Politics at HQ

From a fly on the wall:
  • No more promotions this year, including Detectives. Supposedly Peterson flipped his top at hearing this, seeing as how the clearance rate is tanking and the D-unit is allegedly more poorly manned (percentage wise) that the Patrol Division. A proposal is floating around to cancel all detective details to outside task forces, but it's considered a long shot
  • Our favorite Elton John fan has made her THIRD appearance at IAD this past week. Brust isn't happy about being middled by Ruthie and is making waves. It seems the answers to certain questions are being "massaged" and even recanted outright. Rule 14 violations?
You can bet that 35th Street is more than happy about today being the announcement for the Olympics. All their problems will be buried in the aftermath of celebrations or mourning.

There has not been a detective class made since December 2007. This is another example of trying to do more with less. I highly doubt detectives will be pulled from their details....the reason they are in a detail to begin with is because they have clout.
D-Unit is in dire need of bodies to handle the case load.. but who cares? the eye is not on the ball, its on the Olympics!!!

That's just great. I put my life on hold studying for the sgt test and get a damn good score and now it looks like i'll never get the promo. They've only made 110 off the list so far in about 3 years. What the hell? Why even bother. It's just so deflating getting your hopes up and working/studying hard and doing everything the right and legit way and then to get no reward for it. It just sucks.

Ernest Brown was one of 44 sergeants who filed suit in 1994 against the city of Chicago. They claimed written tests required for promotions to lieutenant discriminated against minorities.

If you think the clearance rate is tanking now, just wait. With no help on the way, just Suspend everything. If 35th street doesn't care, neither do we. Peterson will never cancel the details to outside agencies. Where do you think he spent the majority of his detective career? The FBI task force.

Go Rio, oh yeah.

Rio has Chicago's yearly murder totals each month! I read that the police in Rio shoot an average of three people per day!

And some politician in Brazil, either the president or the mayor of Rio was on TV explaining this by saying "they aren't murdering the tourists."

My money just went to Madrid or Tokyo.

At least Cmdr Tarmac isn't running 022, although things can't get much worse there either.

Re fed details:
The details to the feds are scams anyway. They get OT for just sitting around for a couple hours in their home unit after doing their "8" (and that's a joke) playing on the internet. Sit around talk, do nothing..All out of the taxpayer's pocket. Then they try to get their name on your arrest to get "credit" with the feds. You gotta look like you are doing something for all that time you're "working", right? The Sgts are in on it for a piece of the pie, usually a fed car, badge or something. They beef up the reports to look like their chosen are really working hard, auditing should take a closer look. Very scandelous. Bring 'em back so they could sit back and do nothing at the city taxpayer's expense. That's what they are good at.

Who is Ruthie? I she the civilian that was choking a police officer at the medical section and when all they brass came down from upstairs they wouldn't let the 2nd district police came out they wouldn't let the battered officer have her arrested. The police report was written without a statement from the officer it only contained the civilian's statement. Helm as well as other brass would not allow an arrest to be made. This civilian has worked in many places through out the city and is moved around because of the many assaults and batteries she has committed against city employees. Why is she still working? Who does she know? Meeks? Jackson? Rush? Because, these guys seem to have alot of influence in the hiring of city employees. Not one of the bosses backed up the police officer yet when this civilian came down from upstairs to work in the medical section they were informed that she was a trouble maker, that she has been physically abusive to co-workers in the past and has lawsuits against the city and to protect themselves they should just stay away from her.

Talk about politics and chicanery:

City Hall late this afternoon released copies of defense subpoenas seeking the testimony of 10 aldermen in the case involving an indicted developer.

The subpoenas, issued by Calvin Boender's defense lawyer Joe Roddy, seek testimony of nine current aldermen--Ed Smith, 28th, Bernard Stone, 50th, Edward Burke, 14th, Walter Burnett, 27th, Emma Mitts, 37th, Ricardo Munoz, 22nd, Patrick O'Connor, 40th, Helen Shiller, 46th, Eugene Schulter, 47th--and former Ald. William Banks, 36th.

Roddy said the aldermen were subpoenaed because he believed they could provide evidence about the "consistently honorable course of conduct of Cal Boender."

In May, a federal grand jury indicted Boender and Ald. Isaac Carothers, 29th, on charges stemming from Boender's efforts to develop a 50-acre industrial site on the West Side. With Carothers' support, Boender successfully rezoned the site in 2006, allowing construction of a residential and commercial development known as Galewood Yards.

If Joe Roddy is this guy's attorney it is either a fix or he is finished. Roddy is the city's guy and will sell you out in a New York minute.

This one is worth its own post SCC

Hop on the computer and run the Area Three absentee commander's date of hire, then run the date of hire of those working in A/3. The correlation is staggering. But it's all legit, boys and girls.

Area Three could lose twenty percent of its roster and do fine. But where would the glorified $85,000/yr detective-receptionists work, if that happened? And the lunch orderers? And the double-dipping lieutenant who is too busy to come in to work?

With all his preparations and anticipated revenue for the 2016 Olympic bid, I wonder how he felt when the envelope didn't even consider Chicago as a contender? Sucks being on the receiving end.

You are however correct about he rest. The last class was in 2007 and they have not even taken 250 off the list. They've probably made about 280-290 detectives since 2004 and that's counting merit promotions. So this will give all of you new guys on the job an idea about your chances of getting promoted in this department legitimately.

Hey J-Fed,

I'm happy just being on me beat car doing nothing! I cruise around looking to make deals for my other job and networking. You have nothing to hang over my head to look forward to, you non police dickhead!

I am part of the KMA club! Promotions just don't matter when you have a lot of time on this job and can bid for whatever and whenever you want to work!

Also, I have interests outside of police work, that I make a nice 2nd income and don't have to grovel and kiss ass like most bosses!

SO A "BIG FUCK YOU" GOES OUT TO THE BRASS!

A Happy KMA Beat guy!

Hey, don't be blabbing out all the secrets! If word gets out my job of beat guy will become a clout spot so don't let anyone know how good it is.

Actually you are wrong. The test was given Saturday, December 18, 2004. I have the paper in front of me. So it has been almost 5 years since they've given a Detective test. You are however correct about he rest. The last class was in 2007 and they have not even taken 250 off the list. They've probably made about 280-290 detectives since 2004 and that's counting merit promotions. So this will give all of you new guys on the job an idea about your chances of getting promoted in this department legitimately.

Maybe the test was given the end of 2004... whatever...but the results for the detective test did not get sent out until August 2005. I am looking at the result notification right now. That means they started promoting off the new list the end of 2005. So, since the last class was Dec. 2007 they have only promoted off the current list for two years.

A3 = 8 homicides
A2=115 homicides . . . .

A couple of comments:

1. Detectives investigate more than just homicides.

2. Most of the Area Two homicides are just disturbances that got out of hand.

3. The residents of Area Three pay lots more in taxes than do the residents of Area Two.

A couple of comments

1. Duh.But there is not a single category that is not 10 times higher in 2 than 3.

2. Is a burglary a criminal damage that got out of hand. WTF!

3. Higher taxes? So what. The comment just had to do with manpower distribution.

4. Everyone has legitimate reasons for working where they do and that is fine. I don't buy the B.S. that this guy works in 2 and is real police and this guy works in 3 and is not. But the fact is the work load is 10 times greater in 2 than 3 across the board with similar manpower. If you don't like it go to 3 or if you do go to 2.
