Summer Preview?

  • Multiple gunshots in Chicago Friday night left four dead and three injured in the hospital.
April 15 or thereabout is the first day of what could be a long summer. The numbers we've heard are in excess of 100 officers leaving on this first day of the "55-and-out" provision (115 was the last number we heard.) The numbers for the rest of the year are supposedly on pace for previous annual totals, so that means we still have another 400 plus retirements to go.

What no one is sure of is how many people might just get fed up and decide to go. That's the big variable.

Coppers are finally seeing that this bullshit is not worth the aggravation. But think of it from a military/gov't perspective. Who needs uppity street cops?? Not the hire ups for sure. Young dumb hairgels can be had for peanuts, they can fire them at will, they are quiet(for a while),no more pensions for the FNG's, they will run and gun like they are Jack Bauer till they get burned, they can't tell a political hack from a piss bum,or a latin king from an insane busboy, a whore from a drunk yuppie. In short...The mayor wants the people who frequent this blog ...GONE. WE know who he is and what he and J-Fool will be responsible for this bloody summer. And we are telling the WORLD!!!!!!! FREE COZZI NOW by the way.

You're pretty much right on the money, SCC. At this month's FOP meeting it was stated that 196 total coppers had put in for the 55 & out effective this calendar year, with 109 of those leaving 15 April. Can't recall if it was mentioned when the remainder would pull the pin.

And as far as the shootings go, let's just hope that none of us in law enforcement or any of our loved ones, family members, friends and the truly innocent fall victim to the savages that seem to get more emboldened every day. This summer is really going to be chaotic. Stay safe.

I have age and time but won't retire just yet. I still don't believe we will get all the city has promised about health care. I forsee the city saying we can't pay all these benefits and throw every retiree into Obama care. I have no spouse or kids so I can wait and see.

Daley is cleaning house and will not stop until he is satified. He hates the police and only keep his security detail around because they have guns and they provide a quick entry for him into any event. He will replace aging CPD with new recuit for less pay and less retirement benefits. Plus they will all OBEY him. Daley lives by the saying "Better to ask for forgiveness than permission, besides they're all stupid."

I rem your blog mentioning the need for a fee for the Taste of Chicago like summerfest in WI. The Russian Bombing yesterday shows the need to have security control entrants to an event bringing a million people. Wall to wall people would have resulted in a higher death count than in Russia.

another big wave of retirements will prolly be in november. this department is ass backwards! they're putting 50 new recruits in the academy next month, won't be ready until winter. they should be putting all recruits in starting in fall/winter and hitting the streets in summer when we need them most. they might not know what they are doing, but at least they are bodies on the ground. this summer is going to be a zoo! where's the hiring plan? no leadership in this department! they tell the media and FOP they will replace the 55 and out with recruits making 45k to save the city money, and they are not even close to matching the amount retiring. this is on top of the manpower shortage we already have! where's the FOP? this was part of the agreement. its in writing!

I would make sure to leave a loaded gun for the spouse also. Never know how many of these assholes there are. All they want to do is kill police and their families. Kepp your eyes open and don't get complacent. Nobody gives a shit about us but the other blue shirts.

We might have 11,500 if you count all the civilians. Just lookback for the past 10 years. Count the number of retirees against the numbers that have been hired. Simple math. When banjo boy J-Fed says we are down 700, he is only counting those on the medical any given day. With his great FBI training and superior intelect, he thinks we are that stupid to believe his bullshit. We may not have PHD's, but that doesn't mean we are blubbering idiots. Being intelligent doesn't make you a good cop. Being smart does. I'll take a smart cop over a book smart cop anyday of the week.

Precisely. There is no number of cops or other law enforcement that can prevent terrorist acts like this. The only way to defeat and/or cope with an executed attack is to have the citizenry prepared. Watch who's around you, pay attention to their behavior. Carry a small flashlight with you if you take the El (look for the blue lights in the tunnel, those are escape routes).

I'm an advocate for Concealed Carry but when terrorists don't care if they kill themselves, in this case it wouldn't help much.

Remember when you did your exit interview on your last day of work when you retired? Today the pension board asked for all the exit interviews of coppers retiring over the summer. Reason being is they can't keep up with the last minute submission. Got to be some high numbers pulling out.
