Save the Date

From a long time fan, a worthy event coming up:
  • Once again, the St. Baldrick's Organization has requested the assistance of the men and women of the Chicago Police Department in 2010. For those unfamiliar, St. Baldrick's is an organization that raises money that goes towards research of a cure for childhood cancer. Participants agree to shave their heads in support of the kids who lose there hair in chemo treatments, and seek pledges for doing so. Participants with longer hair are also able to donate hair longer than 12" to be used by "Locks of Love" to make wigs for the patients that do lose their hair. We are also looking for volunteers, especially anyone who is licensed to cut hair.

This year's event will be held on Friday, March 19, 2010 from 7:00 a.m. until 5:000 p.m. and in the near future I will post more information as to how to sign up. In the mean time you can e-mail me with any questions you may have at chromedome1269@sbcglobal.net. We will again be utilizing the Training Academy, Area 2, and Area 5 and hope to surpass last year's total of over $96,000.00 raised to help fight this horrible disease that has impacted so many of us.

There are other St. Baldrick's events throughout the Chicago Area so if the date doesn't work for you or you wish to attend a different one please check out www.stbaldricks.org for events in your area.

Thanks for reading and hopefully in advance for your participation and I will post more information soon!

Last year, at least one of the beneficiaries of this event was the child of a Chicago cop. And last year, we saw some pretty lumpy noggins shaved bare for this worthy cause. If you can stand the looks and the cool breeze through the scalp during a blustery March, maybe you can be one of the heroes fighting childhood cancer.

This is a real good cause and I wish that everyone would donate to it . My 29 year old daughter has informed me that she will shave her head and has a goal of $ 1,000
and is on the way to attaining it . I will donate $100 and I hope that everyone will dig deep . I'am a 8 year survivor myself and I would love to see this disease completely eliminated from the world . Everyone must know someone who has been effected by it.

Quick question, do they shave your head or just a real close crew cut. My 11 year old wants to do it with me but my wife will kill me if they shave his head bald. Seriously.

They shave the head with clippers, not a straight razor, so there is some hair left. If your son is 11, I would say it will grow back within 4 to 5 weeks (depending on how long it is now). My sons school has done this since the first grade, the boys love it.

If anything, you can ask for them to maybe put a "1" or "2" guard on the clippers then shave it.

Hope you and your son get involved!
