A Blog Supporting the Police?
Seriously. Someone sent us a link and everything:
- I went on the blog today to read about the gang fight between the Vice Lords and the Black P Stones that occurred at the intersection of Wilson and Broadway at 4pm on Thursday, July 22, and to my surprise it wasn't mentioned.
Two Vice Lords were arrested, one was tased. Both are convicted felons. A few "concerned citizens" actually went to the 023 police station to complain that police used unnecessary force (tasing) on the young poor black kid (a convicted felon who detectives believe did a shooting two months ago on Magnolia against the Black P Stones).
The comment section is alive with praise for the police and accolades for the one who tasered the resistor. It's kind of refreshing to see some citizen support for the CPD.

Thanks for the kind words, SCC. I'm one of the admins of Uptown Update and we appreciate the hard-working cops in the 20th and 23rd Districts.
What we don't appreciate is one of our aldermen, Helen Shiller, saying "Crime is not my issue." (It is, however, the issue of her son, Brendan, a lawyer who makes his living by suing police officers, including those who work in his mother's ward.) Our community is under siege from the gangs, and Ald. Shiller's response? She just donated money from her campaign fund to help pay for the funeral of a notorious local gangbanger.
You're the only thing standing between the bad guys and us, and the overwhelming majority of our readers realize that and stand behind you. Thanks, coppers!
Wow, isn't it amazing how their opinions of the the Police change when the shit is happening in their neighborhood? I wonder if they can make the connection to what they saw and what Police see everyday in certain areas. Police do their job, "citizens" complain about abuse, liberals & yuppies believe the BS and accuse the police of being racist/abusive/bullies/civil rights violators/etc.
If only every neighborhood could just get a little taste of the hood so they know what is in their future if they don't support the police. Just a little taste.

As cool a place as it is, Uptown has a pretty bad element there. The productive, upstanding people in Uptown are going to support the police, just like the good people everywhere do.
Who cares what a bunch of assholes from Winnetka think, or the reverends- who make their Cadillac payments by puppeteering various communities with victimology snake-oil- prattle when the cameras are rolling.
The support expressed in that uptown blog should come as no shock to SCC, other coppers or SCC readers. You just caught a glimpse of the formerly silent majority who is starting to get very un-silent.
Do people support the police?
The answer is yes. Don't let a few loudmouths make you think otherwise.

The actual "citizens" who live in Uptown 023 are getting pissed off with the non stop gang fights occuring. Yes, we are being thanked daily by people for doing our job now by some. It wasn't like that before. You can tell they know we are understaffed, outmanned and without support from the city.
I read the link to the UU. It's about time people start appreciating the police. Maybe if they cooperated more they could help the police keep their neighborhood safer.

I live just outside of Uptown in Andersonville, and Uptown Update is a pretty good blog with decent comments. These aren't all the same lake front liberals we've grown to disdain in the past. Many bought into Uptown during the real estate boom and sunk a lot of money into rehabbing old formerly grand housing stock and are now desperate to make their streets livable and crime free. Most are sincere about helping to improve the community.
Most of them are also united in their hatred for Helen Shiller, who I fully expect will FINALLY be turned out of the Alderman's seat. A Police Officer, Michael Carroll, is in the hunt to defeat her. If you live in the 46th Ward, make sure you are registered to vote. There is a link on Uptown Update to assist you with that.

Let them fight until they tire themselves out or shoot each other! If you taser them you are wrong, if you fight with them you are wrong, and if you arrest them you have no probable cause and it will get thrown out.
This confuses me. We live in old Town. For the past twenty years I have watched as my neighborhood changed dramatically thanks to the hard work and bravery of our police. I can now walk my dog in the middle of the night, and my teenage daughter walks to meet friends. My neighbors and I can name almost all the officer's at our local station. We pray for their safety every day, and we are grateful for their presence.
I'm in shock. Seriously. I thought everyone was out to get us but this is encouraging. When we the police take action, it's not very pretty and it tends to offend people. We mean not to offend anyone but only to restore order and make the streets peaceful again and this is how it's done. Thank you for the support, you really don't know how much it means to us.
There are many aldermens sons involved in suits against the city/police.
It's sort of a cottage industry around here.

I would like to see the Police support the Police. Nothing would be more gratifying than to see a major turnout by CPD in the next election and then watch and observe the changes it creates.
Please register yourself and your family to vote and then follow through. Last several years I have utilized early voting. It's so easy, and it would make such a big difference in your lives. CPD, as a voting block, would finally have some political muscle. It does make a difference.

And just to show you how f*cked up the 46th ward is, my best friend (whom I love dearly, except for this one fault), thinks shiller is the greatest. Of course he lives on the very southeast end of the ward and doesn't see all of this bullshit.
the need to register to vote is key to getting rid of her...she has been in place for twenty some years because there are people registered in her ward who dont live anywhere except a place under the tracks or a box in the alley..i wish i could help whoever is running against her...worked against her twenty years ago..recommend a thourough canvas of that wards voters list to eliminate the bs and getting people who can register voters door to door at the same time..otherwise its futile...good luck...
please be adviced that many people in the 023rd district are very supportive of the police. there are a few "power hungry" individuals/organizations, who likes to put the police down, but for the most part, they are very supportive of police effort. also, when needed in court, they will always be there to testify, and most are well educated and meke excellent witnesses/victims.
latetly, the southern part of the district has been innundated with "hoodlums" from other "hard-core" parts of the city, and many have been lured into the area by two facilities: B.Y.C. (Broadway Youth Center-3171 N Broadway- right above Chipotle), and The Center on Halste(Halsted/Waveland).
BOTH FACILITIES RECEIVE LARGE FEDERAL GRANTS TO SERVE "TRANSIENT YOUTH--HOMELESS, RUNAWAYS, ETC.". many of these youths are or were hardcore gangbangers in other parts of the city. now they are wondering and area with very little competition, and they are finding it very easy to commit crimes against "unawared citizens".
make no mistake, many of these youth were "HARDCORE", and they can pose tremendous threat to officer safety, as they go around terorizing the hardworking people who live in the community. Also, with no competition, some of the homeless youth, drag-queens, and a few wise gangbangers are beginning to realize the potential for narcotic sales on Halsted, Clark, Broadway, Addison, Waveland, Sheffield. it is only a matter of time (very short), before we start getting people shot or stabbed in the area. just mark my words, and use caution...just because you are not in the ghetto doesn't mean that the ghetto doesn't come up to you!!!
p.s. unlike what most people think, that i might be reffering to black youth, there is no race issue. they are black, hispanic from the inner city, and they are whites (usually runaways) from all places. there seems to be a very lucrative market for selling anything...drugs, prostitution, stolen goods. just go and see for yourself any weekend night between 11:00 p.m. and 6:00 a.m.--don't forget to bring a camera!!!!

I wrote the original letter to Uptown Update reguarding the gang fight. I have worked in Uptown for the past 8 years and I have seen the change to a police friendly enviornment. It may be directly related to the increased violence in Uptown, which is due to the increased amount of welfare breeders Hellen Shithead brought into the neighborhood.
When I first came to Uptown we had 1 maybe 2 shootings a year... now we have 4-5 a month. I know this doesn't compare to the West side but it is a noticable difference to Uptonians and the police in 23 and 20. The common denominator is King Richard II tearing down the projects and Hellen Shithead inviting the displaced welfare breeders into Uptown with open arms (and a voter regigistration card).
Today at work 3 Uptonians waved to me in the squad car and told me "thank you, be safe". WOW! THAT MADE ME FEEL GREAT!

The medical is there for a reason, not just for when you feel like shit, but also so that you don't infect an entire roll-call with your illness. Also, if you have never spent a day on IOD,...good for you, you are really earning your paycheck. You should be ashamed of yourself. From all that I've seen and heard over the years, it appears that all the negative connotations on your behalf are self-inflicted.
You should be humbled and grateful that you made it this far instead of your continued, 'all-about-me' attitude.
For example, your shameless and self-centered (inside organization) nomination for Chicago's Police Officer of the Year was a slap in the face to every working, injured and line of duty death member ever to wear the uniform.
I won't go into any moral or department issues you survived as this is not the proper forum.
You know what they are. Learn from them and humble yourself.
You see, you 'could' use that merit/suit position to make a difference with what's wrong with this present department on behalf of Chicago's Finest.
