Elote Carts to O'Hare, Midway

We sense a Connected Company being born right at this very moment in time, and an aldercreature is meeting with a Daley nephew right now!
  • Liquor could be sold from pushcarts at the city's two major airports under a measure proposed today by Mayor Richard Daley.

The goal is to bring in more money for the city, said Eve Rodriguez, a spokeswoman for the city Aviation Department.

The plan is to create a new type of liquor license allowing "the sale of alcoholic liquor from pushcarts within authorized areas at O'Hare and Midway," according to the ordinance. The beer and liquor pushcarts would be located beyond the security checkpoints at passenger terminals.
One could hope that this was all an elaborate scheme by the feebs to get a feel for how Chicago politics and rigged bidding work, but it's probably just what Shortshanks calls "another day at the office."

OK lets see, Da Mayor, I believe driven by his tea toddling wife, has pushed the street corner tavern to loose its license ever since the inception of CAPS, Yes! do you remember the genesis of CAPS when it was Block by Block? I do, 007 was a pilot CAPS district back in 1993 ish. The thought process/propaganda line was that BARS ATTRACT CRIME AND DISORDER, find any way to take mom-n-pop's neighborhood liquor license. Now why is he trying to push liquor in airports when he had revenue in neighborhoods for years that he successfully eliminated? Desperate short sighted Mo_fo!!

BRILLIANT!!!

This is part of shortshanks plan to save Chicago! It's a deceivingly devilish idea, where we intoxicate visitors to our fine city, right at their point of arrival, and keep them sloshed until they leave, thereby keeping them from remembering ANYTHING that happens to them while they are here.

WHAT A CONCEPT!

After tourists and conventioneers get fleeced into giving up their entire bankroll in order to pay the crazy taxes and fees and parking meter boxes etc, and get robbed AGAIN by our fine criminal street-level stick-up men, they are too drunk to remember how it all happened! When they all get back to their homes in REAL America, all they'll remember is how much fun they had here, dancing drunk at the airports and figuring they must have lost their wallets while they were here.

Like I said, BRILLIANT!!!!

$6/$7 per beer. Sure, the vendors make some profit; the distributors, however, sell to the vendors for $150/case. Let's see who gets THAT gift.

Sounds like the mayor wants to encourage Drinking and swimming or boating on the lake. And Drinking and flying in the air.

He's a safety man you know. Although he might put out an ordinance that says only one drink per person.

I guess Daley would have everyone at the airports drunk, how much dumber can this guy get. Does son Patrick and Vaneko have a liquor business at O'hare?

As a retired PO from O'Hare airport.
I spent many hours handing "disturbances " at the airport bars, and yeah, had to lock up lots of tourist types.
The airport has tons of bars, including two carts in terminal#5.
The last thing they need, especially with no police left to handle the calls, is add more booze to the unruly crowds. As it is now, many airine employees have to hide to get away from threats and violence because there are no police.
Strangly, many POs and other city employees have made suggestions over the years on how to imrpove the airport AND make more money for the city, thay have all been ignored.

Daley has destroyed and eliminated all neighborhood (corner) taverns in most of Chicago.

These were places where men and womwn could walk to, visit neighbors , and eat at after work or during their off times. It created a safe and friendly place for most neighborhoods. No parking, driving, affordable, ....people who are now in their 60's probably remember having their orange pops and cheetos with their fathers, or playing on the long shuffleboards when they were kids.

A quote in todays trib attributed to the mayor shortshanks goes as follows: "Many a times, people enjoy to have a drink. (one or more Georges?) Is there anything wrong with that?" RJD 1 Jul 2010

That's exactly what I wondered all these years while he destroyed the corner taps.

Now he wasts carts? $$$$$$$$$$

What happens to places already there like "Riley's Daughter" who pay and have been paying big bucks and kick backs to the mayor to have a licensed tavern in the airport?

just asking

OT: Hey SCC...I got a letter yesterday from Fr. Nangle sking for a donation. That of course didnt bother me one bit. What did was the reason behind it. It would seem that whichever business/company that was accountable for a substantial contribution has pulled out. I could understand if the reasoning was economy, bad times etc etc...but what Fr Nangle explained was that the board of directors changed and now has a different "religious makeup" and therefore has slashed the conribution! ARE YOU FUCKING KIDDING ME? Fr Nangle and the CPD chaplains ministry helps EVERYONE! Catholic, Lutheran, Protestant, Muslim EVERYONE! So the fact that this organization pulled the contribution because the face of the organization is a 60+ year old Catholic Priest is BS! Im curious if anyone knows who that organization is. So we could collectively reach out to them and perhaps persuade them to reinstate the donation that makes the ministry such a wonderful charity. And if not, atleast so we all know where NOT to patronize. I think we all know how wonderful the CPD chaplains ministry is. Im not going to repeat the letter, but I urge anyone who gets one to toss a $20 (or more) in the envelope and send it back. Thanks, SCC.

What's a liqour license fee these days, $1000. - $1500 - $2000 a yr?? How many pushcarts will it take to make a cool couple million? One every 100ft? Tack on another $400 & sell tobacco, how about a happy ending at the Back Rub Hub in Terminal 3 ? If Shanks would stop giving away our tax $ on BS programs & consultants, this city be in better financial shape. But as The Chicago Way goes, those airport restaurants had better "belly up" and buy those pushcart licenses or get out of town. Wasn't that Blago's Tollway Plaza scheme? Airport WalMart coming soon.

" The nationwide 10 percent tax on tanning salons began today (Thursday) to help pay for President Obama’s health care overhaul package passed by Congress earlier this year. "

Oh yeah it's a fair tax. It's not that we're singling any one particular group of folks out you understand, we're just taxing whitey. Of course it could mean alot of salons will go out of business in Englewood & Pilsen too, because those people are suffering from the already bad economy.

$10.00 buck for a beer.....$8.00 goes to city taxes. They figure they've hijacked the poor city taxpayer, time to steal from the tourists now.

I agree with the previous thread...there's already a lot of booze at O'hare...people get on the planes drunk and they come off drunk....there's not enough police to handle all the disturbances the booze hounds deploy. What are they thinking?

"The beer and liquor pushcarts would be located beyond the security checkpoints at passenger terminals."

This is really scummy, like government running gambling operations.

Don't worry, it'll pay for itself when tanked-up, jet-lagged travelers cause disturbances aboard aircraft that have to be diverted to other cities, the passenger removed by the Feds, etc.

...or could it be that Chicago soon won't have any more conventioners to worry about?

Richard and Margaret Daley, you are stinking hypocrites.

The dead of St. Johannes will rise up to haunt you for all eternity.
