FOP Survey

They're looking for incidents involving denial of being able to use Time Due.

With the City's recent end-around run of FLSA time usage by paying off the time on the books, we imagine that management is going to be using the tactic of denying time off more regularly to alleviate the shortages that are becoming more and more painfully obvious.

What can be done about it? The argument can be made that we are actually saving the City money during these rough economic times by checking the "Comp Time" box rather than the "$$$" box when overtime is earned. And it isn't unreasonable to request that we be able to use that time off whenever we'd like without onerous preconditions.

We suppose keeping track of the denials will aid in a future grievance or lawsuit. That seems to be the only way to get anything done around here anymore.

If you have more than 100 hours on the books, start taking money FOR EVERYTHING!!

CHECK THE MONEY BOX ON ALL OVERTIME SLIPS!

DON'T TAKE 4 HOURS TIME FOR THE HOLIDAYS, TAKE THE 4 HOURS CASH!

Take the money and run! The department is going to deny all the time due it wants, and the FOP is not going to do anything about it.

Nothing will be done regardless. Its a sad fact: the union IS the city. Time due has been a problem for a long, long time. Residency won't even be discussed. Contracts are progressively worse. the fat lady sang.

At least you still have the option of taking money.

At OEMC we just got stripped of that option. When we work any hours in a week more than 40 (including cancelled lunches or breaks, and getting held over 4 extra hours), we only get time on the books now and don't get paid money anymore. And, of course since we're so understaffed, we usually get our time due denied. It's supposedly in effect "only" until July, 2011, but we all know what the city taketh away, it giveth back not.

We'll be getting held over if we get the Olympics in 2016, and it'll effectively be slave labor. Overtime not paid for in cash, paid only in compensatory time that we don't get to use anyway, and is therefore valueless.

What about the contract? We waited two years regarding it. Now we have to wait another year. It sounds like B.S. While I am making $70,000, the boys at FOP are making over $130,000 with cars. When does it end? Stop the violence...start the peace.

The troops on midnights in six are constantly being denied td on weekends. Now there is a limit of how many people can take a night off. The time due book is being held hostage by the desk crew so we cant even find out if the day is open. 006 district is going down the toilet fast. I think G*D left this part of town a long time ago.

This FLSA lawsuit was this biggest piece of bullshit coming out of FOP in awhile. How much time and money did they spend on this wehn it only applies to 160 or so people.

--Same thing goes on in 008 on 3rd watch. Our "Watch Secretary" ... the one that the district is not supposed to have... will not let us see the book. We don't know if we should use a personal day or a c/u day. And the other rule is they won't take a slip more than 30 days in advance. We don't know until the day before if we got the day off so you can't even change it to a pday. It's just DENIED!

Fill out the survey on the FOP site.

I KNOW ALOT OF YOU SHY AWAY FROM THE MEDICAL BUT IF U CANT TAKE THE TIME OFF U KNOW WHAT 2 DO.

USE ALL 3 DAY.

MANY OF THE OTHER DEPARTMENT :PARKS OEMC ETC ETC HAD THEIR CASH FOR OT TAKEN AWAY.

THE CITY DOESNT HAVE THE MONEY. MAY BE ALL OF US SHOULD START A PROTEST AND TAKE ALL CASH ON THE YELLOW SLIP.

IF WE DID THAT WOULD THROW J-FEDS BUDGET OFF AND MAKE COMMANDER SCRAMBLE TRYING TO SUBVERT THE CONTRACT.

FOP COULD SPONSOR THIS ALSO BECAUSE IT WOULD NOT BE CLASSIFIED AS A JOB ACTION DUE TO THE FACT THAT IT IS ARE CONTRACTUAL RIGHT TO CHOOSE EITHER OT OR COMP.

IF ONLY PRESIDENT DIAPER DICK WOULD GET AGGRESSIVE IN HIS LAST YEARS IN OFFICE. SHOW SOME FACE GET A LITTLE DIRTY.

SO CHECK THE MONEY BOX

Now with no 'Limpics, will Shortshanks hire some police to releave the shortages.

Or, at least put some of those cops in those alfabet units back in the districts.

Or, hire back the civilian clerks (Police Aides).

I think with Jimmy Mauer as Mayor, and new Aldermen, a lot of these problems will be solved...

Stay safe and vote.

Shortshanks treats FOP and the other unions like a trained dogs in the circus, it's all part of the city's plan.

Shortshanks is there with his whip saying...

Sit! (Contract expires)

Fetch! (Daddy needs Revenue)

Stay! (Year goes by)

Play Dead! (Another year goes by)

...interest piling up

Roll Over! (More time goes by)

...is doggie hungry?

Now Beg! (For your Retro Check)

...ooooh! There's Nooo bone!

Beg Somemore! (Interest still piling up)

Good Doggie!

Now with no 'Limpics, how about a 25% raise....4 1/2 a year, with a 2% interest bonus/penalty on the retro check.

We should take the bonus/penalty on the retro check to arbitration. If we win that we might get the future contracts settled before they expire.

After all there's no money pit 'Lympics any more.

Fellow officers, especially FOP, during these hard times we need to be smart and look down the line, especially for you newer kids. Never give anything up. Do not give up your medical days for a larger uniform allowance. Do not give up your Holidays for a 10 % raise. Unfortunately we've done this once before that I know of. We did not pay for our health insurance at one time on this job. During a contract negotiation presented by the city to the members was a extra $300.00 dollars a year in your uniform allowance if we paid $1.00 for family health insurance and still free for single officers. Flashforward......what are we paying in insurance and what are we bringing home in our uniform allowance today? Are we ahead of the game? Never ever give up anything that is already in our contract. I can't emphasize that enough. I'd rather do without a raise for a year or two then give up furlough days, bfd, personal days, holidays or medical days. FOP THIS IS FOR YOU. DO NOT GIVE UP ANYTHING WE ALREADY HAVE IN OUR CONTRACT. OFFICERS PLEASE SEE THE IMPORTANCE OF THIS WHEN YOU GO TO VOTE ON CONTRACT THROUGHOUT YOUR CAREER. AS YOU HAVE FINALLY COME TO SEE THE CITY DOESN'T GIVE UP ANYTHING THEY JUST KEEP TAKING AND TAKING AND IT GOES INTO THEIR POCKETS. PLEASE LISTEN TO THIS WARNING FOR YOUR OWN GOOD.

As a supervisor in Area 2 I can say it's a no win situation. Where I work, we bend over backwards to give time due off to everyone that wants it... then what happens? Coppers cry like bitches that they have to work 99, well, make up your mind, with the current level of manpower, which I cannot control, you can't have it both ways guys, give us a break.

No, we're not in SEIU...we're in IBEW, in the same BARGAINING unit with SEIU (TMA's, crossing guards, whatever other bullshit), but they outnumber us at least 5:1 so whatever concessions they "give" that don't affect them (like this, since most of them aren't full-time)...we're stuck with.

Seriously, the FOP might screw you all over FREquently, but be glad you're not stuck in a bargaining unit & outnumbered by people whose jobs are unrelated to yours, who don't give 2 shits what you get.

And IBEW gives 15 times of a shit less about us, than the FOP does about blue shirts, if that makes any sense.

99 with no back up....fine. Then don't bitch about the lack of activity when everyone is taking 30 jobs that are at least 2hrs old and waiting for the back up from the other 99 unit that is coming from the other side of the district.
O.T.....If I make plans to go somewhere and put in time due in advance now I have to wait the day before to see if I get the time off..... Don't even think about going on the medical with the medical rat unit. You are grounded when u are on the medical.

They want you to remember when you were denied? I don't fucking remember!

It's been a two to three year time period. I started to ask for my slips back with denied on it the the po watch secertary would say. " I threw it out" and "Just so you know, your time due was denied, I had no choice"!

Wasn't your choice in the first place or was it, DICKHEAD!!
He loved to tell people they were denied and then would have time due when he wanted it.

Fuck the survey, I want a class action lawsuit and put those watch secretaries and watch commanders on the stand and then let the P.O.'s take the stand and see what really happens.

I'm a supervisor in 006, and as far as I know...and I should know...no one has been denied time on the weekend this year.

Yes, we have a book with projected time due kept by the watch secretary. All you have to do is ask to see it. It's kept by the watch secretary because someone started crossing out names of other P.O.'s that had put in time.

The purpose of this book is to project the estimated number of P.O.s requesting time off. Until the city implements a system of hiring back officers, there does have to be a minimum staffing level. The whole watch can't request time off.

Using the projections, several P.O.s have been told that time due may be denied for the first time on 01 NOV 09, Halloween night. This is because over 15 time due requests have been submitted. The whole watch can't take time on the same day. Halloween is one of the busiest nights of the year.
