Yeah, This Will Work

  • Starting January 18, the price of a Chicago Tribune newspaper at newsstands is going up to $1. That's a 25 cent increase.

The last time the Tribune raised its cover price was two years ago.

The increase does not apply to the Sunday edition or home subscriptions.

The paper's owner, Tribune Company, is in bankruptcy.

Anyone want to bet how far the circulation numbers fall after January?

The Tribune stinks. Can't find anything anymore. No top ten best selling books, things tend to move around. I'm ready to cancel it.

I kept my subscription through Christmas, just to get my hands on the sales flyers. Frankly, the emails from Target, Macy's, etc., had equal or better sales coupons and info.

I'm going to cut it down to just Sundays now. The anti-police bias is getting to be too much, and I'll be telling them exactly that when I call to cut it down to Sundays.

The shitbag who bought the Tribune Company, with no money of his own, bought it with the sole purpose of destroying the Chicago Tribune Newspaper. The paper used to be an exellent source of news and views, but it had enemies. The price raising will finish off the paper. No more free thought!

Every entity that gets in bed with Daley eventually dies a horribly suffering, lingering death. Obama's presidency is dead. Fitzgerald's credibility dead. Olympics dead. Oprah in chicago dead. CPD pension almost dead. His buddies dead, suicide or indicted or prison. Papers that back him to the bone, almost dead. CPD bosses blinded, deaf, wounded and hanging on for dear life. Buisness in Chicago dead. J-Fed credibility in law enforcement dead. McCormick Place dead. Police board credibility dead. Parking meter revenue dead. People that voted for Daley ... suffering, lingering ,horrible, stumbling like Rocky Balboa in the 14th round but won't make the same mistake again... CRIME IN CHICAGO IS THRIVING.

This is a tragedy. The Trib used to be the conservative drive of this city. It is now run by ultra left wing democratic liberals, and they have run it to the ground... just like the city, state and white house administration. It's the democratic way.

The Fourth Estate brought about it's own demise. They became the voice of the left.

There has always been a bias to the Mainstream Media, but it was a lean towards the home front: USA, God, the Military and Police that keep the families safe. This helped to keep our Nation's spirit strong. They didn't need to be cheerleaders, but they should have at least remained neutral.

The fame that Woodward and Bernstein (sp?) enjoyed was like a drug to the Media. They all wanted their 15 minute of fame and would do almost anything to get it. They wanted to be the story instead of reporting the story. Putting their pictures on their columns is a good example. Their integrity was in question because of their slide to the Dark Side and it was the beginning of the end.

When you couldn't trust what they wrote, they became unnecessary. To get the real story these days you have to seek out many sources and filter through the lies. Too bad, many aren't smart enough, and most are too uninvolved to do the work to seek the truth.

Dropped my Trib subscription a couple of weeks ago. They tried calling me to renew but I told them I do not like their slant.

To all you "journalists" out there -try writing and reporting without interjecting your liberal uninformed bias.

The explosion of BLOGS and alternative media as well as the demise of major newspapers would have never happened if you reported the news.

I dropped the local TV channels from satellite years ago - best thing I ever did.

On-air talent? Now THAT's an oxymoron.

The price, the cost of newsprint and distribution for what people can get on their laptops free are the true killers. Why advertise in the Trib when you can go on line and get the same or more customers for much less.

The Trib, and all other U.S. News Media, no matter who, always had their own bias. The Trib, Sun-Times or Herald-American all had a slant to their news, it was alway a business to them.

No more free thought, I don't think so. We have more free thought here on this blog, and on cyberspace then we ever go on newsprint. I just wish I could get paid for some of the writing I do. But, that's what I do for the C.P.D.

Stay safe, and thanks to SCC for giving us his voice.

When will people learn that raising the prices on stuff in a down economy spells doom for whomever's doing the raising?

Taxes
Newspapers
Grocery stores

Price is king right now so a move like this is going to do nothing but bankrupt the paper. Then what will we have..the Sun Times? That's it?

Damn, I can remember not too long ago that a paper cost a dime.

It was a big deal when they bumped it up to .50, and now they're rasing it again, and giving you less of a paper to read.

Just check out the Sunday Tribune. It's a shell of its former self.

From a suburban citizen troller: Three bucks for the Sunday suburban edition. I put it back and got a coffee and snickers instead and still had $.65 cents left over. Now that was a better deal and far less bullshit!

“Ha, ha, ha!

Now THAT is an excellent idea !! The importance of good report writing for successful prosecutions can not be overstated.

Traditionally the focus of the Chicago Police Department has been on arrests while prosecution of those arrested is treated like a red headed stepchild. The courts operate like a revolving door, the clerks announce cases as fast as a live stock auctioneer and the actual trials last only minutes. The States Attorney who probably graduated last in his class in law school usually has about 30 seconds to prepare his case and present it to the wise cracking judge who is more interested in how effective his one liners are then anything else.

Then again, with our local press corps populated with the likes of Sally (the) Ho. Probably their inclusion into the ranks of the CPD would only serve to diminish the quality of reporting writing not improve it. The city would be better served hiring retired third grade English teachers for the academy and equipping them with stainless steal yard sticks and immunity from prosecution for aggravated battery.

One thing Chicago will be sorry to lose is their archive and their blogs. The sun has no archive to speak of, and Chicagoans cannot keep track of political history (matching promises to records, for instance) without one.

They may have a liberal slant, but compared to the sun-times, they are still doing quality reporting.
