DL Renewal Fees
- For more than 25 years, it has cost Illinoisans 10 dollars to renew their driver's licenses. That is about to change.
On Oct. 11, the cost of renewing a standard Illinois driver's license jumps from the $10 in effect since 1983 to $30.
The hike in the renewal fee came as lawmakers and Gov. Pat Quinn raised a number of taxes and fees in order to pay for a $30 billion program to build roads, schools and bridges.
Who wants to bet renewals start to drop? Illegals already feeling the heat won't renew. People laid off won't be able to spare the money. Resentful individuals will refuse to pay a 200% increase in the fees as their own form of protest.

Quinn and lawmakers touted the construction plan for its potential to generate jobs during the recession. However, Secretary of State Jesse White says he doesn't want to be blamed for the fee increases as drivers pour into his offices.
White is seeking re-election to his post.

Why blame Quinn? He inherited this mess, now he is being crucified for trying to find a way out. Jim Edgar was SOS for 8 years and not a word of criticism went his way. Does anyone really think the massive corruption at the SOS office started under George Ryan? Of course it didn't yet Edgar always gets the pass.
It wasn't raised in 25 years, now it gets raised. That's life. You can pay for it out of your retro checks. Mine isn't due again until 2012 and I will get the senior citizen discount then. So I guess I don't really care.

But all those CPD supervisors don't "loose" their ability to spell or communicate in English, which, it appears, is beyond your capabilities!
All of these fees and taxes, local, state and federal are the Democrat way of claiming on the one hand that they are not going to raise income taxes, but take the money from taxpayers by use of these outrageous fees that keep going up and new fees implemented.
I recently purchased a car and discovered that Stroger mailed me a tax bill called a County use tax!
I was not aware that when you title a vehicle Jesse White sends Stroger a notice.

That reminds me of when DUI, breathalyzer laws were implemented coppers discovered that it was too much bullshit to go through to make an arrest and the bosses found that it took cops off the street for hours to process the drivers.
I had attorneys come up to me in court and say, Hey you guys are killing me. Why aren't you making DUI arrests?
I assume now that overall, all arrests are down that Obama will be implementing a stimulus program for trial lawyers, something on the order of cash for clunkers.
All this whining is ridiculous! Sure, it is a 300% increase, but I have wondered for many years why it was so cheap in the first place. For something as important as a DL, if $30 prevents anyone from obtaining one, then breathing is too expensive for that person and they should simply stop. Come on, choose your battles more wisely than this.
When I saw how Pat Quinn handled the University of Illinois admissions scandal, I decided. then and there, he would never get my vote.
This idiot appoints a blue ribbon committee to make recommendations on how to proceed and correct the problems and the committee says remove ALL of the current trustees. But when two, (who happen to be African-American), refuse to resign, he caves in and runs like the little coward bitch that he is!
F*ck this wimp! He is the same a**hole who made a big deal about bringing in a blue ribbon committee to correct the corruption in state government and recommend campaign funding reforms to clean up the cesspool run by Mike Madigan and protected by Madigans little girl, Lisa, in the AG's office.
The committee's report pointed out most of the the glaring deficiencies but the coward Quinn wouldn't touch them. Instead, he stepped back and let his boss, Mike Madigan, shred the recommendations to pieces that were unrecognizable and implement the ones that would have little or no effect on his corrupt behavior. Not the leader I want running things! No balls MF!
All these damn politicians have gotten soooo comfortable with the glut of taxes and fees to spend that they don't know how to act when the going gets tough. Time for some REAL leadership in Springfield.

how about no lic renewal fee for anyone in cook county as we already pay the highest sales tax in the country, highest gasoline taxes, and pay double what other people pay in the state for auto insurance.... they just raised the damn liquor taxes again, where is all that going ???? what a bunch of thieving useless scumbag legislators we have in this city and state....

So the law abiding citizen has to pay $30 to renew their license but joe only gets a $15 fine for driving without a license. (at least that's what my guy got in traffic court last week)
I've got the renewal form here in front of me and the fee is currently shown as $15 rising to $35 after the 11th of this month.

200% is a bit extreme. It it were $5, I doubt many people would mind that. The fee for renewals hasn't risen, unlike everything else in the state. $5 if a fine "inflation" fee for the past 20 years.
Another example of democRATs punishing people who follow the rules. It's typical democRAT policy: tax and spend.

Dept of revenue has their employees walking various neighborhoods (mostly middle class, working) checking for expired city and state stickers. They are issueing tickets.
There's a new fee too. The exhale fee.
Oh, you're quite wrong, SCC. People will pay the new fees to get their licenses renewed.
The State will just jack up the fees to pay on tickets you'll receive for driving with NO license, or an expired one.
You'll probably have to pay a separate fine to be allowed to renew your license once it's been expired for a short period of time too.
The thing is, residents of Illinois who don't renew in a timely manner will find everything jacked up in their ATTEMPTS to rectify the situation once they've been caught and cited.
Get in a crash with an expired DL?
Your status will likely change from 'expired' to 'revoked,' and you'll pay dearly to get the 'revoked' status taken off so that you can renew it. And you'll have to do all that quickly, before your court date, of course.
One way or another, the State is becoming much like Shortshanks's Shitcago: They're gonna get their money, and you, the good citizen, WILL pay. I do predict that Quinn will be the Gerald Ford of Illinois, and will never be elected to the position of Governor.
This is using too much common sense, but, why doesn't the DL itself contain info, just like a credit card about insurance, status, etc ?
If UPS, Fed EX can do this to track packages done to the second the package is delivered, and every cash register can tell you if the credit card is good, why can't this be done for CPD in the cars?
The insurance business would make more money on insurance, and could fund it for the car terminals,but that would mean illegals couldn't get away with fake DL, and bogus insurance cards.

A few days ago I got the option from the Secretary of State to renew my license online, because I had gone the last four years with no accidents or violations...so I renewed online for $11.
Good for 4 years. Hopefully I'll be out of this fucking state by the time the next renewal rolls around.
If I recall, a beer (domestic, bottle, though we wouldn't've called it that, it was just an Old Style) was a buck and a quarter or so back in '83. Some joints actually used dimes and nickles, charging 85 cents or a buck ten for a beer. Today? Three bucks, three and a quarter, three fifty. For the same beverage!
Oh, wait--that's a 200 per cent rise in the price of something over the last 26 years! That's just wrong. Nothing should ever be more expensive than it was 26 years ago.
One reason why taxes rise is because fees and other things get frozen and then get taken for granted as gimmes. We had a free ride for decades, now it's time to pay. Pay through taxes or pay through fees, but pay we must. You have a driver's license? Roads cost money. Me, I say let's start licensing bicycles. They use the roads, they get bike lanes painted for them, they get bike racks put in (more now coming with the removal of so many parking meters). They oughta pay.
And I say that as someone who bikes everywhere 9 months a year in this town. Sign me up. I'll pay, since I oughta. Bicycles belonging to Chicago residents should have City Stickers just like cars.

Yeah and I just received a call from the commander's office informing me that I will not be marked on the A&A's until I renew my driver's license which is due to expire on my upcoming birthday!The department must have someone checking all of the state's databases for this type of information.

Open your eyes a little more Doofus and you would see you don't pay much in Property taxes like those of us in the suburbs.
Pay your fair share so we don't have to bail your asses out everytime we park a car downtown - $32- $40 to park??
Where is all that going?? Not to mention the 10.25% sales tax which drives your own county residents up to Wisconsin to buy stuff in Kenosha (5% tax). Great call, Todd!!
They should double the property taxes in Chicago. That would put it more on par with what we pay outside the county. Maybe that way Cook County could drop sales tax to 6%.
The industrial/manufacturing base that used to pay taxes is long gone and that has to be shifted to residential.
Just like in labor negotiations - you always hear government workers (and their unions) crying for pay commensurate with surrounding communities. Well - pay as much in property taxes as surrounding communities so you can pay your bloated salaries.
I conduct business outside of downtown now because for what you have to pay in parking, you can just about buy lunch for two in OakBrook.
As for the illegals, whoever said they should tag them with higher fines is absolutely correct. Start collecting some money for all the strain they put on healthcare, schools, police and fire, and other government agencies.
If government workers did their job, we wouldn't have 14 million illegals in this country.
And to those employers making more because they hire cheap illegals to work - let them foot the bill for all the strain that illegals put onto the system. Then they would realize that cheap labor isn't cheap.
Lets all get one of those bullshit international drivers license like the Europeans carry.I think they're only five bucks.

The problem lies in doing more with less, and the corruption of Chicago. Look at the services you get compared to ours, and I doubt there is as much waste as our city has.
Raising our taxes would just put more money into the daley crime family's pockets and waste more money on defunct social programs and the nightmarish public school system. It would not lower other fees and do you really think the daley crime family would make parking free when they get a cut of the money?
If the amount of property taxes imposed were our only problem with this city then why do we all say we're moving to the suburbs the first chance we get? The answer is we don't care about what we pay, only what we get for it.
The illegals still won't get licenses because the judges do not enforce fines. I haven't written a ticket in almost four years, but got stuck doing an accident last month and driver(illegal) never had a D/L. I wrote the ticket and went to court last week on it. The judge let the illegal w/ no D/L go, with no fines, no court costs because the other party (parked car) was not in court. The judge didn't ask me if anything(if D/l was produced,if I ran him to verify if he did not have a D/L) just let him go. But I did notice while sitting there that the poor working class citizens with D/Ls where required to pay $135.00 in court fees.

Hey Einstein, you can easily take the train and avoid the 30 to 40 dollar price on the parking of the vehicle. But we understand, you are to important to take the train.
You make a blanket statement about City Dwellers should pay more property taxes. You made the choice to move to the suburbs. Also, you pay more because you get more. When was the last time you had a drive by shooting near your house ? When was the last time some clout creep wrote a ticket to one of your vehicles parked in front of your house ? I wonder if you have to pay $ 9000 a year to send your kids to a private school because the Public School sucks and isn't safe. The more you pay in taxes definatley makes up for what a working family pays in tuition so stop the crying or simply move back to Chicago.

The above statement is why this city and country is in such dire straights. Simply put greedy, sneaky lieing lawyers. The ARDC is so corrupt and our court system is a fuc&ing joke. Until the system is correct and the BS lawsuits stop, this country is going down hill very quickly.
Greedy Lawyers act as if they are protecting the rights of thier clients, but that is so far from the truth. All they care about is the money. The above statement is a perfect example of the scum bag mentality of these money grubbing lawyers.

How about REPEALING ALL TAX Increases and make these changes:
