March or No March?

It's been popping up all over the place. We've gotten a few dozen e-mails and about twice that in text messages. The comments are getting repetitive. Even Shaved has a full post on it.

It appears to be a wildcat march. No one is admitting being behind it or organizing it. There doesn't appear to be any transport to or from downtown.

Is FOP going to get out in front of it? Or are they resigned to the fact that arbitration is underway and claim a march serves no purpose? We like a full accounting as to where all the money Shortshanks is hiding from selling everything not nailed down. And a larger accounting of what money was spent to acquire the Michael Reese land.

There's still a lot of questions that demand answers.

What has the FOP been out in front of? All I see and hear is silence and more silence.

Where have they been?

Coppers being murdered, unjustly incarcerated, unjustly fired, unjustly suspended, working for over two years with no contract, getting slammed daily in the media and NOTHING!

Time for change and for our collective voice to be seen and heard.

The FOP are only concerned about their golden goose payoff retirment gigs.

The citizens are aware that there are not enough police and that crime is surging. They know they need us and that we are underpaid.

I'd go. I don't think it should be about the Olympics or anything like that, just to remind the citizens that that building is full of corruption. Remind everyone of all the scandals over the last 10-15 years. It's so crazy and more and more people are realizing it. Keep reminding them, and tell the old school streets & san guys to get real!

If there's a poll, count me in.
I'm all for it. Our own little tea party.

This shouldn't even be about our contract, that's kind of a moot point. We're in arbitration. But it would never hurt to pique the arbitrator's curiosity about all of that $$$ that came in from the skyway, the meters, etc. Is all of that money spent already? Is the Daley / Vanenko spending spree over? Where is there any oversight in City Hall?

SCC, we need your help again, ask for Opinions and tally up the results. I'm in, it's only for a couple of hours, and it's fun to see everyone you haven't seen in a while. Kind of like an open post in real life. Bring your signs!

MARCH, MARCH, MARCH I say. Even for no other reason than to let him know I'm mad as hell he mismanaged City liquidity soooooo badly. No contract, walks away from bargaining table for nothing but drama, J-Fed and his #930,000 contract, raiding pension funds to make his family members rich. Even if I'm the only human being walking around the block, I'll be there.

While I am not against the idea of marching against city hall, I am not going to interrupt my life and head downtown on the suggestion of an ANONYMOUS crusader who has heaven knows what PERSONAL AGENDA or score to settle.

Whoever is behind the onslaught of posted comments to march today, may I suggest that you step out of the shadows, identify and explain yourself and stop trying to "call out" the figures YOU think should respond and show up at YOUR march.

I can't imagine I'm alone in this opinion.

TIF funds were used to purchase Michael Reese Hospital.

This entire city is in a TIF!

That means those funds that would have normally gone to the general fund are now stuck in a TIF fund for 20 years!

The residents that live in TIF areas get the same city services taht the rest of us do. However, the city services are supposed to be paid for with those TIF funds.
They are not. Those city services come out of the same general fund as ALL city services do.

Hence = budget shortfall and slush fund for Daley!

More chance j-fed will beseech the Justice Department to release Cozzi because of a miscarriage of justice. More chance all merit bosses will turn in heir stars and claim they don't really deserve those promotions. More chance that the Cubs will finish the 2010 season 120-42 and win the World Series.

More chance my 1st wife will send a letter of apology. In short, there is no chance at all that anything good or honest or decent or right will ever spring from the mouth of mayor mumbles, the stuttering prick, shortshanks the miserable bastard.

mayor silly was publicly embarrassed and humiliated. I dont think a march willdoa damn thing. However, writing paper for every little incident then going door to door to get more info will cause a bigger back log.

Make a ton of traffi stops. But dont write a ticket, just fill out the BS blue card. And of course block traffic to cause grid lock during the T-stop.

Then...NO NUMBERS! take your time but be efficient when responding and handling jobs. Make the city come to a complete stop with nothing but backlogs and chaos!

Remember to only think of the end result.

A march without the support of the FOP only shows Daley we are weak in negotiations because we are not unified. On top of that, he could easily spin it against us, saying there are many people who can't even find a job. What's to be gained by an unsanctioned march? I don't see it. They don't call it a union for nothing, no matter how screwed up you think the FOP is. Maybe time might be better spent forming a group of cops who are willing to campaign against Daley in the next election. Even if they lose, a close vote could harm him badly and a true opponent could put many of the issues out front for the voters to see. Daley is weaker now than ever. A march? I don't see it.

I don't think this is the time to march. Not enough first responders know about this and a small turn out would hurt our cause. Lets wait and do a date in the future that will enable the largest turnout of us, city workers, and community groups and have 1 message: Not fire Jody, not raises(already in arbitration & cause is specific to us)make the cause the need for more police officers. This will allleviate most of our problems and will get the public behind us since this is a cause that directly affects them.

Daley: Olympics failure won't impact my popularity

Mayor Richard Daley today said he doesn't think the city's Olympic bid defeat will have any impact on his popularity and that he hasn't decided yet whether to run for a seventh term in 2011. Daley5

At his first City Hall news conference since Chicago failed to land the 2016 Summer Games, Daley was asked if he expected to pay any political price for the loss.

"None whatsoever" Daley replied.

Marching tomorrow morning will show this sociopath that Chicagoan's have had enough of his BS. It's time to give us a fair contract and to stop crucifying us.

Bring on the Arbitrator for our Contract, and have him immediately look over Daleys books, along with the IRS. enough is enough with this phony bastard's Shell Game with Taxpqyers Dollars. Once the Arbitrator sees that Daley can't back up all his crying poor, due to any reason other than his incompetence, the Arbitrator can't possibly punish the Police with poor or no raise, or backpay because of the knuckle-head Daley Administration mismanagment, theft, and corruption. The appointed Arbitrator's reputation would be forever destroyed if he fell for Daleys bullshit and screwed the working police of CPD, the ONLY ones who generate actual Revenue for the City. Make Daley open the books and explain where all the Taxpayers dollars went to, then have the FEDS/IRS indict him, and he could go down just like Al Capone did. The Feds should haqve already done this decades ago, but don't appear to be legit either anymore, or are being intimidated from higher-up politicians, who, in that case, should be locked up. F[L]OP, we're ALL watching you, so you'd better see to it that this is done, and done right.

Mock me if it makes you feel better, dude, but I stand by what I said:

I have seen nothing but anonymous posts on this, one after another, all with the same writing style and sentence structure and some exact repeats under different topics.

While I am not against the idea of marching against city hall, I am not going to interrupt my life and head downtown on the suggestion of an ANONYMOUS crusader who has heaven knows what PERSONAL AGENDA or score to settle.

Whoever is behind the onslaught of posted comments to march, may I suggest that you step out of the shadows, identify and explain yourself and stop trying to "call out" the figures YOU think should respond and show up at YOUR march.

I can't imagine I'm alone in this opinion.

10/06/2009 03:21:00 AM

And let me further add that this is VERY DISORGANIZED AND POORLY PLANNED with a very VAGUE GOAL in mind other than maybe to try to intimidate or embarrass city hall (which benefits us how, exactly?) and there doesn't seem to be real strong support.

Sorry! I'm not running downtown at the urging of ANONYMOUS comments on a blog WHEN WE CAN'T EVEN VERIFY IF THE COMMENTER IS A POLICE OFFICER.

The rest of you can be led by the nose by Mr Anonymous if you choose, but don't say I didn't warn you!

No, what this idiot is saying is that he/she thinks that there is only one, single poster trying to stir up interest in a second protest march around city hall on Wednesday, October 7th, at 10am.

And that there is something wrong with both a single poster trying to encourage participation in said second protest and, by implication, in anyone participating in same.

Who do you think would want to discourage a second protest?

Don't question other peoples decisions?
Apparently Markie's ability to gauge the needs of the membership and let a contract go on for 2yrs plus goes unchallenged! Read the city wide propaganda when they ran for election and see if you can keep from laughing.
Markie ran as a reformer to Nolan?
Everyone of those inside guys sold their souls for the easiest spot on this job and still have the title of police. At #170,000 do you think Markie cares about your contract or what you deal with everyday? I have 38+ and still on the street not an inside guy when Markie goes I go.........

Following is an online comment from a Tribune reader regarding a videotaped DUI arrest, the accusation being that the offender was not drunk but the police officer lied (etc, etc)

Scary person on October 6, 2009 7:01 PM
It is incredibly surprising that no one has started initiating vigilante justice against the CPD. Exact same issues as with the Abatte debacle. Plenty of other cops standing around watching one of their own breaking the laws. If they can't police themselves on their own how can they be trusted to interact with the rest of society in a respectable fashion. Every major city has bad cops, the City of Chicago doesn't have any good cops to stop the bad ones :(

So our public wants to take up the sword against us, the march won't bring change because no one cares about us. We stand alone against the mayor, the s*itheads, and now the public. Time for the good guys to ride off into the sunset.

I'm disappointed in society as a whole and have nooooo guilt about riding job to job anymore. It's unfortunate I have to be like this because I really enjoyed doing this job for a long time. If Tim took a certain action on a grievance there was a reason. I worked with him on many grievances. It took me a while to get to know him, at first I thought he was arrogant but I learned he just didn't like to take the time to explain himself.

Once I learned to read between the lines a bit and to trust him I found him to be very hard working and loyal to the regular PO. He always returned calls, even late at night.

I learned to depend on him and he never let me or any other PO down as far as I know. He is still deeply missed down there.

You do realize that FOP is composed of people you voted into office. These are people that you put in place they didn't come from FOP they came from you. Do you really think things would be different with a different union. Either it would be people you vote in or people you have no control over. Use your control and vote for the people you want.

Maybe next time state your name to verify if you are truly a cop to make your march a little more credible.

LOL asshat, good one. I'm not Jimmy K but nice try. I guess you don't comprehend very well. I stated like others have that if you are going to try to have a march at least organize it well so maybe me as well as other cops will show up to support it like the first organized march. Obviously this half ass march didn't go over very well now did it, asshat!!!
