$4 Million Swindle?

Shaved had this up yesterday - a nice catch we missed:
  • A Chicago bank has filed to foreclose on a shuttered South Side theater owned by Regina Evans, the Country Club Hills police chief better known for overseeing a probe into the recent suicide of a former confidant to indicted Gov. Rod Blagojevich.

Citizens Bank & Trust Co. alleges that a group led by Ms. Evans defaulted on a $2.1-million loan to finance the New Regal Theater, a shuttered landmark at 1641 E. 79th St. that the venture bought for $2.4 million in March 2008.

  • Ms. Evans, a former Chicago police lieutenant, had planned to revive the theater with live entertainment, helped by the city’s decision to forgive $1.9 million in city loans and grants tied to the property. But she stopped making interest payments on the loan starting in May, according to the foreclosure suit, filed earlier this month in Cook County Circuit Court.
Now try to get the city to forgive you a $60 parking ticket or a $120 overdue water bill. Anyone want to guess what happens to you?

The fact that it is Citizens Bank & Trust should have raised ire in the first place. Who is the owner of Citizens Bank & Trust? How is this bank connected to the city? Real estate seems to keep bringing up interesting questions about who's who in Chicago and politics...well even the white house?

She and hubby a now retired (young) CPD Sgt, had a large investment in a concert venue in the south suburbs right after they bought the Regal. Under mysterious circumstances (and no business in the suburban venue) it burned down to the ground!!!! Makes u say Hmmm! Any takers to investigate this....

The Feds should look into the connection between Regina Evans and the Stroger/Beavers political organization.
Many of us from 004 knew she could not pay back the money she received from the City when she took this place over.
This was a scam to enrich herself.

Can't a taxpayer watchdog group or someone file a lawsuit against the city every time they decide to "forgive" debts that are owed to us?

This incident, and the Maxwell Street townhouses come to mind, where connected buyers flipped the properties when it was expressly forbidden to do so, and Daley refused to go after the lost funds when the scheme was exposed.

If a lawsuit were to be filed on behalf of the taxpayers interests, couldn't the courts force these debts to be repaid?

If the Stuttering Prick gets the Olympics, we are SO SCREWED!!!!

Mountains and mountains and mountains of waste. And we are all financing it.
I hope Daley's arteries are as clogged with cholesterol as his hair is greasy.

Both of these individuals are merit promotees. Her father in law was the former commander of 007. They are wired into Stroger and the 6th ward.

I find it confounding unlikely that there isn't a tie between Chris Kelly's supposed suicide in CCH and Evans being the police chief who quickly declares it a closed case. Too many coincidences, too many links.

Shouldn't this make AG squirm?

i find it interesting that the chris kelly investigation was handled by c.c. hills p.d. and not the isp or fbi. a complete whitewash incompetent investigation the guy is buried and all his secrets with him. i remember when regina was in narcotics selling balloons and part favors while i and the other non scholarship people were writing warrants and locking people up.

She got kicked out of Narcotics after missing 8 court dates. Chief Elgia Cook protected her but then then he went on the medical and Deputy Chief Mike Hoke bounced her ASAP.

Ahhhh! Chief Cook, what memories!! He went on the medical rather than take the drug urine test, as I recall. Then I heard they found boxes of tape recordings of telephone conversations in his office. It seems that many of the telephones on the 9th floor were tapped??
