Wounded Survivors Sculpture

  • As Chicago police Officer Cedric Brumley lay in a hospital in 2002, recovering from massive injuries suffered in a car crash as he answered a call, he dreamed of picking his children up from school.

When he woke from a coma, his two children were the first ones he asked to see.

So when the Chicago Police Memorial Foundation commissioned a work to honor officers who have been severely injured in the line of duty, Brumley and other officers asked that the artists include family members to recognize the sacrifices they have made.
Those sacrifices that thankfully didn't end in an officers' death, but nevertheless denied us the continued service and company of a brother or sister officer will be recognized and remembered along with our deceased brethren.

Great Topic SCC,
(A little more 411)
The statue will honor all the catastrophically injured members of our CPD.
Chosen by a committee of our injured members, the Rotblatt Amrany studios, designers of the Michael Jordan statue among others, will have the statue ready for unveiling by the Candlelight Vigil in September.
Along with Cedric, Jim Mullen and Denise Domagala helped design the statue to honor ALL catastrophically injured members. It was asked that the portrayed member in a wheelchair be surrounded by his family and a partner from the Chicago Police Dept., all, according to the committee, instrumental in their life, care and support.
Since ALL (100%) of the contributions 'from the police,' active and retired** go directly to support our deceased and injured members exclusively, the cost of the statue will be paid for by 'corporate' sponsors. (I believe all the Chicago sports teams are already on board with contributions.)
**Initially, I was unaware that I could continue my payroll deductions (now just once a month) from my pension checks.
The Memorial Foundation will send you a form for continued payroll (pension) deduction or you can send them a one-time contribution.
I now continue to give on behalf of my brothers and sisters that were injured and/or made the 'Ultimate Sacrifice."
I'm proud to have served with the ..."Greatest Fraternity on Earth" and will forever remember those members and families less fortunate.
All Gave Some Because Some Gave All.

I know that I have read many negative comments on this blog about the police memorial foundation, but they are advocates for the officers injured in the line of duty. They help the families fight for the services that the city is so quick to deny. They also help subsidize the costs incurred as a result of the injuries sustained while on duty. Please consider supporting the police memorial foundation - believe me, it is a resource you would rather give to, than have to receive from!

More to come soon on this but the Memorial Foundation will be having a Texas Hold'em poker tournament benefit at the Horseshoe casino in mis November. Those of you that attended and played in the Alex Valadez benefit tournament, this will pretty much mirror it with bigger payouts. More to come when it acutally gets the final approval from the Horseshoe.

Phil Cline created the memorial foundation.

He apparently takes a six figure or near six figure salary out of it.

I've donated to the National Law enforcement memorial, but I won't give a dime to our own.

The work of our memorial foundation could almost exclusively be done voluntarily.

Old Country Buffet Cline was the worst Superintendent this department has ever seen. Well he was the worst Superintendent.

Clout played more of a role in his administration than any other prior Superintendent.

He can take his fitness ribbon and stuff it up his ample ass.

How's that for a negative comment?

I agree, in the majority of cases, legalized gun ownership reduces crime. But don't think for a second that Stossel of Fox network will help the cause. This guy was a loud mouthed jaggoff on 20/20, and he's still the same stroke, just now on Fox. He's a first class asshat.

The statue will serve many purposes. For those who are able bodied, they will feel truly blessed when they see it or make a donation. When the 3 Cole's were on the job, (Densey J. Cole I (now retired) Louise Cole (now on duty disability after 16 years of service) & our son, DENSEY J. COLE II (injured on 27May2009) now on duty disability after 17 years of service. We raised Densey & his sister (a school teacher) that it was always better to give than receive & we always did. I am truly grateful so many others feel the same way. The Police Memorial Foudation is a blessing. Continuous blessings to all of you who truly care. Dad Cole, Mom Cole & Densey

You must be delusional, Cline was the best Supe we have had in my 17 years on this job, bar none. He surrounded himself with people he could depend on and knew they would do a good job, he also had a few dumped on him due to political-religious pressure. Every Supe puts their own people in , nothing new there(unless your J-Fed and have no people)

I am so sick of all the comments about Phil Cline and his salary. Without his name and connections do you honestly think the Memorial would be able to do what it does for our fallen families, etc. Just because you didn't like Cline as a Supt. thats your problem.

The Memorial not only does for the fallen or injured families but for others such as older widows and retirees, etc. Those who complain have no idea how the Memorial is run or how much is given out. They do have a Board that has to be answered to.

For the idiot who said he donated to National. Do you know how much National does for anyone except their own organization? Yes, it's a beautiful Memorial and honors police officers but how often do you get out to Washington? If you are so against the CP Memorial why don't you check out the Policeman's Hall of Fame in Titusville, FL.

The CP Memorial is a wonderful organization and for those who accuse the people who run it to be thieves don't have a clue how a foundation is run or the time/energy and money it takes to keep it running. Corporate sponsorship is a big part of what keeps it going, which means knocking on doors and begging. Money that is donated by the police officer's does not pay any salaries.

To the Phil Cline Hater.
Your right Cline did create the memorial. His idea, his baby also his reputation and the reputation of his (at the time) police department that got the big money donations to build it. Thanks to the real police for building that reputation.
You use the word apparently, that means you don't know but shoot your mouth off anyway. I'll bet you testify in court the same way.
Keep donating to the National Police Memorial, it's a good cause. I hope you took the time and the expense to attend it during police week but I can tell by your comments your not a real policeman, just an empty holster.

The money whether it comes from corporate sponsorships or from individual donations is still the same.

The organization could largely be run by volunteer labor. Cline created it partially for his own benefit.

That doesn't mean it doesn't do some good things.

It's my experience that those who talk about "real policemen" seldom are themselves........."apparently."

Nuff said.

Now once the Foundation publishes it's list of expenses and salaries then we'll know where the money goes.

I consider it shameful that a former Superintendent is taking a salary from the foundation. Of course given the history of the foundation and its rotund founder that's not really surprising. Is it?

What a shame that my fellow police officers keep harping on the same crap about Phil Cline and the Police Memorial. When those of you who bitch get sick, injured or killed, guess who will be at your front door with a check, no strings attached? The Chicago Police Memorial Foundation. Can't you put you conspiracy theories and bullshit aside to see that this helps all of us. It's a great cause and I'm proud to have contributions taken out of my paycheck and I'm proud of the people that work there on our behalf.
