Three Man Rapids

Well, it's finally happened. Reports are coming in that certain districts are so short cars (with ZERO pool cars available citywide) that after manning all the primary cars as 10-4, they have to put three officers to a car just to get people out of the station.

What the hell is Fleet doing to alleviate this?

Is this related to any of the mechanics at the garages being laid off and their buddies are slow in their repair time to get back at the city?

Cars are being pulled in early from days to man 3rd watch

If you think that's bad, you should see how bad it is with the wagons. Our wagon has 170,000 miles and is beat to shit. The front end rattles from bad front end parts, the driver's side of the dashboard falls right off into your lap, none of the interior lights work, the computer mount is broken, etc, etc, etc.

There's hardly ever any pool wagons, so we're usually stuck with what we got. When we do report the problems (when it goes down for grease and oil) somehow, it never gets fixed properly and we're back to square one with the same old piece of crap.

The city's solution is to phase in those stupid vans that requires a totally cooperative arrestee who's willing to crouch down and crawl in while their hands are cuffed behind their backs.

Have you ever tried to get a drunk, a mental or a police fighter into one of those things???

FO-GETTABOUTIT!!!

It ain't gonna happen.

The Tahoes aren't much better as regular squad cars, from what I've heard.

Whoever's in charge of the decisions on our cars and wagons should be arrested for assault on a police officer for the crap they give us to work with.

I have seen this in 8, 9, 10, 12 and I think 1 because I travel/drive a lot in for my job. So, aside from being short POs, we are short cars for these shorted POs? Be afraid...be VERY afraid!!

No cars for PO's to ride in? - no problem. They'll just reduce the number of beat cars like in the past. Years ago 014 had 25 primary beats and 20 rapid or sector cars. No cars? reduce the number of beats to 16 primary beats and 16 sector cars. What, still not enough squad cars? Reduce the the wagons to 1 wagon in each district.

SCC, as my partner and I were driving around the other night we saw construction about to begin at a school on the north side. Of course we were guessing exactly what it was that was going to be done. My partner said they were probably putting in trailers to address overcrowded classrooms- which is probably correct. I then asked "How is it that in the past our city built incredible buildings with such amazing architecture and now we have to settle for trailers to educate our children?" If you look around the city the oldest buildings must have cost a fortune (if adjusted for today's rates) with all the labor needed to create them. How is it that the city managed to not be broke then? The answer was simple.....
#1. Everyone pulled their weight. I'm sure there were programs to help some people then but I'm sure it wasn't nearly the vast amount of "nipple sucking" we have going on today
#2. I'm sure there were the back door business deals then and clout still gave way to clout but it probably was a drop in the bucket compared to the crap goin on in Crook county and Shitcago that's goin on today.
#3. People were not lazy. Men who went to work were proud of their jobs. It truly was an honest days work for an honest day's pay. Today, it takes 5 guys to do the job 1 man did and 4 of the 5 bitch they are working too hard.

Catholic/private schools were filled, not closing yearly. "Illegals" were almost non existent.
Americans bought American goods, and Americans were PROUD to be American. Were there many foreign flags flying on peoples cars back then??
This city....hell, this country is being run into the shitter and it breaks my heart to think about what it will be like for my children to have to grow up and live their lives in this place.
And before you trolls say "well leave then." just tell me of a place that was the way America used to be and I'll gladly go there.
Sorry for the rant SCC. I just know at least you'll take a minute to listen.....

If that Lover Boy over at fleet was doing his job rather than playing golf and chasing broads perhaps you would have some decent equipment. Wagons? Fleet has not purchased any wagons since they took control of EMMD. Pool cars? Fleet sold them all as junk to Northshore towing. Salvage parts? Fleet took all the salvage parts that were aquired, & warehoused by the EMMD police administration and literally through them away. Fix cars? Forget about that, fleet jobs out whatever they can. Don't expect their political hack staff to fix anything, they have no skills. I could go on about this but it comes down to the fact that the main guy, Lover Boy, hates the cops and encourages his staff to be less responsive to the police than they would to a garbage truck driver pulling into one of their facilities. However, take notice of things like, Lover Boys city car! Loaded with police radio's, full unmarked light and siren package. The garage managers and ranking supervisory administrators all drive police unmarked vehicles. Take notice when your around a fleet police facility of fleet personnel driving police vehicles, to go to lunch or for personal business. Hell, even the R men use your marked cars as their service vehicles. Sorry to say but thats how it is and it is not changing anytime soon!

The second guy was a Kronos swipe clock installer for the city. Neither of these two hacks have the appropriate FCC license to work on those police radios but got the jobs anyway. One is an 11th. ward heavy and the other is a local 134 heavy. Shows you how much fleet cares about Officer safety. Those radios represent the lifeline for a PO.

Last time we had three manned cars was in the Blizzard of 1979. One to drive and stay with the car. The other two were needed to push because the car would get stuck every 15 minutes or walk the rest of the way to respond to the job. Nothing was moving and the ruts would normally lead to a stranded vehicle blocking the street. Went on for about 5 successive 3rd watch tours. It was fun!

Cars are being put down for bullshit reasons...

I am an old timer with a knowledge of the history of the city and this department, the city and of the Daley Crime Family. E.M.M.D. or Fleet Management may be going about this the wrong way.

Remember that we use to have TEAMSTER City Tow Truck Drivers, but they would play games with that job. Set us easy Tow Zone traps, tow 7 cars and they could go home (or to their other job.)
Two hours into our our tours and we couldn't get tows.

Richie "outsourced" their job to E&R towing with a little help from State Senator Jeremiah Joyce.

We used to have UNION Janitors, here again they would let our station look like shitholes (cops can be real slobs). They laid down on the job, sometimes literally and now Aguirre Building Maintance has the contract.

So be careful, Shortshanks probably has a Campaign Contributor lined up ready to take your jobs.

Fleet Sucks, just ask any mechanic in the garages, all 4 garages have managers that do not a thing about cars and how they run, Granted the city has not purchased anything new since 2005, and then a couple of hundred Tahoos. The mechanics got screwed so why should they work extra hard, they do the work by book time, and if they finish earlier then they just stall around, take a car in for an oil change and you may, I say may get it back, The mayor does not want any cars out on the street that have body damage, he went crazy when he saw a squad on T.V. with the paint peeling off the bumper, well that goes to show you that his political friends who own the body shop are cutting corners, because the paint on the bumpers does not peel if done right, he doesn;t care that the cars are beaters, its all smoke and mirrors. someone please call the newspapers. What about NAPA and thier contract for parts, we have so so many cars done waiting for parts.

Why don't they borrow some cars from 003?
They got like 35 openings.. So they must have cars.

This problem has been building ever since Fleet took over. Ritchie's childhood buddy Degnan was in charge at Fleet. If a private company ran itself like Fleet is handling our cars they'd be out of business. The situation would be laughable if it weren't so downright dangerous. I think it's time for the F.O.P. to make a statement and let the public know the sad state of affairs at Fleet. The public really should know how Ritchie has chosen to pinch pennies and it's directly affecting our,and consequently their, safety.
Ritchie: maybe it's time to put the failed Olympic bid behind you and start tending to all the things you've ignored over the last three years while you had tunnelvision on the Olympics.

Im' a P.O in the Strike Force, we have a bunch of ratty squad cars but we have a Sgt. who is in charge of the cars, This guy is a miracle worker, I don't know how he does it but he gets them fixed, We just leave him a write up note and he gets it done, He is in charge of the Command Van & All the trucks in the unit and this guy knows his stuff, He has been driving trucks longer then I have been on this earth, too bad he will be retiring someday. I really don't know what they are going to do without this Sgt. He is a top shelf guy and a real gentleman. He's a hold over from SOS and has tons of knowledge, I wish we had a few more like him.

I'd like to see that little fake copper try to impersonate us now! He's gonna really stand out fake-driving an imaginary squad down 71st and East End. Although they say he's good with a con, so you never know.

If you'd listen to Former Fleet instead of ridiculing him you'd learn quite a bit. Sometimes it's even important to listen to what you DON'T hear. Fleet is probably never supervised on weekends because some people are canoodling at a lakeside Michigan condo w/an indoor parking garage. I can talk now, I told the feds months ago. I hope the Skyway toll was paid if company time was stolen. That would be just too stupid to save a couple bucks and sign the board with the vehicle# right? Who's that dumb?

Stop whining all you two year wonder, hair gel police. What's the big deal? When I came on we didn't even have many cars, most guys were on foot beats. The cars we did have didn't have radios, air conditioning, cloth seats etc. We didn't have this bullet proof body armour stuff, computers, portable radios, mace,Tazers or any of this other high faluttin stuff you crybabies have now. If I wanted to talk to my Sgt or W/C I had to walk down the street to a callbox and use that. Stop complaining, and make do with what you have.

10/08/2009 07:19:00 AM

I was here before all that stuff also but the bad guys then didn't have the stuff they have now! Mentals were kept in hospitals, nursing homes were for the elderly. Bad guys couldn't get around any better than us. We are out manned and out gunned AND everyone is for the HONOR STUDENTS..not Us! People back then had respect for the badge...NOT NOW! These kids are at a disadvantage.

Sorry for the rant SCC. I just know at least you'll take a minute to listen.....

Many compare Uruguay to 1950s America. (Clean, safe, low crime rate, strong economy, respectful citizens, etc)You can still leave your doors unlocked.

Check out the Capitol city of Montevideo.

This problem is not going away anytime soon! Picardi takes over the police garages and the police fleet of vehicles, fucks everything up! He is then moved to streets and sanitation, fucks everything up! Guess what? They move him back to fleet so he can make matters even worst for the police. Could it be that the little cocksucker from the fifth floor is using Picardi to extract his revenge on the police? Just wondering.

A point of information; fleet recently hired a couple of new guys to fix the radios. The first guy was a light bulb and telephone changer at police headquarters.
------------------------------------------

Now tell me that shortshanks & Picardi don't have a vendetta against the police!

In the A3 lot there are dozens of downed cars but no mechanics to fix them. The mechanics who were not laid off are behind and they are still forced to take extra days off... nice incentive to work harder eh short shanks?

I will gladly take a CTA bus to my radio assignments if it comes to that. Then I will announce to every person on every bus what I am doing and why. I will urge every citizen on every bus to make waves and call their alderman or call a radio station or newspaper or the mayor's office, whose phone number I will gladly provide. I will then walk from the bus stop to my assignment and tell the person who called the police the exact reason why it took so long.

Use your heads office, they make our working lives miserable, throw it right back at them. Tell the truth to the citizen tax payers who depend on the police showing up when they need a cop.

The city is $600MIL in the red. Thats their number, who knows what it really is? You are not getting more cars. Someone posted you are going to have to take the bus to jobs? Heres an idea from a citizen troller. Thumb it. We citizens will be happy to give you a ride to the job. But no shooting! How is that for thinking outside the box? Its either that or you will have to cab it. But more cars? Forget about it.

When I started my illustrious career as a Chicago Police Officer, I had to pay the watch commander and sgt. $40 a month for a Michigan Ave. footpost. Those were the days, my friend...

Subject: You are a cranky old coot

You also sold pencils on traffic stops, drank on duty, and made $10,000 a year. Should we continue to do that also? Oh, that's right, you also scored 4 touchdowns in a single high-school football game. Times change, and you can't live in your glorious past forever.
