McShane Fundraiser

  • Natasha McShane has started talking for the first time since she was brutally beaten with a baseball bat while celebrating with a friend in Bucktown, her family says.

"She's whispering," her grandmother Bernadette McShane said today. "She's trying to talk."

Natasha McShane is speaking "odd words" like "yes" and "no" - not sentences - but slow progress is still progress, her grandmother said.
  • Please join us for a benefit in honor of Natasha McShane on Friday, June 4, 2010, from 5-9p.m. at Local 399’s (Operating Engineers) event hall, located at 2260 South Grove Street, Chicago, IL 60616 The event includes live entertainment, food, drinks and special guests. All funds raised will go directly to the Natasha McShane Fund, which was established to assist the McShane family with the expenses related to this tragedy.
If you can't make it, you can donate at the above link.

I'm a bit concerned...is there not a fund for victim's of violent crime in IL? I thought I recalled reading somewhere about an Illinois Crime Victim's Act which provided coverage of medical expenses and other incidentals to a victim of VIOLENT CRIME???

I was just wondering, why is there all this publicity and postings in our department for Ms. McShane? She was not a police officer injured in the line of duty. I don't mean to sound cruel or insensitive about this issue. I am sure she is a nice woman and what happened to her was outright terrible. I wish her a speedy recovery.

I'll most likely send a donation.

However, I think it looks bad for Mayor Daley to be personally involved with this fundraiser.

Other citizens may start asking "how many times has his honor been involved in fund raising for any of the other 1,000+ victims of violence in the past year?"

Oh, wait..I have the answer..NONE!

Why? Because all the other victims (with Irish surnames) are PEOPLE OF COLOR..and Daley hates them. He only pretends to be their friend because he needs their votes!

If I were a crime victim..I'd be like where is my hospital visit by the mayor? Where is my fund raiser?

All sarcasim aside..this is a great idea, thanks to Sheriff Sheehan for spearheading it..but why taint it by involving asswipe Daley!!

every step forward in her recovery is a blessing. we DO CARE about victims and helping people.this gets minimized in our day to day dealings with thugs and bullshitters. every police officer appreciates a heartfelt thank you once in awhile. i did and still do.

Her family had to quit their jobs in Ireland in order to be with her in Chicago during her lenghty recovery. They also had to remove a part of her brain that was destroyed during her savage beating. Perhaps you compassionate souls could look beyond me, me me all the time. You're no different that the miscreants you bitch about. Where's Mine, 23 years on the job never seen a bigger bunch of selfish jagoffs.
