More Guns = Less Deaths?
- In the 1980s and ’90s, as the concealed-carry movement gained steam, Americans were killed by others with guns at the rate of about 5.66 per 100,000 population. In this decade, the rate has fallen to just over 4.07 per 100,000, a 28 percent drop. The decline follows a fivefold increase in the number of “shall-issue” and unrestricted concealed-carry states from 1986 to 2006.
The highest gun homicide rate is in Washington, D.C., which has had the nation’s strictest gun-control laws for years and bans concealed carry: 20.50 deaths per 100,000 population, five times the general rate. The lowest rate, 1.12, is in Utah, which has such a liberal concealed weapons policy that most American adults can get a permit to carry a gun in Utah without even visiting the state.
The decline in gun homicides also comes as U.S. firearm sales are skyrocketing, according to federal background checks that are required for most gun sales. After holding stable at 8.5 to 9 million checks from 1999 to 2005, the FBI reported a surge to 10 million in 2006, 11 million in 2007, nearly 13 million in 2008 and more than 14 million last year, a 55 percent increase in just four years.

good advice for the folks!
proper care and cleaning too.
Dear legitimate citizens of Chicago:
Arm yourselves now, regardless of how you have to do so. Don't even think about trying to register your firearm(s), lest you find yourself the defendant in a criminal case.
Practice, practice and practice some more to become proficient with any and all firearms you have access to. Teach your spouse and responsible child(ren) how to properly handle and fire these weapons. And in the event some degenerate so much as tries to open a door or window to get into your house, commence to firing until any threat to your family and/or property is eliminated. Be sure all family members adhere to this same script.
Until criminals receive punishment commensurate to their crimes, and until your police force is brought up to the strength as dictated by crime rates, assume that you'll have to fend for yourself.
Because when seconds count, the nearest beat car of your severely undermanned district is either: 1) on a POD mission, 2) at an outdoor roll call, 3) waiting 2 hours at shift change to get a vehicle and radios, 4) waiting an hour to be denied a felony upgrade on a career shoplifter that stole 2 candy bars, a 4-pack of AAA batteries and 5 sticks of deodorant, 5) on a seatbelt mission or 6) commuting to or from lunch.
I won't even begin to elaborate on the regularity in which 2 or 3 beat cars stay down an asinine amount of time on a simple dope pinch in the hopes that all 6 coppers get subpoenaed if/when it goes to trial (HINT: you clowns are the next group in the crosshairs of the department auditors - enjoy!).
So please don't be too mad, good citizens, when it takes hours for your beat officer to arrive at your noise disturbance or to hang a ticket on that car without a city sticker that parked in front of your house...we'll get there eventually. But keep this in mind for when you're awakened out of a dead sleep by the sound of your door being booted-in by a 10 time convicted felon on a narcotic-fueled rampage.
Arm yourselves and sleep tight.

Arm yourselves good citizens, because there wont be many of us around when you need us.
Dump the power test for the carbine course. Let the CPD police arm themseleves.
Someone forword this info. to Shorty.
More and More bad guys are armed these days, so give the the good guys a fighting chance under the protection of law. Whats fair is fair, and soon the bad guys will scurry and hide when all the good guys who follow the law will be allowed to shoot back, without fear of prosecution in addition to death.
I have no problem dealing death to those who seek to cause me harm. The problem is what happens afterward when caught with a legally-acquired but unregistered weapon. Jail time sucks, but so does losing a $900 gun. That's MY property! Can you at least sue to get it back? Does this open a can of worms with civil liability with the shithead's family seeking to win the ghetto lottery?
This concerned citizen hasjoined the NRA and sent in my FOID app. Next up learning to shoot again-either out in the burbs or out of state with family. Maybe I haven't' forgotten much from the Hunters Safety Course I took when I was 11. Wish me luck!
SCC (and other cops/knowledgeable gun folks) what handguns/pistols would you reccomend to citizens for home protection? I recently obtained my FOID card and I'm now waiting for the SC to strike down the gun ban so I can legally purchase a handgun to protect my home. I've always liked the pistols from Heckler and Koch, especially the HK45 compact (http://www.hk-usa.com/civilian_products/hk45c_general.asp). Also, I'm looking to purchase a shotgun as well, preferably a smaller one with quicker action shooting than the standard double-barrel, I'd like to be able to unload 6-8 shots in less than 30 seconds, suggestions? You should do a gun post once the ban hopefully gets reversed so homeowners like myself can know what are the best options available to us. Keep up all the great work, I have nothing but respect for our men and women in blue.
Democrats ignore reality. You see, they are smarter than the rest of us. Stats, facts and the will of the taxpayer means nothing to them.
Arizona has a concealed carry provision but the state legislature is attempting to pass a " no permit" law allowing any who wants to carry concealed, to carry concealed without a license. At least once a month I read an article about some shithead trying to stick a store up, burglarize a house or something similar and the shithead is shot by the citizen.

"If someone has a gun and is trying to kill you, it would be reasonable to shoot back with your own gun." The Dalai Lama.
Hear that Daley! even one of the most peaceful leaders on the planet (whose intelligence leaves you looking like a neanderthal) realizes the legitimate right of self defense and the reasonable means to provide it.

It always has been legal for you to OWN a gun, the soon to be overturned city ordinance prevents you from legally possessing it in the city.
As for weaponry, choose what you are comfortable with handling.
Find a gun shop with a range. Many have "rental" guns for use on their range.
While you're there look at the Mossberg 500 or Remington 870 home defense 12ga shotguns. 18 1/2" barrel, pistol grip available, 3 to 9 rounds. I prefer to keep the standard stock on. (Gives you something to beat their skull in with if necesssary)
You can "legally" posess the shotgun in the city now, if you register it.
I wish I can CCW after June.
It's an ultimate dream, for me and many others but.. I know, it may never happens as longest Dick Daley is in power
Well,I might just have to brake the law, in order to protect my self and my family
Why? because and don't feel safe in it Shit-City

Maude is dead. Killed by a t-shirt Cannon. When we outlaw t-shirt cannons only outlaws will have t-shirt cannons.
Daley must go no if and or buts.
Register and vote ,remember daley 15-20k votes from the families that have no work jobs and owe their pathetic existence to the crumb.

Start with the basic .38 revolver.
Work up from there. The problem is the ammo shortage. Do NOT use hardball/ full metal jacket ammo for defense !
Nothing wrong with shooting as long as the right people get shot.
How come Mayor Daley, Mrs. Daley and Alderman Burke can have "armed" guards 24-7 (i.e. Chicago police officers making a huge amount of money--and NOT coming out of the mayor's or Burke's pocket) and the peon citizen of this city, who don't have the power or clout to have paid armed guards around them 24/7-- can't AT LEAST arm themselves should the need arise?
How can Mayor Daley deny anyone this constitutional right? He should be prosecuted for allowing this to happen to the law abiding citizens who should be able to protect themselves just like he protects himself under the guise of "armed guards". Anyone in the Daley-controlled media want to break loose and expose this one-sided dictatorship here in Chicago?

Excellent advice. The oft maligned 4" barreled .38 is a great gun for house use, especially for non gun-guys/gals. .40 and .45 auto may have better theoretical "stopping power".But the proficiency curve is a bit longer. Two .38's in c.o.m. beats misses and periphial hits.
Tons of perfectly good used smith and wesson police trade ins out there, as well as new ones too, Yeah practice with the cheap fmj rounds. Buy some good hollowpoints for defense use. Many gun shops/ranges offer free or cheap safety classes. Along with a little range time and some snap cap practice. You ain't gonna be Rambo, but you'll be light years ahead of some sideways holding felon. Good Remington or Mossberg pump shotguns are reasonable and readilly available. Buy with a 18 to 20" barrel. 12gauge does kick a bunch, .20 gauge is more controlable, your choice. Again buy some dummy rounds and practice cycling the thing. A lot of noobs under stress tend to not cycle the pump all the way, causing jams.
