OT, but did you see the news about man killed on foster and st. louis. he was found with multiple gunshot wounds. police are investigating a "death investigation." THIS is how the homicide numbers are kept down. Upper echelons classify murders as death investigations, then reclassify them after the new year. some muckraker in the media should ask weis how many death investigations will be reclassified homicides and how this will affect annual stats.

They have been using the "Death Investigation" for years. Some supervisors think it makes a difference and it doesn't. Follow the orders of the Supv on the scene if it makes him happy.
The dicks change it when they get the autopsy results.
If it is a homicide, it is a homicide and they make it that way in the supps. If it is undetermined, it is that way too.
Michael Scott's case was a death investigation for weeks even though we all knew it was a suicide at the time.

For your information, in case you have not completed a report in a while, there are boxes on the report for date and time. Also on a death an R.D. number is assigned. So, when the death is re-classified to a Homicide the only thing that changes is the offense/classification. Not the date, time, year or R.D. number. Hence, the Homicide will be counted in the same year as the original death report.

When I worked at the Park District(dating my self) I made sure that 001,021 and any stray unit KNEW that the underground garage at Mc Cormick place was open and available for Police Use.I remember opening the steel roll down door one NYE finding 15 cars and a wagon lined up on the ramp. I put up long folding tables and we commenced to ENJOY NYE with sammiches,SOFT drinks(yeah right) and Music. The nice part was the door rolled down and no one knew we were there. Damn I miss that.

We concur heartily with your assessment of young Master's ailment though in actuality he has NO business being in the position he's in... Period. This defines virtually the entire exempt echelon of CPD. Members of the lucky sperm club through injection, ingestion or gestation in addition to political/social/ethnic affiliation.
If your loyalty or bloodline was suspect or you were on the periphery and couldn't crack the "inner sanctum" but somebody "liked" you, then you maybe were allowed to just flat out purchase a gold star. (bulk ticket purchases, fund raisers etc.)
Don't let the "meritcloutorious bossholes" fool you. They're no smarter or better qualified to run this department than the 5yr blueshirt in 007, 011 or any of the other garden spots. You, my dear, have just described the human condition. Corrupt, inept, superficial cowards at the top after clawing, scratching and cajoling their petty beings into supervisory or governing positions.
The best of human nature will always be found on the front lines where courage, bravery, integrity, heart and kindness exist day after day and may never be acknowledged or recognized, certainly not by those who do not possess those same virtues or are intimidated by them.
