Predicting the Fallout

Now that the dream is dead, there are quite a few questions on every one's minds. Some have popped up in the comments. Some are being bandied about at a local watering hole we frequent to enjoy non alcoholic refreshments. Some of it is roll call talk.
  • Since the City doesn't need a few thousand rifle-trained cops for an Olympic event, will the rifle program be canceled?
We imagine that this would be a tremendous "F.U." by Daley to the CPD. He's going to be looking for scapegoats and here's the Police Department all ready and waiting to be kicked around. We wouldn't put a thing past him.
  • The unions, specifically the Laborers, granted Shortshanks the ability to re-open their contracts at any time in the next few years. What happens now?
Odds are that Daley will re-open these contracts very shortly. Channel 7 is reporting the budget deficit is closing on $600 million. There's no way Shortshanks can balance this thing with $600 million in new taxes. We imagine he's going to double the unpaid days for non-union workers and double the layoffs for the unions. He's trapped because he made a whole lot of promises for Olympic-related construction work to keep the peace and that's evaporated.
  • How much was spent on the Michael Reese land? How much was spent on posters, handouts, school material, fake crowds in Daley Plaza, etc.
We imagine a lot of this is going to come to the fore as "investigative reporting." The media smells blood and Shortshanks has lost a rather large battle. The businesses that were soaked for Millennium Park also coughed up for Olympic material. They're tapped out and probably not feeling to much loyalty to a weakened mayor. We can only hope.
  • "reverend" land speculators? Connected business people? Insider deals? All that land around Douglas Park and Washington Park?
Again, we'll hear the stories. The media might grab a few. We'll see.
  • All the cash generating assets have been sold for a pipe dream. Now what?
Now the taxpayers take it in the shorts. Plain and simple. Watch for middle class flight to take off in the next year or so. The economy isn't recovering, the housing market is still softer than goose droppings, manufacturing is taking a beating. Big cities can't operate in a "business as usual" type setting and Exhibit A is Chicago.
  • Where does the casino go now? And who has the contracts?
The million dollar question. It will all become clear shortly.

And as far as we can tell, there is no "zero tolerance" mission being run against citizens of Brazil.

Secuirty Management Group

Check out thier addy: 1824 W. Pershing!

President Greg Ramirez

Jumping Jack reprieve aids Daley's ex-bodyguards

Only a few months before City Hall threatened to ax the program, the city signed a three-year deal to run it with a security firm owned by three former bodyguards for Mayor Richard Daley, records show. The city will pay Security Management Group of America as much as $4.26 million under the agreement with the Mayor's Office of Special Events for "staffing services for various city festivals."

...

The company has donated thousands of dollars to local political campaign funds, including more than $3,000 to the Democratic fund in the Daley family's 11th Ward power base and to Cook County Commissioner John Daley (D-Chicago), the mayor's brother and the ward organization's leader.

But Gregory Ramirez, the company's president, said good service, not clout, won the current deal and several other contracts with the Daley administration.

This IOC rejection is the exact result that I expected.

Daley went after these Games as if he had a clear mandate from the citizens of Chicago to do so...

HE DID NOT!

Daley thought that he could dazzle and/or bully everyone with an IOC vote into an Olympic Games for Chicago...

HE COULD NOT!

Daley thinks that now that the opportunity for enormous Olympic wealth through corruption has ended, he will go back to his regular petty thievery as usual...

HE WILL NOT!

He will now be asked to account for the $kyway MILLION$, the Parking lot MILLION$, the Parking Meter MILLION$, the TIF MILLION$ and the Olympic Fund MILLION$. He will be watched and scrutinized more closely now than ever.

The Chicago political landscape has been forever transformed by Daley's Olympic stunt! He may never recover from this one. All that is needed is a capable, intelligent, credible, honest person to run against him... any ideas?

The hype and the anticipated distraction of the Chicago 2016 Olympics has failed to materialize. There will be no smoke screen or carnivals to entertain the unemployed and agitated masses.

Crime is going to skyrocket while the natives become increasingly restless. Civil disorder will come to the streets of Chicago on a large scale. These mini riots are symptomatic of the underlying building up. Be prepared and be safe.

The taxpaying public is also keenly focused on their bills. Money has become tight and people will not tolerate this rampant, blatant thievery any longer.

Daley, who had derided the Olympic selection process before throwing his weight behind a Chicago bid in 2005, was counting on a win to boost Chicago’s economy and reinvigorate his own standing. The quick loss represents an embarrassment of international and local dimensions for a mayor who has dominated the city landscape and is used to getting what he wants.

Shortshanks didn't get what he wanted this time around and he has certainly not bolstered his 30% approval rating with this embarrassment.

Chicago was the winner yesterday in more than one way.

1. The Chicago Machine, Daley and Barry were dealt a death blow that they can never recover from.

2. The taxpayers are now off the hook for billions of dollars in wasted corruption ploys.

3. The national and the international press has exposed the corruption, scandal, graft and violence of Chicago to the world.

4. The joy and elation that the majority of Chicagoans experienced on Rio's selection was euphoric.

5. We can all take great pleasure from watching the greedy insiders wretch, figuring out what to do with all that illicitly obtained ghetto real estate.

Thank-You IOC, Congratulations Rio!

Less news papers, auto plants & suppliers, banks, school teachers, police etc... means fewer jobs servicing them. All this results in higher supply and lower prices for things they would have typically bought in 30 yrs on those jobs.
Get ready to sell for less your house, harley, vacation property, etc... AND pay higher taxes to make up for fewer workers.

Okay, now let me try to understand this. EVERY single year our contract is up for negotiation Daley cries poor mouth (somehow regardless of whether it expired in 2 years or 4). That part I get it was expected.

Now, last week he was guaranteeing the olympic committee 600+ BILLION, and he's been stashing funds from this and from that to ensure such an undertaking - now the olympics are quashed and he hasn't one red cent.

Again, kind of spectacular timing. How do you guarantee such grand incomprehensible numbers one day, and the very next KABOOM you're penniless.

What happened to all those monies??? Now please don't try to tell me he "invested" all that money in a pipe dream on a hope and a prayer.

How much more can tax payers really take the hit for in these hard times. Our utilities, gas, groceries, health care, medicines, etc all went up, the state and county have raised our taxes when we earn our money, raised them on our homes where we invest our money, then re-raised them when we spend our money. Our retirement funds took a hit and tuition's have gone through the roof. We are experiencing too many financial burdens as it is, how the hell are we gonna take this hit too???

it's just silly, silly to think the citizen's of Chicago who had no voice in the "business" venture should even have to hear another word about the costs, much less have to absorb them too.

He has some fancy lawyers, accountants, and financial advisers on the payroll perhaps they need to find another answer to the age old question "who's gonna pay for this".

Some suggestions, open Meig's field and start charging those fee's again; that could generate some money. rent out the BEAN to advertisers that they can shrink wrap the BEAN like the do the cars, advertisers can rent out spaces on sides of garbage trucks, fire trucks, and heck make patches and put them on everyone's uniform like the Nascar folks.

Something must be done other than raising the taxes.

I love that Mr Mayor can throw a party and haven't a penny to pay for any of it, and yet if us city workers fail to pay our parking tickets or water bill we're gonna hear about it .. our name will be on a list, we'll be threaten with suspension time, taking more money from our family that are already struggling in these "hard economic times".

Mr Mayor, prior to all this you said you'd have private investors lined up and I certainly hope you did not invest the City on an all or nothing bet, and come up with NOTHING.

"This was not a political gamble," said the mayor, who appeared poised and gracious when he did address the media. "This was not a political adventure. It was a commitment on behalf of the city to get the Olympic and Paralympic Games."

Wrong this was politicians gambling with a commitment of tax payer money for the politically connected to get more. Jesse Owens and Ralph Metcalf had nothing to do with it Mr. Mayor.

Officers are constantly complaining about the contract, lack of manpower, resources, bad bosses, merit promotions, politicians, etc. These are legitimate gripes; however, what I don’t see is outrage that the murders of Officer Alejanrdo Valadez and Detective Robert Soto have not been caught.
This is not a rant against detectives. They are doing all they can but apparently have run into a wall. It’s past time for others to get involved. All field interviews and debriefings should include questions pertaining to unsolved crimes. These two homicides are priorities.
The department has an obligation to keep these investigations in the forefront. Updates at staff meeting. Periodically the subject of roll calls. Pax 501 and media releases to remind officers and citizens these cases are unresolved. FOP and PBBA reminders in their respective publications.
Information is out there. Evidence is yet to be recovered. There are people who have the answers. It is up to us to find them. This is not just a CPD quest. Brothers and sisters in suburban agencies, federal agencies, jails, corrections may uncover key evidence. Information knows no jurisdiction.
I don’t care where the information comes from. I don’t care who gets recognition. I only care that these bastards are brought to justice.

"Chicago aint ready for reform" is a famous quote by Ald Paddy Bauler after he shot a policeman in the leg who came into his tavern in Old Town attempting to close it down. It is unclear if Ald Bauler was cut loose by the district Captain or the Judge, be he was pronounced "Not Guilty" despite many witnesses. The start of the Chicago way ?

Reality check:

Daley, you're a mayor of a city that you've broken.

You rode the coat tails of your father all your life but now you have to sell the farm because of your inability to deal with the public in an honest manner.

You are a union buster. In a union town.

You attended a world class function as a second city thug thinking that you were more than you actually were.

A dumb little man.

Retire, and travel...far away.

LAST BUTT LAST!!!!! STILL FRESH TOPIC!!!!!!

Mayor Daley's Olympic bid team not only lost the race for the 2016 Games, it came in dead last -- a stunning defeat for the city. "I was shocked, I was disappointed, I couldn't believe it," Daley said.

Chicago's elimination from Olympic consideration has much more to do with the huge rift between the USOC and IOC than any attempt by the IOC to say fuck you to Daley or Chicago.

Daley and Chicago are both insignificant to the IOC; it is the USOC that doesn't play well with the heavily European IOC. I feel that any American city would have suffered a similar defeat this time, just like New York was ousted early last time.

How ironic that the master of manipulating elections, Richard M. Daley, had this election seized from his grubby little hands in a worldwide public embarrassment and humiliation and that Daley took the saviour Obama down with him. That the prestige of the office of US President took a hit was totally predictable if only anyone here really understood IOC politics.

It is clear that Daley and Obama did not. This humiliation and swift kick in the ass could not have happened to a more deserving person than Richard M Daley.

Good for you Richard M Daley, you have had this coming for a long time. Now all we need is a hundred page Federal indictment of the stuttering prick and we can get down to work at making this City whole again.

Oct 7th, 10 AM March on city hall.

City council will be in session.

Expose the city's scandals and show the public that no one cares for these people any more! Because they just don't care for us.

Again, FOP, if anyone is reading this over the weekend, can you help us with the buses again. If there are any concerns about $$$ for the buses, just ask everyone to cough up $2 a piece to defray the costs.

Please help, we can have our own Tea party! Let's march and show the public we care for them too.

Tasteful signs, expose the scandals and show the city that we're tired of the corruption.

Oct 7th, 10 AM! bring a coffee.

THIS is why no copper would have gotten over time IF we got 2016:

10/03/2009 12:26:00 AM

the 3 guys were all daleys bodyguards moreno was the commander, they all retired and while being bodyguards started this firm which gets 10's of millions in city business! But if your an off duty they will pay you $8.00 per hour (SHIT), as they rake in all the profits after of course paying off city hall thieves! Why does daley not hire them to do his security and free up the 30 D-3 bodyguards and the fleet of tax payer paid city vehicles he has? The bodyguards each make over 100K plus overtime and work lots of special employment!

Had an opportunity to speak to a woman from the burbs whose husband is in the construction business and stood to make some good money on the olympics. She was pretty upset when chitown was knocked out, saying that they are going to lose their insurance because of lack of hours needed to keep it. She also said she doesnt understand how people can be happy that chicago is not getting the games, it would have meant jobs for so many.

I asked a simple question, how can the city afford to build all these projects when:
-the ciy cant afford to salt streets
-the city cant afford to plow side streets during the week
-the city cant afford to pay its employees
-the city cant afford to fully staff its work force
-the city sold off its its future revenue in the leasing of the skyway and meters for a quick lump sum to pay for the games
-city hall shuts down because it cant afford to pay its bills
-the city cant afford to cut the grass and clean the runways at ohare(as reported by faa)
-there is no long term plan by our government to try to sustain a revenue stream beyond what he thinks his tenure is going to be.
-casino,tax incentives for small business and manufacturing,city projects with a reason(rehab schools,hospitals,libraries...)
-the safety of its citizens is secondary to the ego of our mayor
-its like buying a cadillac while your kids go hungry

But in the end it comes down to each persons own problems.

Two things....
1. from wikipedia "Chicago has had prior experience with Olympic bids. In 1901, the city was unanimously chosen by the IOC to stage the 1904 Summer Olympics,[8] but the Games were moved to St. Louis to coincide with the 1904 World's Fair.[9] Chicago also bid for the 1952 and 1956 Summer Olympics, without success." And we lose in 2009. Basically the last time we had a shot St. Louis stole it from us. Now I know how all you Cub fans feel.

2. Daley had to be kidding himself all along. With Beijing having hosted the olympics in 2008 there was absolutely no way they were picking another communist city like Shitcago just 2 games later.

OT -- The destruction of Chicago continues -- with or without the Olympics. (originally posted elsewhere, here is an on-topic forum for it, thanks SCC)

This city is on a Friday night death ride straight at a concrete bridge abutment, laughing and blasting the radio and throwing beer cans out the windows...before too long the median home value here will be $7,100 like it is in Detroit. I am seeing more foreclosures, board-ups, and insurance fires all the time, in Chicago and suburbs.

"High reassessments could lead to 50 percent rent hikes"

"The dream of affordable rental housing in Chicago likely will become a forgotten memory because of 'astronomical' real estate tax assessments that effectively could lead to 50 percent rent increases over the next few years and force thousands of families out of the city..."

http://www.insideonline.com/site/
epage/14071_162.htm

...and...

"Rents could skyrocket due to tax increases -- Tax rates are down, but assessed values way up"

"Double-digit tax-assessment hikes on rental apartments during one of the worst real estate recessions since the Great Depression are sparking a rebellion among North Side apartment owners and managers who are seeking tax relief from Cook County...."

Just as bug-eyed crazy as the condo builders who won't -- can't -- stop. Talk about a maniac carving out a pound of flesh for himself -- the money WILL come! It WILL! -- even in the middle of a depression.

OT and I was going to post it yesterday but due to all the excitement with the mayor getting it stuck right up his keister I forgot. The Dept. of Revenue booted a car in the paking lot at the academy yesterday. A gold Jeep. The car was clearly a coppers car as I myself saw the FOP stickers on the window. Now before some of you company suckholes lambast me, I too think the owner of the car should not have allowed himself to be at their mercy, he should pay his tickets. But the thought that DOR would knowingly enter a police facility and boot a coppers car strikes me as being wrong. I post this for informational purposes only. When you encounter them on the street remember they are not your friend and act accordingly.

A few Alderman are already being strategically targeted for removal by neighborhood coalition groups. (Helen Shiller, Tom Tunney, Vi Daley)

Don't forget (El Catrin) Ray Colon he is already in the burner by a community group ANT Armitage Neighborhood Together .
They are organizing a big march on Oct-5 around Armitage and Kimball. They are expecting about 250 people to march to the Alder-thief Colon's office for the discontent of the zoning approval for the Zapata project.
Brickerdike (THIEVES) had the zoning changed and want to build more affordable housing (like we don't have enough free loaders and scum-bags bangers )for the minimal amount of $386,000.00 per unit with our tax dollars(TIF money) and which they continue extorting all the Politicians around Humboldt Park and threatening them that if they don't do as told they will not be re-elected
Why? because they politicians can count with brickerdike hefty contribution$$$$ for their campaigns in which can also count with their votes in election day

Chicago cop hurt after being thrown from horse

October 3, 2009 2:32 PM
A Chicago police mounted patrol officer was hurt when he was thrown from his horse this afternoon while trying to write a parking ticket outside Grant Park.

The officer, a 47-year-old man, landed on his elbow and head, and was taken to Northwestern Memorial Hospital. The officer, who has been with Chicago police since 1994, was conscious at the time, but suffered a slight cut to his head and needed stitches on his elbow, police said.

The incident occurred about 1 p.m. in the 500 block of South Columbus Drive.

The rifles will be gone. They were only here to appease the IOC. Many of the European countries have their police armed with rifles and especially when they host the olympics. Daley and his corrupt crew knew that and just included the rifles in his "smoke and morrors" programe. Thank God we didn't get the olympics it saved the city. The olympics would have been nice if we had honest politicians and a mayor that wasn't so evil.

The real question some brave reporter should be asking is when and where does it end? How can the city continually run hundreds of millions in deficits year after year? Why aren't all non-essential programs in question? Annual flower planting, for example. Until these issues are raised the city will continue to spend into the red and sell off assets to screw the future for the sake of the present.

As a union member, if I am laid off I will move out of Chicago. I'm tired of all of the taxes, fees and other overall fleecing that I've had to endure over the years. Someone with 19 years with the city was laid off in the last round, so I know that with only 10, I could be on the chopping block. I know of others city workers that have left this state for better job offers. So, I'm prepared to seek opportunities elsewhere, as well. The mayor doesn't scare me.

1st) If ur serious about having Law-Enforment/P.O.'s running for aldermanic offices throughout the city, then put together slate making committee(s) in place to field candidates and those that are interested should submit their intent with the committee(s).

2nd) Committee's to conduct voter-registration drive throughout each ward(or District)while picking up volunteer's and donations to a non-profit group (name to be supplied upon request) that would over-see all funding candidate functions.

3rd) Have all members follow-up with regular beat meetings, caps, seniors, and so on, on issues most important to them in their wards and picking up support group's along the way.

4th) Have all City, County, State, and Federal police agency's, and every police orginizations as well as the Unions support the same cause in supporting the same issues and candidates, not just the politicians that want our vote, or the Unions voting for them!!!!

5th) Setting up web-sites with Tweeter, FaceBook, Yahoo, Google, and many more just to name a few, just like the Obamas did when they were gearing up for the elections.

If the politicians can do it(Dem vs. Republicans), then we as Law-Enforcment/Police, be it City, County, State, or Federal can put together one of the most powerful group's that would change the way elections are won.

Remember, united we stand, divided we fall! We must act as one, speaking to everyone including our families, friends, neighbor's and everyone else who just wants a change in their government. It is a lot of work but look at it this way, if not for us then for our children and our childrens childrens future!

"The sleeping giant has awaken!"

Make the call to everyone, let's do it!! "walk the walk, and do the talk!"

"We must declare a state of emergency. We have an obligation to prepare for our children safe passage."

Mayor.

10/03/2009 12:49:00 PM

When he pays for the boot to be removed the DOR will return to remove the boot. They should be arrested for CTTP as soon as the boot is removed.

The F.U. to the police by the city started even before we lost the olympic bid. Take a look at the 26 SEP Daily bulletin. New parking meters(boxes) along 35th right at Michigan. Bulletin says to go to the police lot and tell them you want a spot(good luck); otherwise pay to park. If all the meters were leased, what in the heck is the city putting up new meters for? Are these owned by them, or does LAZ have these in their pocket too?????
Investigative reporting anyone???

The Meters are Owned by the city.
Its a LEASE to CPM/Laz.

Speaking as that Revenue PEA you Blues all know and love from 12th district.....

DoR has given a "lay off M plates" unofficially.

Park on Pay Boxes all you want....don't have to pay them now.

But....make sure that you have a PO on watch duty there. Cause when CPM or LAZ or SerCo come by and start writing your cars...
I expect you guys to ANOV them for Jaywalking or Double Parking or w/e you can think of.

SCC, thank you for providing this forum.

I agree with this writer 100 percent. Unfortunately most of us are not longer arresting people like we used to because the beefs are too career damaging so the opportunities to debrief and question are limited. Once again I blame the dept. for this, not individual officers.

Wednesday's City Hall March

I expect to see Cook County Board President Candidate, Lt. John Garrido, to be upfront and leading the troops if he expects a single police vote.

Mike Shields was elected by us to represent us, he had better be upfront leading. Mike loves to tell the story about how his brother led the troops into the Mayor's office during the last contract march. Talk is cheap, lets see you lead us now. No more talk about taking Daley out. Talk is cheap, we demand action.

Jimmy Maurer can now lead us too, now that he got a taste of City Hall. Jimmy it's time to ante up and lead the mean and women like a real General would do.

I also expect to see all of the FOP & PBPA officers leading from the front. If you expect us to vote for any of you, LEAD!

The time is now, the media is keenly focused on Chicago and the Mayor is weak.

Lets saddle up and get er done!

"I wouldn't include Pat Levar on that list. He's pretty well liked all things considered."
