Where's the Federal Money?
- One day after summoning police and school officials to a high-level meeting on the 16-year-old's death, Daley said he would ask U.S. Attorney General Eric Holder and Education Secretary Arne Duncan for federal funding to hire more police officers "either dedicated to schools or generally."
Um, correct us if we're wrong, but didn't Shortshanks get a grant for around $13 million this past summer to hire 50 officers? The money was earmarked for three years worth of salaries and the officers had to be hired after 01 July 09. This was shortly after the 45 recruits who graduated today were hired.
So where's the COPS Grant Money? Where are the recruits that should be in the Academy right now? Why is Daley sitting on $13 million that has to be spent by the end of the fiscal year or it goes back to DC?

Chicago police on Thursday nabbed three suspects in a Lakeview street robbery even before the victim was able to call 911.
Today, charges were filed against those three men, whom police had stopped in the 3300 block of North Halsted Street for speeding and a broken tail light.

I've come to the conclusion that we are fucked until Daley, Weis and the idiot clueless exempts are gone. Daley will continue to bullshit eveyone with his band-aid plans and Weis will just keep on listening to the fucking hairbrained ideas of those who are surrounding him and don't have a clue. We have been bent over and pounded up the rear with sand instead of lube. Weis will not listen to a damn thing the coppers are bitching about unlees it has something to do with anything but our safety, contract or morale. That is why the Lieutenants sold out on their contract so they can retire and get the hell out. I'm surprised that is not the number one priority for all the department across the board. I loved this job, but now I hate coming to work. Anytime I can get off is a blessing. I'm just waiting to hit 55 so I can leave this dump of a Department and city. Why should Daley hire anymore cops. He doesn't get the blame because of slow to no police service. Neither does Weis. The guys at the bottom get the blame. That was two years ago. We are on to other scams now, too late on that one. The money is gone, mayor mumbles will blubber about something and start screeching.
My police work ethic is in inverse proportion to the evil daley foists on the city and the police department.

I'm an old time School Patrol Unit Officer out of A/4 back in the day.
The reason this unit was formed was after the shooting of Officer Ruiz and her partner at one of our better schools over on 14th & ashland.
I know that in my time in this unit there were a lot of "GOOD OFFICERS" and we worked hard every day locking up hundreds of thousands of gang bangers and recovering thousands of guns, drugs, weapons and thousands of investigative reports with arrest these last 16years, (first year we had arrested ten-thousand gang-bangers, and recovered two-thousand guns, along with drug's,weapons,etc.).
Some of us put our heart and soul into this job because we did it for the kids. Some of us worked around the clock with each and every kid that needed our help we stuck with that kid until he graduated or left that school on a 24/7 basis.
We followed their case until we made an arrest never once losing it in the system and always closed it out with positive results was a good thing.
When you can take a shit school full of gang bangers that had 18 and 21year-old idiot's with half a credit still coming to school getting the freshman girls pregnant and recruiting the freshman boys while getting them to sell drugs and do their shooting among many other things was just some of what we had to deal with.
It was in fact a day of reckoning when we came into the school's.
It was not easy because we had to go up againt the Principals, Security, GangBangers, the Parent's and everybody else in between to get the job done was not an easy task.
In the end the school's were flushed and cleaned out of all the rot that had taken 30 or 40years to get to that point, and another 15 to 20years to clean up the mess.
We all know who took the credit for all this right?! No It was'nt the Police! Remember it's our job and we did'nt mind as long as we made the peace.
Now they want to come back with this unit when they should have never taken it down or disbanded in the first place.
The District's never had to worry about the school's, you did'nt have all this media and shooting the way it is now.
Remember It took us 16years to train ourselves and It will take another 16years just to get it back to where we left it before the unit was disbanded.
You don't have any Officers now that are trained in doing what took us 16years to learn to come in and pick-up where we left off is not going to happen just like that.
Some of these School Officers are still out there but your going to have to show them that you really need them and by that I mean, give us the D-2Pay that was promised to us just like the other unit's that have since moved up to D-2 or D-2A pay!
The only Good-Job we got was when they told us two weeks prior to being disbanded to report to the district your school was in and see the Watch-Commander, your on your own!!
Cleaning out one of these school's will take a good Officer and his partner a year or two because that's how long it will take you to know who is who and the trust of the kids that will confide in you when asking for help make's all the differnce in the world to these kids!
I had to follow the arrest outside the school, in the community, in the neighborhood, in the suburbs, in other schools, or other districts, you followed that case until the end period!
You made sure that that kid knew you were behind him/her all the four years. The reward was when they would come back and say thank you was and is worth it's weight in gold and is the reason we kept going all these years.
Some wnet into the Armed Forces, some becoming the Police, and some just becoming productive citizens was always good to see the results of all the hard work you as the Officer would put into them was all they needed!

Any lawyers/attorneys/judges/or walking brains out there care to comment on procedure to make Shortshanks & his alderthieves have a policy of pure transperency on every single procedure? what can a citizen actively do to change the current system? i.e. term limits, fire half the alderthieves (not needed) with technology now adays who needs an extra 25 ALDERTHIEVES? To the officer from A/4. The school unit was in effect way before Irma was killed. P.O's were assigned to the youth div. even in the 60's. I was a part of this unit starting in the early 80's. I was also working when Irma was killed and that was 2yrs before they renamed school patrol. Also her being killed had nothing to do with the school. Which takes us back to the fact how bad the dispatchers are. She was killed because the clown working the zone of the 010th dist. didn't broadcast on city wide. The most important thing that you are right about is our sole purpose was the schools. Now with the short supply of beat officer's they may or may not make it to a school closing because of other jobs. The reason Shortshit got rid of the unit was to make it look like the districts had enough man power which they didn't and still don't.

I hope you've been keeping up on your fitness so you can run fast when things blow up!
