Just as the gangs are no longer afraid of police power, neither are the judges in Crook County who are elected and stand for retention every six years. The judges are far more concerned about being criticized in the media and that criticism being taken up by the braying jackass reverends than by being criticized in police circles. There was a time when the reverse was true and the judges genuinely feared that the police, 13 thousand strong and their families, voting as a bloc could end their careers if they were targeted for a "No" retention vote. However, the police voting bloc due to either apathy or lack of focus is no longer really a bloc and has lost its power to create consequences for bad judges.
On the other hand due to the media's constant onslaught against the police which is taken up and amplified by the race baiting reverends, the judges are far more concerned about minority voters who religiously vote as a bloc rather than any voting backlash from the police.

Showed this to my dad, a retired downstate cop. His reply? "The judges don't care, none of them around here were ever cops." Besides, the media won't pick up on this because if they ever wrote about it, they'd be out of the judges' close circle of friends. No more "off the record" leaks or other information.
Good cartoon. What seems to be missing from so many places in our justice system? Justice.

Would I love to see this one on the ballot as a referendum. The Dems and the Daley/Burke/Madigan Crime Family would piss all over themselves if they thought the public would actually be able to SEE what a joke the Cook County Dems have created in our courtrooms.
This would be one of the best ways to expose the corruption that I can think of. They'd never let it happen, but it would be GREAT to see all the politicians circle the wagons to keep this cesspool of a court system from seeing the light of day!!!

I have renounced my membership from the democratic party. Daley Stroger and the Cook County Democratic machine has forced me to hate the democratic party. I have disavowed them.
I consider myself a moderate independent. I will be writing in David Hoffman for mayor if the republicans and the NRA don't have the brains and balls to slate a candidate in November.
To hell with Daley, Stroger, most of the aldermen, all of the reverneds, and the Cook County Democratic machine.
Wow! Cameras in the courtroom would really shake things up here. The public would see the great hours the judges and states' attorneys really work, why the cases are continued endlessly and why the criminals run free. The politicos in this state have insulated themselves really well. I would love to see the day when the cook county states attorney or the Illinois Attorney General starts to go after corrupt politicians, i.e. cook county board members, chicago alderman, township presidents , the leaders of the state senate or house for selling college scholerships. That would be great, but you know it will never happen.I would also love to see a chicago alderman arrested in the burbs for carrying a concealed handgun that would test their contention they are peace officers and can carry concealed. Oh well! When pigs fly and when it snows in hell.

A few topics ago there was a section about the Prisoner Review Board releasing some convicted cop killers. WELL heres the chance to take an active part.
The Prisoner Review Board is alloted 15 members. There is presently one opening. Jennifer Bishop Jenkins is in the running and it looked good until the John Howard foundation got wind. They are putting pressure on the governor to put the nix on her. For your information that group loves KILLERS. They never meet a killer they didn't drool over.
Jennifer is a victim of a violent crime and founded illnoisvictims.org. She is pro police. We need a person like her on the board.

On July 16, Philadelphia Police Officer Kevin Livewell was shot in the leg when he and his partner approached a van that had been involved in a previous shooting. The occupants of the van were in possesion of high powered assault rifles, and Officer Livewell and his partner were outgunned.
Anel Cuenas, the POS that shot P/O Livewell, has 22 prior convictions since 1998. 6 of those charges were firearm related, one of those was an agg assault from back in February of this year. There was one other assault with a gun and 2 armed robberies. He has 9 prior felonies in total. So the question is WHY OH WHY was this POS on the street?

I commented on BLOG 501 under the Jun 29 entry about the physical fitness incentive award. He actually brags that 21 exempt members passed the test. 21. There's 25 district commanders alone. Then all the commanders of all the specialized units and all of the 35th st units and then all the dept. chiefs and on up the line. 21 took and passed the test. Nice leading by example. I challenged him to make passing the test a condition of promotion to the exempt ranks. Surprise, never published. So, as long as I'm on the subject, I know J=fled is going to claim he passed it. I'd like to see that. Were there any witnesses other than his suckholes? I've seen the man and he couldn't do 10 situps if his life depended on it (though, we know he can "run").

I'm glad you think THAT will make a difference. Lest I remind you that we've had republican and democratic Governors here who have gone to prison.
Don't automatically assume that either side is going to play you fair. Does anyone remember when our own former Supt. Jim O'Grady won election as Cook County Sheriff as a REPUBLICAN? Do you all remember all the corruption that came out of that office when he took over? ALL politicians have to be watched. They're all the same when we, the voters, don't do our job and hold them ACCOUNTABLE.

He did pass the test and was watched by numerous officers. There are about 90 exempt members. About 23% approx figure. He is proud of that success rate? UFB! How manay actually took the test? There are no standards for exempts except clout and clout.
