A Little Too Odd

Anyone else smell a setup here?
  • Female investigator from IPRA came into 001st yesterday. Apparently was being pretty evasive to the desk crew. Apparently after taking a statement from a citizen she decided to go work out in the building's gym. While doing so she left her IPRA issued radio and laptop on a chair. After finishing her workout (on company time!) she left for home. Realizing that she forgot the radio and laptop she returned to find that you know what! Also, she could provide almost no info on the radio and what was on the laptop. Hope nothing too sensitive.
Why would IPRA take a statement in 001 when they have their own office building at IIT? And we certainly hope no one would be stupid enough to steal a piece of equipment that probably has tracking software installed that calls the police for help the minute you plug it into a phone jack or try to surf the internet.

Something is rotten in Denmark.

This will sound bad on it's face, but think about it...

I hope it was stolen by a policeman.

I hope it was the guy who stole my flashlight, baton, raincoat and car cell phone charger or the other things I forgot in the car or in the station, or failed to keep close tabs on because we work with "good guys". I understand that it is my fault for not caring for my own property, we've all given that speech before we hand the fine citizen their "Magic Number/RD"

I hope it was that guy makes everybody else look bad when he steals from criminals and unsuspecting people alike and thinks he's so smooth he'll never get caught or no one will catch on.
I hope they track it to his home where he has numerous other "lost" items from over the years, that he has conveniently forgotten to inventory.

I hope he's on the 10 O'clock news, the Blog and the Advocate Newsletter reporting his crime, suspension/firing and sentence.I expect to read about what a great guy he is, the "real police" and how he was "framed" or "entrapped" and how could anybody think about doing that in the age of GPS and ubiquitous cameras.

I hope he was up to a lot of scams that get discovered by this misstep or "minor mistake".

I hope Second City Cop posts this comment written by a policeman, who is not without flaws but would not take what isn't mine, and has returned wallets, money, jewelry, phones, guns(!), Ipods, even when no one was watching, so to speak.

I hope he's reading this right now.

I hope that even though he has Clout, Merit, a phonecall, is heavy, knows people, knows tings, tests well(wink), knows where the bodies are buried, has compromising pictures of the Mayor and (insert your most hated politician/celebrity here), his Daddy/Momma is a boss, they still get the same punishment as someone with no Connections.
Sorry, disregard this post loyal reader, it seems we have a bad connection. We now return you to your regularly scheduled program, "Ultimate Tact Warrior Meets Missy The Parking Guru: Clash of the Blowhards"

REALIZING THIS, SHE GOES BACK TO CLAIM /ALLEDGE TAT SOMEONE FROM 001 DIST MAY HAVE TAKEN OR RELOCATED THE EQUIPMENT. WORKING OUT ON COMPANY TIME IS AGAINST THE GENERAL ORDERS. CR # SHOULD ALSO BE GIVEN. LOSING EQUIPMENT ,FALSE REPORT, WORKING OUT, OH YEAH BRINGING DISCREDIT ON THE DEPT.

If there is tracking software in the laptop ( Comcast ), ask any property crimes detective about the problems encountered. First you need a subpoena for the provider to get the IP address, then you need to get a search warrant for the address of the home which contains the computer. No one wants to do this. The board of education has many laptops with tracking devices installed, property crimes detectives do not wnt to bother. I highly doubt a setup, just stupidity.

THIS IS A PROBLEM.
a HUGE Problem, lest I remind you of the "policeman" that walked into 003 and worked half a day.
DESK PERSONELL NEED TO WAKE THE HECK UP.(sorry guys)
I regularly have business with A/3,A/2,A/4 and A/1 and REGULARLY enter these Stations while working and ARMED. EACH AND EVERY TIME,I go to the desk, advise the Sgt or at least a competent looking PO of my reason for being there, submit my credentials if and when asked, ask the necessary PERMISSIONS,and THEN go about my business either with Detectives or Tactical Personnel. And Ive been doing this for the past 23 YEARS the same way EACH TIME. It is beyond me that a non sworn,(like me by the way)isnt stopped and challenged and told to wait while she is CONFIRMED. There are certain areas in Station and Areas(bosses offices,Range, and other sensitive areas) that should ALWAYS BE off limits to non escorted non sworn personnel. I,like any other civilian am NO EXCEPTION to this and when I AM challenged I take absolutely no offense and THANK THE OFFICER. Of course then again, I RESPECT the work you all do and RESPECT the fact that your job has become a 3 ring politically saturated cess pool. This IPRA employee (i wouldnt even DIGNIFY her with the title of investigator)should have NEVER EVER been allowed to saunter into these areas unchecked. While I agree that it does happen,it shouldnt on many levels. The lesson here is now we know. Now,you SHOULD stop IPRA from owning you when they walk in to YOUR station.See my angle here? MORE

Not to toss POST 911 around but,
WHAT IF.......

While Im sure its mundane and relaxed at the desk in some Districts, this COULD HAVE BEEN a test of Station Security.I also realize that you become familiar with "regulars" in and out of the station BUT a spot check now and then wouldnt hurt.
I remember standing at the Desk in 19 when a well dressed M-1 came in and tried to walk to the back, past the desk.I,for what reason I still dont know, looked at him and said "excuse me Sir where are you going?" The REASON I did that was not because he was M-1 or any of that but because despite the well taylored suit,he was wearing tattered and worn out Nike shoes. He was met by the Sgt and it was determined that he was a relative of one of the arrestees in lockup and was trying to get back to him. On his person was found a knife and a few small bags of suspect crack cocaine. It was further determined that the individual was mentally unstable. The Point here is that I was observant enough to notice and to further notice that he didnt fit the picture and his actions were suspect.(NO ONE sweats like a pig when its 15 Below) Im NOT saying give everyone the 3rd Degree as Weis wants a "customer friendly police department" (huh?) what i AM saying is be more alert to who and what is walking in. This while minor in scope COULD HAVE BEEN far far worse.

Just lookin out for youse guys.

I forgot it running out of the car, running in late after a screaming domestic, stopped in traffic to yell at some dumb motherfucker in traffic rather than write him a ticket.
When you put your greasy mitts on it and put it in your pocket/bag/car you are no better than them.
And you know the *them* I'm talking about.

Why?

Why would I care?

Would the Watch Commander back me up when the civilian or the IPRA member says I beat her, or robbed her, or insulted her, or called her racist/sexist/homophobic/animalistic names?

Station security is not my job. My locker is locked. I've been guarding my property like I was on the floor in County jail since my baton went missing forty minutes after I got to my first district assignment.

Fuck this department! They will reap what they have sown.

The comments about cutting a CR# on the IPRA investigator are ridiculous. Only Department members get CRs, there are different procedures for other City employees, including IPRA.

Also, if the investigator really did lose a radio & laptop, I can guarantee that she will either take days and/or pay the cost of the equipment out-of-pocket. IPRA doesn't joke around with losing/damaging city property.

Finally, IPRA investigators regularly take statements in district stations -- when momma calls to complain that the police beat her baby boy, IPRA sends out investigators to interview the "victim" at the station (or hospital), and observe injuries. On rare occasions IPRA will interview a CPD Member at the station -- usually for the convenience of the officer.

Y'all are paranoid.

No way....
Over the last 20 years, I have had the following taken from a squad, rollcall, tact office, front desk, etc.
2 flash lights
1 cell phone - from my hat at rollcall
2 pair of gloves - winter
1 baton
1 cpd winter cap
1 traffic bool holder - leather
1 bullet proof vest -unreal
1 scarf
1 gym bag with smelly wears inside
1 ohio state sweatshirt

and they want to lower the standards.
I love the CPD, but there are plenty of strokes on this job.

Somewhat off topic:

I have been told by people in the know (managment) That there is a M/2 IPRA investigator (I use term loosely) First name Dennis, Last name starts with a K, badge number 282, who likes to drink at a bar located in 018th at 16 West Ontario Street. He is there almost every other day drinking and claiming to be the police. They now know he is not and attempted to make a complaint but IPRA didn't seem to care. Its now info for the police, watch your backs if you happen to be in that tavern and a goof with glasses is their claiming to be on the job and teach on his days off...He is a IPRA RAT.

Stay Safe all
