Get Used to These Reports

  • An 80-year-old man shot and killed an armed man who broke into his East Garfield Park home this morning, police said.

The intruder, who police believe had a gun, broke into the family two-flat in the 600 block of North Sawyer Avenue about 5:20 a.m., said Chicago Police News Affairs [...].

The resident was awakened by the break-in and confronted the burglar [...]. The homeowner shot the intruder, who was dead on the scene, police said. The intruder was in his 30s...
On a side note, property crime stats in 011 dropped by 0.1% this morning. The media, Shortshanks and J-Fled see no correlation between these events, although a number of cops and detectives were seen smiling in the background.

Ask any homicide dick. Such situations as what occurred in Fillmo' are downright exhilarating but all too rare. Talk about an eternal deterrent against the predaceous mutt. WOW! Dirt nap time, muthafucka!

After writing up the "justifiable homicide" paperwork and charging the vic with Daley's bullshit "failure to register" (it's always nolle prosequi in court), the time-honored tradition is to take the law-abiding citizen hero out for a few cold ones after your tour of duty.

Hell, if I could, I'd split a magnum of Dom Perignon with this gentleman and his spouse--on me!

The hero of this story is a crippled 80 year-old Army veteran that shot straight and true and protected his 83 year-old crippled wife and his 12 year-old great-grandson from an armed home invader.

He should be given an award, but instead, he is at Area 4 while they contemplate charging him for having no FOID and an unregistered handgun within the city limits.

i would not arrest this man (for failure to register) based on the fact that the U.S Supreme Court may overturn this city ordinance. if this happens, it will open the door for lawsuits against the city and arresting officers who had foreknowledge that the ordinance is under supreme court review. in fact, our legal department should issue an order directing us not to enforce this ordinance pending review by the U.S. Supreme Court.

We can now subtract one useless pos from the census rolls, food stamp program, SSI benefits and all other free entitlements that are granted to people who do not deserve them.

Seems the city wants to enact a mandatory retirement age of 57 for police and fire. City says they will agree to a small increase for those getting paid from the Widows & Orphans Fund, and an increase to 76.5% for a maxed out retiree. Anyone know anything about this? Confirmed. FOP Rep with first name of Jim (forgot last name) in 022 today and told this story. Its being pushed by Daley through both Cullerton in the Senate and Madigan in the House.
When Daley found out about amendments added to the bill by downstate legislators friendly to us, Daley told Madigan to pull the bill from consideration. Supposedly it will be re-introduced at the fall veto session (I think that's in late October--early November for three weeks).

Any officer who arrests someone for failure to register a firearm may be putting themselves at risk for a lawsuit, if that officer knows ahead of time that the U.S. Supreme Court is reviewing this city ordinance. if the supreme court later rules the ordinance unconstitutional, you may be named on a lawsuit, along with the city.

do you really want to arrest someone for an offense that may later be overturned by the Supreme Court?

Don't we use our discretion everyday on minor violations of the law? Why couldn't discretion been used in this case? OR was it ordered from downtown?

If the citizen is arrested for not having an FOID or failure to register, I am sure that the detectives were ordered to do so. When and if the supreme court strikes down the city ordinances, they will be quickly replaced by other draconian ordinances that , I am sure, are already written, just waiting for the court's decision.Registration will always be a fact in Chicago and I bet training classes will be added, gun locks etc., etc. etc.

Another slick .38 would probably serve, a good old S&W "nightstand gun." Something the fellow is already familiar and comfortable with. Takes little effort for arthritic fingers to load and use, compared with the strong finger grip and pull required to work back against those powerful recoil springs in the semi-autos. Little to think about in a time of stress, either.

You got enough to do when half-awake in a few time-dilated seconds -- eyeing the suspect, watching your backstop, and mentally cataloging locations of friends/family members who may be nearby.

No "condition this," "condition that" with a wheelgun. Is it loaded? Then aim and pull the trigger.

Can't argue with success, huh? Sometimes older and simpler really is better.

God bless the old gentleman and his family. Something like this is sad, shocking, very stressful. Don't need this in your old age. Hope someone helped in cleaning up the scene.

Detail someone with an M4 to sit on the porch, walk the gangways, check the garage until the scum gets the idea...

Good Job Grandpa,,,protect your family-that's what it is all about.

Let's see Daley try and spin this his way, he won't be able to.

Old dude gonna lose his gun, I'll take him up to Shore's and buy him a new one. A Nice Ruger .380.

5/26/2010 12:26:00 PM

Old guys need a 12 ga. not a .380. you want to put the burglar down right now, a shotgun will do that.

This is a prime example of why Daley is violating our Second Amendment right to protect ourselves. This 80 yr old was tired of being a victim!

ILLINOIS STATE RIFLE ASSOCIATION

BELLEVUE, WA - This morning's fatal shooting of a home invasion suspect by an 80-year-old retired Army veteran in Chicago's East Garfield Park neighborhood underscores why we filed a lawsuit to overturn the city's gun ban, the Second Amendment Foundation said today.

That case, McDonald v. City of Chicago, is about to be decided by the U.S. Supreme Court. Joining SAF in that lawsuit are the Illinois State Rifle Association and four Chicago residents including Otis McDonald, for whom the case is named.

Today's shooting of an armed home invader with a lengthy criminal record is still under investigation by police, noted SAF Executive Vice President Alan M. Gottlieb, but it appears to be a clear-cut case of self-defense. Local newspaper reports show strong support from the older man's neighbors. The Chicago Sun Times quoted next door neighbor Curtis Thompson, who observed, "It's a good thing they had a gun, or they might be dead." Another neighbor, identified as Audrey Williams, told the newspaper "I'd have done the same thing. They say we've got to give up our guns, but that's crazy."

The Mayor Said, and I Quote "anyone who thinks he is going to solve anything with a gun is wrong, you aren't going to solve anything with a gun"

Well your honor, I guess this home owner, did not get the message.

You might what to stop by his place, and tell him the date and location of the next gun turn in.
PS: Have a nice day ????

Hey Daley you POS, a good number of us citizens are smiling today too. I just want to say thank you pops for doing what you had to do. Thank you for your service to our nation as a veteran and thank you for your service to your community this morning. And the cops probably thank you for making their job easy on this caper. Just some paperwork-no trying to figure out a whodunit. You are the kind of man sorely missing in many neighborhoods of this city which is exactly why thugs like the former thug at your house today are taking over many neighborhoods in Chicago. And you know what Daley, I personally called about this incident to the NRA. Hopefully it will be in an upcoming issue of the National Rifleman-Armed Citizen page. If anyone else wants to, you can call them at 703-267-1193. And next month the Supremes hand down their ruling on the gun ban. Can't wait to see the blithering idiot on the news after that.

THAT IS A REAL FUCKIN' MAN!

Does what is NECCESSARY to protect his family and address the riotous trespass to his CASTLE.

Are you triscuit nibbling, criminal coddling, wet-eyed, scooter riding, capri pants, birkenstocks, matching beret & ankle sock wearing hope & changers getting ANY of this?

It is nigh univeral law that a man living his life and not bothering anyone has a right and duty to defend himself, his family and his home.

You people who got taken out for ice cream when your team lost, just can't seem to wrap your heads around this!

Common sense survival dictates being able to protect yourself.

The libs tip their hand every time in instances like this...

"Unarmed (and we add unwilling to use arms even in dire circumstances) men are subjects. Armed men are citizens."

Would love to share a straight-up double of barrel strength bourbon (the drink of real men & heroes... none for you j-fled, now go spank a cat or something.) with the old timer and contribute to a "replacement" for him.

Definitely a 12ga. semi auto! One in the smoke-pipe and five on standby in addition to much less recoil.

.380? Nah... A semi auto is a bit too "fiddle around-ish" for older folk... An S&W Centennial or Bodyguard with two or three moon clips are the best "walk around the house" guns we think. Buffalo Bore 158gr. gas-checked lead hollow points (the REAL .38 Special, not the watered down loads everyone else makes.) will make this a sho' nuff "getcho funky ass the fuck back" gun.

Madly lusting after the re-introduced S&W "Lemon Squeezer"...

Unfortunately I believe that you are correct, a District Court in DC just ruled against Heller in "Heller II" which claimed that the DC registration requirements violated the original SCOTUS ruling. The registration requirements will be draconian to discourage participation. Too bad. Daley got away with destroying an active runway, I don't think he's too concerned about "some court ruling"

Fighting Back
May 27, 2010

BY STELLA FOSTER Sun-Times Columnist

STELLA'S SPOTLIGHT

KUDOS to the gentle 80-year-old Chicago Army veteran who early Wednesday morning shot and killed an armed intruder who broke into his two-flat home in East Garfield Park where he lived with his wife. Thank goodness the senior, who walks with a cane, and his beloved were not injured. I'd rather be reporting this version of the story as opposed to having to say that a decent elderly couple in East Garfield Park were robbed and murdered in their home. The intruder, according to the couple's son, entered with a gun through a rear window around 5 a.m. The man, who is a Korean War veteran, had been a victim of a robbery at gunpoint in his home by three thugs last year and vowed he wouldn't become a victim again. His neighbors are applauding the man's actions, and the elderly hero said he was "sorry that it happened, but it had to be him or us."

I have said it before . . . and will say it again: Decent people are at the mercy of these hoodlums in crime-ridden communities. And when the city asks folks to turn in their guns . . . who do you think is turning them in???? Certainly not these ignorant and merciless thugs. With the economy getting worse . . . more and more innocent homeowners will become victims if they are not allowed to protect themselves. Now here we have two war veterans, including the senseless and fatal shooting of Police Officer Thomas Wortham IV, who have been victimized by uncaring, two-legged predators.

Mayor Daley needs to come up with a better solution than just saying "turn in your guns". . . . Crooks will not turn in theirs. At the rate violent crime is occurring in this city, more people may start thinking that help from the National Guard is not a bad idea.

CHICAGO POLICE SUPT. Jody "The Robot" Weis mentioned that he is open to having his huge $310,000-a-year salary reduced if necessary in order to get a new three-year contract. And I say, rightly so. ... I am glad that he realizes that he is getting paid waaaaaay too much money.

Yeah, I said it!

I would recommend a 12ga. pump. It won't jam, as semi autos are wont to do, and pumping it isn't that big of a deal. I shot doubles with a pump and did as well as the semi-auto guys did (but not as well as the guys with the $11,000 over/unders).

HAAAAA-HAAAAAA!

Hizzoner the Hoplophobe?

Good one and a word we haven't heard/seen too much since the passing Col. John D. (Jeff) Cooper USMC.

Wit, wisdom, conservative values and hard-eyed common sense!

The problem with the liberal pinky is they refuse to acknowledge that there are just plain evil, rotten muthafuckahs with no impulse control roaming the world and a goodly portion of them seem to inhabit Chicago.

The softy pinkies think it's ok to willingly be a victim. This is why they cry when a criminal gets sent to his doom by an upright man.

They think there is something wrong with being willing to fight and kill should one be forced to do so.

As one poster put it... "What color is the sky in YOUR world?"

That is OUR reality. We don't deal in kumbayah, rose colored glasses and curling up in the fetal position wondering why the person attacking us won't stop and be friends... "That's not cool..."

That's how you get your jaw broken, dumb muthafuckah! Get caught with your mouth open trying to reason with some asshole when you should be tearing his stinkin' hide off.

Does anybody's old man teach them how to brawl or how not to be a professional victim anymore?

Law abiding society has gotten so soft!

How about showing some respect! Today's hero has earned it in many ways!
---------

C'mon, these were friendly references to this man advanced age and most posters were congratulating him for his intestinal fortitude. It took trremendous courage not to lie down and be a victim. Good for him!

Until handguns are allowed for the poor, huddled masses here, you can always buy a shotgun for home protection. A 20 gauge will make a mess of a home invader and it is legal to register.
