• A man who allegedly barricaded himself in his estranged girlfriend’s Southeast Side apartment Thursday morning after shots were exchanged with police officers has been taken into custody.

  The man peacefully surrendered to police at 2:40 p.m. and a handgun was recovered from the scene, a police source said.

• The girlfriend called police when the estranged boyfriend showed up at her house, the police source said. The apartment building was evacuated by police and no one was injured. It is unclear how many people were displaced, but the man did not have any hostages.

  Police said they responded to a violation of an order of protections and when they arrived, the suspect fired shots at them. Officers then fired back...
