Um, Duh

  • The White House announced Tuesday it is halting the transfer of Guantanamo Bay detainees to Yemen, a move that could complicate President Barack Obama's plans to close the controversial prison.

It also stands to sharply increase the number of Guantanamo inmates who could be moved to rural Thomson, Ill., site of a state prison the Obama administration wants to buy and operate as a federal prison and military detention center.

Some supporters have sold the idea of "Gitmo North" to local residents as the destination for no more than 100 former Guantanamo detainees, though the White House has never committed to that limit.

Ninety-one Yemeni detainees currently make up almost half the 198 detainees remaining in the U.S. facility on a naval base in Cuba.

So many Yemenis seem to "escape" local prisons once they get back home and then are mysterious caught, wounded or killed on Afghanistan and Iraqi battlefields that one has to wonder if Governor Quinn had a direct hand in helping release them from Gitmo the way he's littering Chicago and Illinois streets with violent felons committing brazen homicides on tape.

Of course many of the Yemenis left at Gitmo are people that Bush admitted had had no role in terrorism. Keeping them detained at this point seems more like politics than law enforcement, let alone anything to do with war. Certainly there are dangerous men among the 90-odd Yemenis. There are also a bunch whose freeing would make us safer. But it won't happen for a little longer because of domestic politics.

Its hard to argue with giving jobs to fellow Illinoisans, but this being said, criminal trials for these pieces of shit is fucking absurd! I believe the prison here will not bring any more terrorist threats or activity than is already here, but they need to make sure to treat the shitheads the way they deserve to be treated!

Open Thomson to help relieve overcrowding in the current prisons....leave the terrorists at GB.

Check out this scenario: The detainees at Gitmo are transferred to Illinois. One of the bottom feeding civil rights lawyers with the support of the ACLU and others files a suit in federal court seeking their release on federal habeas corpus writs. One of the left wing federal judges in the Northern District of Illinois (the majority of them) grants the writs. The detainees might be released pending an appeal. You can be 100% sure that the petitions for writs of habeas will be filed if these detainees come to Illinois.

OT, kind of. The only good terrorist is a dead terrorist...or 14 dead terrorists.

*************************

How would releasing suspected terrorists make us safer? This sounds like blind liberal logic here so I'm asking how you got to that conclusion.

Also, do you know of any prison in any town that has NOT shown an increase of undesireables moving into said town? Generally the families of inmates, etc. Is that something we want to bring to Illinois? Why not I guess, Detroit already has a Muslim problem..it makes sense to spread it here, too.

Is there any guarantee that any of the current guards much less the other residents of the area would be qualified to be guards at a federal facility? We could end up with guards just being moved from other federal facilities and current guards being let go. With this government there are NO guarantees. Just hollow promises in order to get done what they want to get done at the time. Look at Healthcare...is it what they originally claimed???

Democrats and Republicans voted today whether or not the Illinois prison should be sold to the Feds. Quinn’s response was that it didn’t matter what the results of the vote were, the choice was his. What, the choice is his? These elected officials forget that they work for the people. The people should decide whether or not a prison gets sold to the feds. Quinn thinks more jobs will come with a federal prison. If the Illinois prison is opened up to Illinois inmates which will alleviate overcrowding as is the common complaint, won’t this also influx jobs into the community. Too many leaders today forget that they serve us, not themselves. Take the Mayor, he makes decisions all the time for Chicago without taking the pulse of the people. The sheep are so accustomed to being told this is how it is, that they forget they have the ability to speak up and question his position. The sheep think these elected leaders are Kings and can do as they please. Time to Tea Bag these leaders. Quinn doesn’t speak for me and neither does Daley.

I say close Gitmo today and trasfer all of the inmates to division one of the cook county jail. That would solve the problem
