A third generation Chicago firefighter whose father was killed in the line of duty was chosen by Mayor Daley Wednesday to be the city’s new, $185,652-a-year fire commissioner.
Robert Hoff, 54, replaces John Brooks, who resigned two months after the Chicago Sun-Times reported that a sexual harassment complaint against him was allegedly swept under the rug.
And the support of the rank and file?
- Tom Ryan, president of the Chicago Firefighters Union Local 2, added, “He’s a highly-trained, highly decorated firefighter who knows the jobs inside out. The men and women all respect him because of his vast experience and his leadership qualities.”
Wow.

I just got done looking at the revised captain and lieutenant list that was “was inaccurate and published without formal approval” by the bureau of patrol as related in the pax 501 by the superintendent. Pretty much everything is the same as the first one and I’m amazed at the incompetence of our leadership with this department. First Dugan sends out a detail list and is called out in the pax 501. Now we have the new list (which is pretty much the same list as the first one) and now it’s correct this time? This is the biggest mickey mouse operation I have ever worked for and I’ve worked at some fucked up places before here.
This is exactly what happened with the “how’s my driving program.” Everyone in the Superintendent’s office attended meetings about it and approved this program and when the program’s info hit this blog and the backlash started, the backstabbing and the lines, “I never saw this or I never approved this” started flying around faster than the tree branches in yesterday’s storm. Make a fucking decision and stick with it, even if it is unpopular because at least people will respect you for sticking to your guns and not lying about something that you clearly knew about and approved.

Agreed. "Reverends" will put intense pressure on Daley to name one of their picks. Annual summer culling of the "flower of black youth", followed by annual "back to school September slaughter" will give them an excuse to attack Weis. Unfortunately, these court battles that the Daley Crime Family engages in WITH OUR TAX MONEY, are just a way of learning how to manipulate and circumvent the laws.
Every time Daley pulls his shit and it gets struck down by the courts, at the same time time, the courts explain WHY it was struck down and they also explain that if they had done it THIS WAY, it would have been just fine. So he then reroutes and does it the way the courts advised.
This is how he was able to destroy the entire promotional process in the police dept. In the old days, many deserving PO's were able to get promoted through promotional exams. To be sure, many clout babies had test scores changed behind the curtain in order for the "chosen ones" to get promoted and eventually, their gold braid pensions, but it was still POSSIBLE to move up legitimately.
Once Daley got in, he began to try to give out rank promotions to friends and cronies who didn't earn them through the exam process. Lawsuits were filed, promotions were overturned, and the courts told Daley how he did it wrong.
Several trial and error attempts later, and we have the "merit" promotional system that we have today. It's not WHAT YOU KNOW. It's WHO YOU KNOW or WHO YOU BLOW!
When Daley's handgun ban is tossed by the Supremes, I'm sure the stuttering prick will have another roadblock he can install IMMEDIATELY to keep the citizens from arming and protecting themselves. When THAT gets challenged in the courts, he'll have plenty of time to study and implement changes to his ORIGINAL handgun ban to bring it in line with what the courts advise him to do to make it legal.
Life is just a big circle jerk with Daley in charge. He ABSOLUTELY must go !

With a midnight tac team assigned to the area already, another one on the way, sat and gun teams most likely will be reassigned back to their districts. Only makes sense cosidering the lack of P.O.'s in the districts and no hiring or promotions in the near future. District law enforcement needs P.O.'s and sergeants.

I remember that article well... 20 questions to Mayor Daley, it was the 5th question I believe. It was in the Sunday paper, the same day the Bulls were going to clinch the NBA Championship. As I sat there, contimplating getting bricks and bottles thrown at me in some "celebration" in the City's south side, I asked myself: "What if WE all quit?"

I agree that Weiss will be replaced but dont count out Huberman. He is perceived as being mixed in his race which he is not but he is also openly gay. Daley could appoint him as the first gay superintendent and win all sorts of praise not only in Chicago but around the country. Watch and you will see.

All the complimentary stuff about Hoff is admirable and makes him very acceptable, but it didn't get him the job. Orozco influenced the shanks to put Hoff in the spot. Without Orozco pushing for him, Hoff would have just been another qualified guy fighting to get a foot in the door of the fifth floor at city hall, and probably would have been aced out.

My comment wasn't a shot at any race, it was a shot at Daley. Daley isn't about what's best for the department, only what's best for him. Yes greed is killing the city, but greed also doesn't know color, well except green. All I care about is having a competent leader in charge, I could care less if they are pewter. I have always respeceted the positions our bosses hold, but it would be nice to actually respect the bosses.

Lt. JG was a punk in mass transit. Years back there was a 20 something from Wisconsin hiding what wa, or thought to be poison in the subway Lt. JG calls the entire watch to the subway to search, yet he won't go any further than the agent level. Needless to say there were many POs that ignored the clown. That is just one of many cluster fucks he was involved in.

I saw J Fed the other day at 35th Street. His enormous bobble-head was jammed in the door with Brust and Masters trying to get his ears past the metal framing so he could make his entrance - out of the blue come 2 fireman with some 3-in-1 oil. Couple squirts on each side and he was in. PHHHEEEWWWWW !
