan,'' wrote Frank Chow on his blog. " This was Mayor Daley's Olympics. The Daleympics was his last attempt to distract Chicago from his corruption, the parking meters, the violence and his mishandling of the government.

Some of us are gleeful that his tactic didn't work.

ALL CITIZENS OF CHICAGO should show up on Wednesday 07 Oct @ 10 am...this is not just about police/fire, it is about 'our city'
which the politicians have prostituted for their own pleasure/gain at all of our expense. it should be a 'silent rally' where our only voice is our presence there that words just cannot fully express.

Although local organizers will lament that the city will now miss out on the Olympics' powerful legacy of parks and recreational facilities, nothing bars the city from building training centers for elite athletes and renovating fields for young people if it wishes - and at a small fraction of the cost that would have been imposed on it by the International Olympic Committee.

'CHICAGO' would do well to remember that Montreal's legacy from the 1976 Olympics includes an empty baseball stadium and government bonds that residents are still paying off. Similarly, many of the Olympic venues in Athens are unused just one year after their debut.

off topic scc... but this is great. on the chicago breaking news website they have a video of a man wanted for robbery being held by several citizens until the police show up. This video just shows the crap we have to deal with every day, plus its extemley funny how these little asian guys in chinatown tune this guy up pretty good. But, this is cook county and of course this guy only got charged with one misdemenor. very good video and very funny.. but something tells me if these were off duty officers caught on tape holding and beating this guy like these civilains did there would be outrage and maybe even a federal bus starting its motors. Take a look at the video and tell me what you thing... for the citizens its a good job... if it was the police, alot of lawsuits, sleepless nights and a whole lotta callback... just my opinion.

FROM A CBS REPORT:

Chicago's Olympic bid got a monumental boost when Obama was elected president.

At a rally in Daley Plaza five months before the election, Obama drummed up enthusiasm for the bid. He said: "In 2016, I'll be wrapping up my second term as president, so I can't think of a better way than to be marching into Washington Park alongside Mayor Daley, alongside Rahm Emanuel, alongside Dick Durbin, alongside Valerie Jarrett as President of the United States, and announcing to the world, 'Let the games begin!'"

The subject is Trees. With the city economy being horseshit like everywhere else, how is it the city finds the money to put trees everywhere. Check it out, wherever you look, there are new ones. LSD, the parks, and I'm probably forgetting numerous other places. Could the answer be Campaign Contributors. What do you wanna bet. And don't forget those Maggie D. street blocking planter boxes. Who do you think gets those contracts for installation and weeding. Do those things do anything besides block traffic and cause accidents?
Then, once they've grown, there is no one to prune the trees unless you beg the Alderman's office, since they've eliminated that section of S&S. Think about it.

Schadenfreude is not unique to the German people. It's merely a natural human reaction to arrogant, overbearing, presumptious assholes who then fall on their faces.

The IOC's rationale: Well, the Obamas, that cavalier obnoxious mayor and windbag Winfrey are gonna grace us with their presence, eh? How fuckin' thrilling. Surely they will part the Baltic Sea on their arrival.

By default, the so-called leader of the free world "teased" us as a probable no-show. Then with the eleventh hour approaching, drum roll and sound the fanfare trumpets. The Messiah is coming to Copenhagen. Hosanna in the highest!

Despite the fact that a consensus of Chicago taxpayers objected, Shortshanks, Ryan and the City Council just had to shove their magnificent obsession down our throats. The MSM played our tyrant's game in lockstep, sweeping overwhelming dissent under the carpet. After all, the public trough is megalomaniac Daley's to spend as he sees fit. The "legacy" thing, you know.

In their hubris, da Mare, et al. presumed that they had a lock on the winning bid. Thankfully, the IOC humiliated them before the world.

ROLL RIO, ROLL!

** About the proposed 07 Oct March:

PLEASE don't do it!

Let me say: I'm not a scab, a hack, or a Daley voter.

But marching now is a _BAD_ mistake.

Daley is a wounded animal. He's blaiming the media, and the media is blaiming him.

There is no point to march now. If you jump in the middle of a dog fight, you will surely get bit. The only purpose to marching is to to rub his nose in shit. The media will welcome our futile attempt. They will train all their guns on us just to get out from under Daley's wrath.

With Rio, WE won. More importantly, OUR CHILDREN WON. Every October 2nd, we can raise a pint and salute "Rio Day".

Don't take this victory and turn it into a blood bath on Oct 7. Stay home. Let them keep fighting themselves. Don't let them gang up on us. We don't need it.

Please. Don't. Do. It.

These are the same ones that you always see at the benefits and in court. These are the coppers that go that extra mile for their brothers and sisters. These are the ones who know what it means to back each other up.

Just saying...

Los Angeles only has about 9000 on their force and they seem to handle things fairly well. But there seem to be some differences, although I am not aware of all of them. For one, they had Bratten as chief, then the sheriffs office works hard in the city as well as the highway patrol and are respected for a good job.

I think you miss the point. To say that those above mentioned isssues had no bearing on the bid is also myopic. It may have been only 1% of the result but it still had some bearing.

Also, the reasons why the US was not selected is why Daley should be ashamed. He wasted all the time and money for a bid that was dead at conception, weather Chicago, LA, or whatever US city. The US was not getting the bid period and many of us little people knew it.

The mayor has an ETERNITY TO BE ASHAMED of...he should be ashamed of the way he has treated his police officers, fire fighters, teachers and every other city employee. He treats us as "disposables".

He cries "BROKE' when it comes to our contract but, "GO FOR BROKE" when it came to this criminal scheme to make his friend rich.

If the city was solvent with moderate taxes, if there was a budget surplus with a well paid labor force and full funded pension and medical plans, we could have done the Olympics and I would have been proud to have been part of that. I would vote for a mayor who could do that.
