- It won't do any good, I know...but I pray that the justices of the Supreme Court care more about people than about their personal politics.
Judges are supposed to apply the law equitably across the board, devoid of personal politics. While that doesn't seem to be the norm lately, it was the aim of the Founders, and most of the Justices seem to recognize that.
- I know the Constitution guarantees the right to bear arms, but still I pray the court will not wipe out the Chicago law that bans handguns.
That puts you in a distinct minority then Walter. A minority with a television bully pulpit, but a minority nonetheless.
- Please, Mr. Chief Justice and your esteemed colleagues, step down your marble stairway to walk the streets we walk, and find a '38 in your face. Maybe then you'll understand why the Chicago gun law is important to us.
Important to whom? In what way. Almost 60 people shot this weekend shows that Daley's gun laws are failures Walter. The gangsters are winning because law abiding folks can't protect themselves.
- Come to our neighborhoods, just once, and maybe you won't wipe out our law. You must not have heard of the 54 people shot in Chicago over the weekend...10 of them dead. Maybe you don't know of our children being murdered in drive-bys, even if you do know what a drive-by is.

OK, let's be fair. Although I agree with you SCC on gun laws in Chicago, most, if not all, of those 60 people were not "law abiding folks".
A majority of those people (term used losely)that are getting shot and/or killed in Chicago are NOT law abiding citizens. They are the dregs...and most police are only upset at the fact that they have to cut paper

I completely understand the appeal to human emotion Walter so eloquently uses. But that last set of lines is what the problem is. Lets not follow the Constitiution, forget established law, and forego law abiding citizens rights. Never mind Chicago has had the gun ban for over 30 years and it hasnt worked. Laws are meant to protect the individual's freedom, not impose the collective will of the majority, or in this case the minority.

For all of those people who think that the 2nd amendment is outdated, has no place in a modern society and should be done away with, I have another proposal. If you want to have an effect on the crime rates, why not consider doing away with the 4th or the 5th amendments? That correct, doing away with these would have a greater impact on crime. Criminals would no longer have a right to remain silent. The liberals so love Europe and France and Germany do not allow a suspect to remain silent. A suspect must testify. And, stop throwing all of these cases out of court on bad searches. That would curtail crime.

They decided not to charge with hate crime since the only evidence of a hate crime was that the victims were all white and the offenders black. that and the sexual acts forced up on the victims and the haphazard way they were brutally killed. Nah, no hate crime there.

Yeah the last time I looked I wasn't walking out of of my 5 bedroom, 3.5 bath, 3,399 square foot home in Lincoln Park,(which is only going for a cool 2.2million dollars). This guy lost touch with the working man a long time ago. Forget about owning a house, I'd be happy if I could afford rent in his area for my family.

Perhaps, Walter, you would like to personally experience what I have- being an unarmed female citizen, approaching sixty years of age, with brittle, breaking bones, facing a gang of young, hair-netted male gangbangers who found it amusing to terrorize, in broad daylight, who else but an outnumbered, unarmed citizen. Only through the grace of God did I survive in one piece. But did I wish I'd had a gun just in case? Hell yes. Do I still have flashbacks every day? Hell yes. Do I walk to the grocery store daily looking over my shoulder afraid for my life? Hell yes. Do I wish to get a gun now? I can't wait. And I live a mere 8 blocks from City Hall.

it's quite clear that most people who wrote in agree that Walter is WAY out of touch.
Hopefully the Supreme Court rules on this soon and Tricky Dick is prevented from throwing up all the road blocks to freedom that he has planned...but that'll likely be another court battle.
At least the floodgates will be opened!

John Fritchey is starting to look like a very attractive candidate for the 5th floor. He's criticizing Daley's non-existent crime plan; he is saying guns are NOT the problem and that parental responsibility IS; he wants sentencing reform to keep criminals behind bars; he's even talking about SOME decriminalization of street drugs.
How refreshing to hear a politician who seems to have a brain after 40 yrs of Daley Crime Family rule!

IF Chicago was a peaceful paradise, then one could make an argument for the gun ban.
But seeing as there is absolute mayhem on the streets, a largely demoralized police force, an indifferent and ineffectual political regime, a non-functional criminal justice system, there is no case to be made for the continuation of the ban, which has obviously been totally ineffective and pointless.
Daley epitomizes the definition of insanity: Doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results.
Maybe he refers to 38mm round which is 1.5 inch diameter and used only for riots ??? That would spray a lot of tear gas or pepper in somebodys face. Maybe he wants to gas the whole courtroom full of judges with that pistol of his ???

I am not keen to have every non-felon moron I encounter be able to own a handgun, but the ban is completely ineffective.

in other states every non-felon can not only OWN a handgun but also carry them in public. gertting rid of the chicago gun ban is step #1. Concealed Carry is what Illinois desperately needs, that is step #2.

I just wanted you to know that I caught Mr. Jacobson's "Perspective."
I was so happy to see that Walter can speak so freely and openly to our Justices of the Supreme Court. Please know, this is the highest branch of our government, hence the title Supreme Court.
Many Americans have given all and many have defended this nation to give us the freedoms we cherish and love, especially our 1st amendment. Please do your own studying and learn about early American History and find what the First Freedom really was. Why it is there? and now called the second amendment. This Amendment has placed the power in the hands of the people. Exactly where the framers wanted the power. Not in the Executive Branch, not in the Legislative Branch and not even in the Judicial Branch. Yes the Supreme Court has determined many of our freedoms and besides myself, I encourage everyone to arm and protect themselves at all costs. Protect the freedoms that have endured.
I have protected mine. I just wanted you to know I exercised another.... and I changed the channel when Walter was done flapping his lips.

Little known fact. Walter was a sworn member of the Cook County Sheriff back in the days when Elrod was in charge. You guys remember the guys that got to carry guns but do NO work for it. He had the gun to PROTECT HIMSELF against others.

There is truth to this. In talking with someone at Shore Galleries a LONG time ago (21-22yrs?) he said that many on TV were hypocrites as to wanting to ban guns - they were all there buying some for their own protection.
