Are You Voting?

Here is an astute observation in our comment section:
  • Just as the gangs are no longer afraid of police power, neither are the judges in Crook County who are elected and stand for retention every six years. The judges are far more concerned about being criticized in the media and that criticism being taken up by the braying jackass reverends than by being criticized in police circles.

There was a time when the reverse was true and the judges genuinely feared that the police, 13 thousand strong and their families, voting as a bloc could end their careers if they were targeted for a "No" retention vote. However, the police voting bloc due to either apathy or lack of focus is no longer really a bloc and has lost its power to create consequences for bad judges.

On the other hand due to the media's constant onslaught against the police which is taken up and amplified by the race baiting reverends, the judges are far more concerned about minority voters who religiously vote as a bloc rather than any voting backlash from the police.
And that's why you'll most likely never see a Republican winning anything of significance in Chicago.

I've said it before on this blog. I will say it again and again and again. The CPD gets and A++++ for bitching and moaning about anything and everything. The CPD gets a big fat F for our voting record.

SCC, I used to think nobody voted. The years have gone by and I have more wisdom and knowledge of this city and the people on the CPD. I think quite a few of the CPD are voting. 50% or more of those voting are voting Democrat. Think of how many spots there are on this job. Those spots don't come for free. They come from voting Democrat. The CPD reaps what is sews!!!!!

The CPD is not part of the solution. The CPD are part of the problem!!!!!!!! Some will not like this but to BAD!!! No matter how the Northwest side of the city votes it can't overcome how the 3rd, 4th, 5th, 6th, and the majority of the 22nd police districts vote. I'm talking about the police officers who live in those districts. Those are locks for towing the Dummycrat line. Should I ever meet a black police officer who isn't a democrat I will die on the spot of shock! Thats just the way it is.

Not a cop, but I do vote. Sorry, but on national issues I vote Democratic. Last couple of times, however, I have, in sheer frustration, voted "no" on retention of ALL judges on the ballot. WDF are these people DOING?

BTW, today (in response to a comment elsewhere on this blog) I instituted my new police policy. When I see an officer (and heck, I have extended it to firefighters as well), I say good morning, wave, nod, something.

WHen I am on the CTA or walking home at night, I LOVE seeing a cop on the sidewalk or in a car. You have made a commitment to handle crap that I will run away from (and protect the likes of me!) and for that alone you get props from me.

Hopefully this small gesture will help reassure an officer here or there that it's not just you vs the scum, and that lots of people respect what you do. We are out there too, numerous and getting very frustrated about what is happening to our city.

The easist way to respond to our judges is to vote "NO" on the retention ballot for all of them. That way they get the message.

The judges at the Federal level are another story. They have allowed the rules of evidence to be skewed in favor of the trial lawyers. That is why police officers get screwed when Loevy and Taylor file lawsuits. They have made it impossible for us to defend ourselves and the judges do not care as they have positions for life.

Turn-out to vote? Really? We cant even get people to turn out for the funeral of one of our fallen brothers. In addition to bosses who only care about their own careers, leadership who doesn't have a clue, we have officers who only care about themselves and "whats in it for them." You would never get the majority of this department to get off their asses and do anything as a collective unit unless you offered it to them at time and a half. Us blueshirts have helped create the problems we are facing and instead of standing together to fix them, the majority would rather just ride around and blame the bosses, blame the FOP and blame the reverends/Obama/Daley/etc. Other than that they would rather not do ANYTHING! I will vote! I speak my mind at the FOP meetings monthly and attend any event that seems to bolster our voice as CPD-more people need to do the same! We need to stand 8,000-10,000 strong(whatever the # may be) -- only then will we be taken seriously!

Very good food for thought you posted, SCC!

You know, folks - it doesn't take all that many votes to un-retain a judge. I don't recall the exact numbers, and it's been years since anyone got un-retained.

But I bet a well organized campaign through this blog, the FOP and other police circles could accomplish a lot. Even if it doesn't actually un-retain a judge, it could put a major scare into 'em. And one un-retention, that'd be like Armageddon to the judiciary.

That is exactly why the police will continue to get shit on.

Until we begin to take this seriously and show the politicians that we are a force to be reckon with we will always be a laughing stock.

Any police officer who is not registered to vote should be ashamed of themselves.

Any police officer who does not make sure that they go and vote as well as get their family to vote is nothing more then a self centered fool.

NOT true, SCC. The reason why we have yet to see a Repub winning anything of significance here in Shitcago is that, by and large, the Repubs that run for anything here are either 'democrats in disguise', planted by the Machine to increase the liklihood of a Machine win, or they are even bigger SHCMUCKS than the democrats themselves
(like Epton, who had a long history of serious mental issues, which never came out until he lost the election for Mayor). If a quality Repub candidate were to run for an elected office in Shitcago or Crook County, I think the chance of success would be great. Imagine Hoffman running as a repub for Governor...or even Preckwinkle running as a Repub for Mayor. Both would be a huge threat to the status quo machine voting blocks here.

Register to vote. Go to the polls. Vote the incumbent liberals out of office.

As for shortshanks, I know there has been no viable candidates running against him for who we can vote. Voting for one of them COULD be a big mistake. However, re-electing the midget WILL BE a mistake.

I work in 025 1st watch. We have a new captain and it's nice to see some white shirt actually care about us. We have two man cars because he is not afraid of downing a car, or two or even three down cars. It's better to have two man cars on 1st watch anyways. It's nice to see a white shirt take some initiative and down cars instead of putting them with a one man unit in it.

Also, he is bringing in six bodies from the bloated third watch. Third watch can spare the bodies and it's nice to see some extra help.

Too many of us bitch and moan about white shirts, J-Fled, etc... but when someone does something right, we don't say anything.

As a result, it is now a felony to make bogus 9-1-1 calls. How many felony approvals for false 9-1-1 calls do you think our joke of a states attorneys office will levy? Id say some where between none and zero! Amazing how our corrupt pols can skirt the laws day in and day out! This is about officer safety so I think the union needs to put some pressure on Anita and see that this gets enforced! Check out the link.

Decades ago, int 015 a female Chicago Police officer named Cathy Touhy was severely beaten by a drug crazed subject while she was making a traffic stop. The judge dismissed the case because the fix was in and the case is documented in the book by a former Outfit attorney turned Federal Govt. witness. She retired some years ago at the rank of Capt. At that time the FOP organized a campaign including buttons to deny that judge re-election and the campagin was a success, the judge lost his position on the bench. However that was before the FOP was in bed with City Hall. The judge was named Pasarella as I recall and the scandal was part of Operation Greylord. The members and families of CPD members were able to launch a sitting Cook County judge. And that was long before you had to have college to get on the job. Why can't we do it now?

Easy kid. Pay your dues like we all have. This is the problem amongst the new generation of police officers. ENTITLEMENT! Everyone thinks they are entitled to this and entitled to that. You have to earn it.

Go be aggressive on 1st watch, there is lots of police work to do. Pontecore is one of the better bosses out there, he will look out for you. Saladino is great Sgt too.

No reason to be bitter this early in your career. Midnights isn't the best shift in the world but make it work. You came on this job knowing you could have to work those hours. In do time, you will get back to 3rd watch.

You want to vote for Quinn because Brady is anti-union and against public pensions? Look at your contract - what has FOP done for you? Pension...how much is in it after DaMayo's nephew steals all the money from it? If you are already working and have a pension, the state constitution says you have it. Brady can't take it away, he can only deal with future hires. Future hires???right! If we had a union that actually worked, we could come up with something that would work for us all, but everyone should also have a 401K anyway. Just once we need to get rid of Dems across the board. Seems the only good one is Lisa, but maybe she just hides her corruption better than most. Brady is our only real chance for respect statewide and a Repub in Chicago is our only chance of rebuilding the CPD and attempting to make things better for ALL, blue and white shirts. Only the incompetant would want to continue the status quo in order to hide their idiocy.

Remember, the democratic party is not the party of old. It is the Socialist Party, folks, lead by the socialist in the White House, and everyone marches in lockstep with obama. obama's policies are carried out by his minions. When you say socialist, think of life in Cuba, Venezuela, China, North Korea...do you get the picture?
obama is continuing to destroy the Constitution and our freedoms of life, liberty, pursuit of happiness, FREEDOM to be and to choose. obama is a rogue president who disregards the Constititution and creates his own laws in his thirst for power and the opportunity to turn this country into another third-rate socialist country. Is this the life you wish for yourself and your loved ones?

Vote for a conservative OR a republican whose voting record reflects his/her policies that are consistant with someone who values and will uphold and defend the Constitution.

Socialists/democrats and republicans are NOT alike. Do your research and caste your vote for a candidate who reflects your values and has a record that reflects the same.

Whine, moan and continue to vote democrat, OR do something about the destruction of this city by the dictatorship at City Hall. Vote, make sure everyone you know votes and has transportation to the polls, get the word out about good candidates and vote conservative.

Does the FOP (or anyone related to the police) publish a list of 'bad' judges for the public? I'm not a cop but I'd like to see names of who you guys think don't deserve their jobs.

7/27/2010 11:36:00 AM

I've been trying to get the "vote no on all judges" thing going for years. For all you citizens, just say no on all judge retentions unless you personally know they're a good judge. The Police Officers will make a point of voting to retain the judges that do well for the citizens and we can vote yes on the good ones. Police and Fire will vote for the judges and will tell family and friends and, of course, this blog.

Would you really vote for a judge you know nothing about? Let us get rid of the judges that side with cop killers, crooked attorneys, gang bangers and any that are soft on crime. We know the ones that are in bed with the crime family that gives your tax dollars to the connected lawyers and officials. Time vote your tax dollars safe.

Oh wow. You wrote in all caps. That makes you special. Listen here "old school" bitch. I have a lot of arrests than most senior officers on 3rd watch. I work my fucking ass off. And then I am going to be rewarded by being launched to 1st watch? That is fine. Because my activity will decline dramatically.

After all there is not crime on the 1st watch. This is a great example of what is working in a beat car. maybe they could do you a favor and move you to a south side district then cry. STFU and be glad you have a job and work a good district.

We have to VOTE!

We also have to be SELECTIVE on how we vote for judges. If they think we are going to vote NO on retention on any and all judges, why should they do anything to curry our favor. We need to know who the good judges are and publish here on SCC and carry that list into the polls.

Stay safe, see you on election
day.

Most drug cases are FNPC in court. Been there listening to some good catches and no matter the facts, judge throws them out. Dope arrests are a dime a dozen! Br 48 Ryan throws dope cases out but is good with all the other felonies in court. Does that make him a bad judge? Absolutely Not! Dope doesn't matter peeps. Personal choice of the ones that are using. Not a violent crime.

Doesn't the FOP put out a who to vote for and who not to vote for in the monthly newsletter? I know they do it for political candidates, I'm not sure about judges.

We should keep a better watch on the judges or just out them here on the blog when a judge continuously makes poor judicial decisions....and that's about 75% of them in crook county. PO's and dets should let everyone know why the streets are so dangerous because a BIG part of the problem is that the judges let too many bad guys go that end up killing a civilian or cop.

1st watch can be a good gig if you give it a chance--- sucks a little if you are single but you get to do a lot of things during the day when everyone else is at work.... if they paid a premium for 1st watch guys a bunch would be working it for the extra cash....

I will vote and if Cracker Jack Ass Daley decides to run, he will get a NO-RETENTION vote from me for sure. That P.O.S. Has got to go!! I let the citizens of this city know that he is to blame for the current situation. I am very proud to say that a majority of them feel the same way.

you didnt mind when you were 20% management on afternoons. you were taken care of then. you bypassed midnights while others were stuck because they didn't phone a friend. sometimes you shit on people, and other times you get shit on. just call your clout and you'll be back on afternoons doing the same old bs you were doing.

I never wish ill of a fellow officer but please be careful of what you wish. I am a former democrap voter.
P.S. I'm a southside resident also and EVERYONE in my household is a registered voter. But remember this my friend, both partys inthis state (ILL) have given voters the fickle finger of fate (sorry laugh in for using your lines).
Gotta run, masters, masters, masters!

The FOP asks every election for input from the membership on who to vote to retain or not to retain.

Every election.

And after every election there are always officers who complain "the FOP never asks me anything" or "why doesn't the damn FOP take a poll"

Well, they DO and HAVE for every election in my 25 years on.

Now, as in elections since the Internet got popular, the FOP has a judges retention survey going.

Go to the FOP web site, click on Current Updates page and look at the bottom at the FOP Retention survey link and take the damn survey.

Don't say you didn't know or no one told you. Before the Internet the FOP asked in the newsletter for input but of course few people bothered to send i their opinions.

Remember, FOP elections next year. Once again about 65% of mailed out ballots will never get returned and the bitching will begin about the election.

What I still don't understand is why a judge only needs to get a 60% approval rating at the polls to keep his/her position.

I mean, it's a passing grade, but just barely. It's like getting a D if you were still in school.

7/27/2010 06:52:00 PM

60% was passing? WTF school did you go to

Go to the FOP website. They've got a place for you to do just this.

This is the direct link:

Otherwise from the main page click on "Current Updates" and scroll down to "Judges Up for Retention."

Let's let it go. You get dumped, you get dumped. Make the best of it.

So what... Extra gym time, a little bit of a change of pace.

Who cares? Different hours same job.

Make the best of what comes your way...

If you made 3rd mgmt last year, sweat these next few months out and you'll be back at watch pick time. 3rd watch lt is not out to screw anybody.
